this is not to say joe torre sucks or will be out after this year...this is my simple opinion that the next manager of the yankees will be don mattingly...i respect torre for all he has done...i feel he will be out shortly and i look forward to seeing what mattingly can do for the yankees in the future...who does anyone else have...

There seems to constantly be continual and ???dire??? pressure from the Yankees organization to can Torre, but every single year he comes back and is in charge of the Yankees for their next run. His team is struggling now, but it has struggled in the past as well there is hardly actual proof that Torre is going to get canned at any point this season or next. People can say that George is anxious to make any change needed to assist his ball club, but in actuality it appears George understands that players need consistency at manager.
Moreover even if Torre does go, what indication do you have that Mattingly would be best to take over for him? With a roster as old as the current one in New York, Steinbrenner will need a proven manager with experience to take over in this roll. The speculation last year was over Lou Piniella. Expect someone similar to him to take over this team if George for some reason does decide to move on.

i never said i thought torre would be canned. i also never said i thought mattingly was the best option. i think torre wont be fired and i think girardi is the best option. i merely stated that i believe mattingly will be the next manager whenever that time comes. and the reasoning behind that is bc he has gained a load of respect from torre, cashman and steinbrenner. he has been promoted to bench coach which is basically asst head coach in baseball. and is more than likely the next in line for the managing postion. take time to read my argument. then youll see what im saying...

You have utterly changed your tune from one argument to the next. Post one: ???...i feel he will be out shortly and i look forward to seeing what mattingly can do for the yankees in the future...???. Post two: ???i never said i thought torre would be canned. i also never said i thought mattingly was the best option. i think torre wont be fired and i think girardi is the best option. i merely stated that i believe mattingly will be the next manager whenever that time comes???
You stated none of that in your original opening. Way to contradict yourself. Sure Mattingly has gained respect from the organization, but that alone does not make him the next head coach of the team. The Yankees organization needs experience and someone who has been with a team and dealt with all the adversity of being a head coach before. Mattingly is not ready to take over the Yankee ship and turn around their current situation.
He may have a spot on the bench, but coordinators rarely take over for departed head coaches in football, while it may be a bit more commonplace in baseball, it is still the exception.
Please take the time to read your own argument before posting.

ok just bc i said torre will be out shortly does not mean i think he'll be out this year. i also said in my opening "this is not to say joe torre sucks or will be out after this year." so dont half quote me. and i never said either way what i felt about mattingly other than i look forward to seeing what he can do when he becomes manager. you can't half quote someone and expect to show contradiction.

So you think Torre will be out soon, but not after this year? You also do not believe he should be gone, but are looking forward to Mattingly. However, you think Girardi is the best man for the job? Uh...gotcha.
Listen, Mattingly is a young and unseasoned baseball coach, he has been under Torre's wing for quite some time, but he is not prepared to take over a franchise and call the shots in a veteran locker room that has no time for him to learn on the fly. The window is closing in New York, now is not the time for Mattingly.

Torre should be allowed to leave on his own terms. Look at what he has done for that organization. Not sure Mattingly will step in and try to fill the shoes that Joe leaves, but he's as good as anyone.

joe will somewhat leave on his own terms...there will come a season soon where he will gracefully bow out...and possibly go somewhere else...but he doesnt have more than 1 or 2 seasons left with the yankees...and its unfortunate..

I agree. I think Don would be a good choice. I also think he would go out and bring in Bernie Williams to be the hitting coach and Tino Martinez to be the next bench manager.
