The Big Ten is soft and sooooo slow. Even the middle of the pack teams in the SEC would at least make a decent game with the "class" of the Big Ten, Ohio State. You can't coach speed, and obviously, you can't catch it either.

ok well ill say it now im a huge gators fan and I love the SEC.I also believe the SEC overal is much better than the Big 10.However to say that no team could win 8 games is crazy.Ohio State would win probably 9-10 games.You cant say Ohio State couldnt beat Vandy,Kentucky,Arkansas,bama or Tenn.They may not be able to take the teams like LSU,Florida,or Gorgia on a consistant basis but come on.

I guess this will be one that last a week because of forfeited turns
mc1281 said 01/09, 09:52 PM
Sorry for missing my turn.
If you give Ohio State the LSU schedule from 2007 here is what you would get...
@Mississippi State W 1-0
VA Tech L 1-1
MTSU W 2-1
South Carolina W 3-1 (I'll give OSU a win even though USC was lights out early in the season)
@Tulane W 4-1
Florida L 4-2 (Still haven't stopped Tebow)
@Kentucky L 4-3 (Kentucky was a tough out every week and was playing amazing at this time)
Auburn L 4-4 (Maybe OSU pulls this one out because they pressure the almighty B. Cox, but I still think AU's defense gives OSU fits)
@Alabama W 5-4 (A toss up but I think OSU would probably win)
Louisiana Tech W 6-4
Ole Miss W 7-4
Arkansas W 8-4 (I think McFadden might still be running after seeing that OSU defense chasing LSU players, but I will give OSU a win here)
Tennessee L 8-5 (No way in hell they beat Tenn, who would throw all over them)
So 8 wins, maybe 9 if you give them AU, but that is also in a 13 game season. I'm a huge AU fan, but OSU was in the title game again because they are Ohio State. The situation the last 2 years is eerily similar of OK a few years ago, and what have they done lately? I propose a BCS game just for Ohio St and OK, somebody has to win, dont they?
st*rainman*sssc* said 01/09, 09:57 PM
Ok well I never said they would win 12 or 13 games in the sec and that wasnt your topic.You said that there is no Big ten team that could win 8 games if they played in the Sec and you just made my point even further so I thank you.Also I know LSU beat up on Ohio State but the talent level wasnt much different.If Ohio State actually stopped turning the ball over for 5 mins they might have been in that game.Like I said im A big SEC believer and fan.IM a big Gators fan but like I pointed out and then you so kindly pointed out they are very capable of winning 8 or more games in the sec.

Report Offensive CommentOh, gawd, here we go again. Yes, the SEC can never ever lose a game. They'd win every conference including the NFC and the AFC.. You act like you've never won a game before.

Report Offensive CommentIf Michigan can beat Florida why couldn't Ohio State? If Florida can demolish tennessee -- why couldn't OSU or Michigan. Yes the SEC is the best this year MaF but it goes in cycles. It was just a few years ago the Big 12 Had 4 top 10 teams. Plus even if the best the notion cant win 8 games is nuts

Report Offensive CommentI love, LOVE, LLLOOOOVVVEEE the Buckeyes, and even rooted for Michigan to make the Buckeyes and the Big Ten look good. And everyone around here has been saying, and last year said, o yea, the SEC is so overrated and we're going to come out and win and it won't even be close. For some reason, I go along with what they say. But, to be honest, the Big Ten is THE most overrated conference in the history of college football. There is no way anyone, even OSU, would've gotten passed 8 wins. OSU got lucky that they got in the BCS Championship. It shocked the **** outta me when they got in.

Report Offensive CommentLynch... most of us have said Big 10 is overrated not the SEC. Regardless, teams would still win 8 in SEC.

Report Offensive CommentThis throwdown makes it sound as though:
1. Speed is the only factor in college football. What the Michigan-Florida game showed us -- or should have -- is that there are many ways to play in and win a football game. Speed can be neutralized...
2. The SEC is some mythical quasi-professional conference that is a magnet for the fastest players in the country. The reality is that it is elite programs with big names -- including the Ohio States, the USCs, the Michigans, the Oklahomas, etc. -- which regularly land the fastest, strongest, best recruits. But recruits don't always pan out...
3. Every team in the SEC is two rungs up the quality ladder from even the cream of the crop of the other conferences. The truth is that every conference has its dogs -- a Mississippi or a Vanderbilt, a Stanford or a Washington, a Minnesota or a Northwestern, a Baylor, a Duke, an Iowa State... no conference is perfection from top to bottom, even the exalted SEC...
In the end, the past college football season should have made us realize that the talent gap is shrinking, not growing, and that a big name is not the sole barometer of success. Speed is not the only determining factor between victory and defeat. I might change my vote if you find a way to back this absurdity up, mc, but for now my vote is with rainman...

Report Offensive CommentOhio State embarrassed themselves 2 years in a row against SEC teams. Those games made me sick. and certainly did nothing to prove the Big Ten naysayers wrong. But Michigan, the fourth best Big Ten team, beat Florida. Wisconsin, the third best in the Big Ten, should have beaten Tennessee, which played for the SEC title. I think the SEC is better top to bottom, but the Big Ten has teams that would compete.
Porkins | 01/08/08, 08:18 AM
Report Offensive CommentActually Wisconsin is #4 or 5 after Penn State and Illinois and of course Mich and OSU...
And the Big Ten went 2-1 last year against the SEC. And ask Florida if the Big Ten is slow. Ask LSU too. I don't think speed was the problem. Personal Fouls, and turnovers maybe.
Y2jCrisis | 01/08/08, 08:28 AM
Report Offensive CommentI think Big Ten teams need to reverse their recruiting policies. I can't tell you how many times I've heard Big 10 coaches say "Well, we liked that kid when we started recruiting him, but then we saw him play and he was just too doggone fast. I want that slow chubby kid on the bench!"
Then in tears the recruit begs and pleads to go to Ohio State, to which the coach replies "Sorry, kid. You'll have to go play in the SEC. We don't take kindly to you quick whippersnappers."

out of 11 teams the sec has 4 teams in the record books...that says alot for the sec.... and im not taking sides with mc1281 saying the big ten wouldnt win 8 games in the conference but........the sec has the best overall record therefor the SEC is probably the toughest conference to play in. and those are the hard facts.if you dont believe me do a little research and see for yourself
