NFL Nation Semi-Finals: Choose 3 NFL teams that didnt make the playoffs this year that will next year.

name teams first, argue second and third

Teams:
Saints
Vikings
Browns

Minnesota Vikings
New Orleans Saints
Arizona Cardinals

Okay, we are disagreeing on the Cardinals and Browns. The Browns have a great offense with Jamal Lewis, Derek Anderson, and Braylon Edwards. The Cardinals have Matt Leinart who was hurt most of this season. Edgerin James who is definetly past his prime, and Larry Fitzgerald. The Cardinals win in WRs but the Browns win in QB's and HB's. The Browns this year were 10-6 in a much tougher conference while the Cards were 8-8 in the NFC. As of defense, the Browns gave up a few less points but had to play in a much tougher offensive division. They played the Steelers, Bengals, and Ravens while the Cardinals played the Seahawks, 49ers and Rams. The differences, in the Cards division 3 teams had below 400 points and 2 had below 300. In the Browns division, only 1 had below 200. Another thing is that the Cardinals were a measly 5-7 in the NFC and an even worse 3-3 in the division. (3-3 may not sound so bad but they played bothe the 49ers and the Rams twice). Im will conclude my arguement by saying that also the rams will be much improved next year which will mske it harder for them. Just face it the Browns have more of a chance of making the playoffs next year!

Your entire second argument was about this season, mine will be about next season:

Let's start with the easy arguments against Cleveland
1. Harder schedule: They have to play the NFC East, the AFC South, Buffalo, and Denver
Arizona has to play the NFC East, the AFC East, Carolina, and Minnesota (not to mention the NFC West opponents twice)
http://www.theredzone.org/strength.asp - Browns have the 9th hardest schedule and the Cards have the 22nd toughest

Ignoring common opponents:
Browns play:
Steelers(2)
Ravens(2)
Bengals(2)
Broncos
Colts
Jags
Titans
Texans

Cards play:
Shawks(2)
Rams(2)
49ers(2)
Vikes
Panthers
Pats
Dolphins
2. Who will the Browns QB be? There are lots of rumors about Anderson being traded, so their QB could very well be Brady Quinn (not one complete game or NFL start)
3. The Browns had an easy schedule this year: they only had 1 win against a team with a winning record as compared to Arizona's 3 (including 1 over Cleveland)
4. The NFC west is an easier division to win
5. It is easier to win a wild card in the NFC as compared to the AFC (you admit AFC's harder)
6. 2nd Year under Whisenhunt (+3 in the win department after 1 year)

Ok the Browns can win at least 9 of their games while I can only see the Cards winning 7 or 8 again. By the way you forgot about half of the games for both teams. The Cards also have a QB controversy cuz Leinart was out most of the season and they don't know if he will be back to 100% at seasons start. Most likely the Browns won't trade Anderson and if they do it will only be for something that will improve them elsewhere. Also Quinn has great potential. ANyway, do you see any of the close teams to the wildcard this year dropping out in the NFC? The Vikings will only improve, the Giants will remain good, Philly will get better, Washington will still be good, and the Saints will be back in the race. There are at least 6 or 7 other teams that will be in the race besides Arizona. In the AFC things always change in the wildcard. The point is, like I said before, the Browns will only get better and the Cardinals will probably stay the same. If they lose Anderson... Oh well, they will just get a few other good players for him that will improve them in other areas like on D.

The Browns won't win 9 games with the schedule they have, and remember that both Cincinnati and Baltimore are going to improve themsevles and will have an easier schedule in the division (due to playing 3rd and 4th place teams while cleveland plays 2nd place). I didn't forget about half the games, i left off the 5 games the cards and browns have in common (please actually read my argument)

The Cards do not have a QB controversy, Whisenhunt met with leinart and told him he will be the starter in 2008 (http://cbs2.com/sports/Matt.Leinart.Arizona.2.620976.html)

If the Browns don't trade Anderson, they have a QB who had ratings of 71.6, 83.3, 57.1, 53.4 and 75.4 the last 5 games which he went 3-2 against opponents like arizona, the jets, buffalo, cincy and 49ers (if he goes 4-1 they actually make the playoffs)

If they trade Anderson, it will be like starting over with an unproven QB in Quinn
I do not see Arizona getting a wildcard, I see them taking the NFC West. I also do not see Cleveland getting more than 7 wins next year which means they don't take either the division or wild card

You did not answer anything about number 3, 4, 5, or 6 on my counters which means I win

Duquesne:
Minnesota Vikings - No
New Orleans Saints - Yes
Arizona Cardinals - Yes

Masta:
Saints - Yes
Vikings - No
Browns - Yes

I will wait for the arguments, but I am leaning towards the Cardinals more...

E-A-G-L-E-S .... lost 5 games by 6 pts or less and were 1st in opponents winning percentage this year..

I want to see what the Browns record would be with a respectable schedule. We all saw what happened to the Jets this year.

Report Offensive Comment

wow trade....did i send you my argument already? haha

I have to go with DM, Saints will get healthy, Vikings have a lethal backfield and my Brownies, well they'll be just fine with their schedule, thanks though.

I'd say that the eagles would make it over both the cardinals and browns. McNabb didn't really start playing at 100% (healthwise) untill a few weeks after returning from his ankle injury. They finished 8-8 with one of, if not, the hardest schedule in the league. There might be some unrest in their division next season with the Redskins losing Joe Gibbs, and Dallas likely to lose both Tony Sparano and Jason Garrett. All of that said Philly is on the market for a big reciever in the offseason... potentially Chad Johnson, or drafting DeSean Jackson? With McNabb back at 100% and an addition of a real threat at WR with Westbrook in the backfield... watchout.

Sorry i meant cardinals and vikings.

Report Offensive Comment

i chose based on winnable divisions....nfc west is much easier than nfc east or afc north

Report Offensive Comment

Minnesota
St Louis
Baltimore (providing they get a QB)

Report Offensive Comment

all this is so hard to say right now because of what can happen through the draft and through free agency...i chose teams in the weakest divisions...and i agree with you dj...baltimore has a better chance than cleveland if they get a QB...but that could be a big if

Bears will get over SB hangover, get a better QB

The Steelers play the

Jaguars
Colts
Texans
TItans
Chargers
Cowboys
Eagles
Redskins
Giants
Pats
Browns
Browns

All teams .500 or above.

Report Offensive Comment

Browns, Eagles, and Vikings.

Report Offensive Comment

browns will not win the division....and its impossible to win a wild card in the afc...thats why my teams are NFC teams in the 3 weak divisions

Report Offensive Comment

His numbers? Sure.

This is what I was afraid of, people don't read the actual arguments, they just see this and say, "But Rice has better #'s!"

Report Offensive Comment

Whoops...that's a cut and paste from another TD.

Report Offensive Comment

haha ok...i was gonna say, i think i voted for you lifer so i didnt know why you were sayin something about not reading args

Report Offensive Comment

since everyone appears to be voting before hearing any arguments, i'm forced to put an abbreviated argument down here....
why arizona has a better shot than cleveland
1. cleveland has a harder schedule next year
2. who will the browns QB be?
3. NFC west is easier to win than the AFC North
4. Browns had 1 win this year against teams above .500, arizona had 3...including 1 over cleveland
5. easier to win a wild card spot in the NFC as compared to the AFC
6. second year under the whisenhunt system (3 win improvement from last year to this year)
7. 8 wins this year with a back up QB leading the way
8. The Browns can't beat the Steelers
