Both are great sports enjoyed by huge fan bases and draw tremendous television ratings. They are also very different sports, so calling one "better" than the other is moot. Many fans, such as myself, love both sports.

Certainly some people consider football more "exciting" because of the fast pace and hard hitting inherent to the game. But think back to all of the dramatic moments in Baseball history and you will remember a plethora of "exciting" moments, as well.

Not sure what you mean by "It has so many more things that you have to do and rules." Actually the beauty of both sports is that you can enjoy either simply by admiring the simplicities of each game, or you can get into the intricacies. Both are pretty simply games on their face, both are very complicated games if you care to delve into it. If not, you can still enjoy either one immensely.

Baseball has a much longer tradition than football does. Spring just isn't really spring until the first umpire yells "play ball". It's also more family oriented. Fathers taking their sons (and daughters) out to the ball park on a Saturday afternoon is a long standing tradition in many families. Not so much with football.

Well, I can see you've been thinking long and hard about this subject with such a hard hitting rebuttal. Both sentences of it.

Football is more fan based? And who exactly are all those people they show in the stands at Fenway? Cardboard cutouts? ALL spectator sports are fan dependent.

Run around in a circle? Have you ever even SEEN a baseball game? I ask because I've seen thousands and I've yet to see one played on a circular field.
Quite the opposite, actually. Baseball is a game of angles, not arcs.

There is, of course, a LOT more to baseball than "See ball, hit ball, run in circles" but space doesn't allow for me to explain even the basics of a game you clearly don't understand.

Baseball has a rich history that helped distract this country in times of poverty, depression, and war. It is a game that has been enjoyed by school children and adults alike since the 19th century and has endured good times and bad, scandal and war, yet continues to thrive more than ever here in 2008. Things that don't have mass appeal don't last that long...
