It is time for a total rebuild in Baltimore

One yer removed from a 13-3 record the Ravens are home watching the playoffs after going 5-11.They have already fired there head coach, but I feel it is time for them to rebuild this teams and take there lumps now rather than later. The defense which still showed they can still play well is getting up there in age and on offense they really have nothing. Also we are talking about a team that has alot of strong voices on it and bringing in a new head coach and expect him to win these guys over is just insane.

I'm a Pittsburgh fan so this is going to be hard.
The Baltimorans do not need a total rebuild. They need to make adjustments just like every non-playoff team and even a few playoff teams. The have a good RB, decent WRs, good TE. Their line was beat up this year and should be a little better next year if J. odgon comes back healthy. As far as the QB, well there is your biggest problem. mcnair should now be considered a backup..a good backup. Free agent or draft they must address the QB. No need to melt down the whole offense. I'll address the D in the next Argument.

Alright well ill go over the offense now then.First off like you said they are in desperate need of a franchise qb.Mcnair ws a nice quick fix last year but hes up in age, never healthy and seemed to have lost alot.Boller is no wheres close to a started and Smith who is young I really dont see being the answer.I like Willis being back there at rb and I like Heap but they need a big play receiver and not a bunch of 2nd and 3rd receivers.Mark Clayton and Mason are alright but they are not game changers. As for the O-line.Ogden is 33,Flynn is 33.The other three are young and have alot of promise. So really on offense they need a qb,a big time wide out and I would suggest to get a little younger and healthier on the line.Defense is a whole different story which I will talk about in my last argument.

Every team needs something, every team needs to fill a few spots with great players. if they didn't than they would not have fired their coach and started vacation. Clayton and Mason would be greeted with open arms on many teams. Who doesn't need an offensive lineman?
Chicago, NY Jets, Phili, Carolina, miami all could use a QB. Will they burn the house? All but Miami will NOT. Now the D. Good line. Good LBs...Ray Ray might be a little too old. The 2ndary is good. What else do you need? Better leadership...Come on Ed Reed..the team is yours. Would you really re-build the D?

Defense
Rolle-31,McAlister-30,Pryce-32,Lewis-32,gregg-31.They are all passed there prime. As far as that New England game they had great games but there werent many of those. Also when I say rebuild im not saying you sit here and release every single player on the team, but there are some guys that arent worth keeping.I would honestly only keep Lewis out of those 4 guys I mentioned for leadership and hes still very good. This team had more problems than just injuries and rookies. And no Smith will not be a franchise qb.He just wont be this league isnt the big 10.Hes a pretty good backup though.

Than what is the meaning of "total Rebuild"?????
When someone says re-build they are stating that every player could be moved, sure no team is going to move everyone but they should buy that big house just yet. Face it they don't need a total rebuild. if every team did that than the NFl would be un-watchable. Hey... there's something called a salary cap also. just tearing down a team and trying to rebuild can cost you alot if $ against the cap. the NFL teams are soo close in terms of talent... a few breaks, a few healthy players, the right call, a good block, a return for a TD, a gem in the 4th round of the draft and you might be back on top. But EVERY TEAM NEEDS THAT. unless your Indi or the PATs.

They dont need to rebuild... their biggest problem was QB play but they shouldnt spend a 1st round pick on that. Give Troy Smith a shot he showed signs of being decent this year and with more playtime he will only improve. They were crushed by injuries, Rolle and McAlister proved when they are healthy they can still shut down any set of WR (against the Pats they only gave up 257 pass yards) plus with Reed and Landry they have great people sitting at Safety. So I'm not sure about the whole rebuilding thing they had alot of rookies playing last year i think they will be alot better this year with all the rookies having 1 season under their belts and with alot of their older players being healthy.

they need to find a solution at the QB position. boller and mcnair just arent doing the job. is it time to experiment with Smith already?

Sorry jsar... Correct me if I'm wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers, they're gonna lock me up and throw away the key...

You need a top tier quarterback to win in this league. We've squandered the best defense in football for the last six years due to the ineptitude of that position. Troy Smith's ceiling is David Garrard. Those types of quarterbacks will never beat the Mannings and the Bradys of the world on a consistent basis. People seem to forget how many breaks went the Ravens way during the 2000 season to win the Super Bowl. The team barely won the championship with one of the greatest defenses of all-time. Try to land a top young quarterback in the next two drafts and build around Reed, Suggs and Ngata on D.

This is a prime team that can pull a Tampa Bay next year and go 9-7 or 10-6.....They have a RB in his prime in McGahee, TE in Todd Heap, WR' in Derrick Mason and a still potent defense......If they went out and traded a 2nd and 3rd rounder for Donovan McNabb they could then cut loose McNair and Boller......Let Troy Smith learn behind McNabb and if Donovan plays only 12-13 games, let Smith fill in and gain experience and hand off to McGahee......

They are primed for a turnaround providing they get a solid head coach, Marty Schottenheimer and acquire a QB......McNabb

I don't want the Ravens to be a one and done team like Tampa. I want them to be legitimate contenders for the Super Bowl and right now that isn't realistic. The Ravens also don't have the money to afford McNabb. Even if they do, Minnesota and Chicago is a much better fit for McNabb if he is let go.

LOL... i forgot about that one...

They should start by hiring Rex Ryan as coach. He is the only choice in my mind.

January 9, 2008  09:09 PM ET

Hell, no. If the Ravens hire Rex, the inmates will still be running the asylum. It also doesn't help matters when you consider the fact that the two previous Defensive Coordinators for the Ravens, Marvin Lewis and Mike Nolan have looked very average running their own show. I haven't been impressed with Rex what has done when he didn't have half the Pro Bowl defense lining up for him.
