Michigan-

Chad Henne, Manningham, Hart, Jake long, Shawn Crable, Jamar Adams, Adam Kraus, and Adrian Arrington. 6 Top Senior Leaders and 2 top tiered Jrs.

Henne, henne is leaving with a back up with the name of Ryan Mallett.... No wait...who everyone thought would be there back up, has ended up leaving to scope out other schools....So going into this season Michigan will be working with a no name QB unless a transfer from heaven comes in to take Malletts place...
Hart- wow, losing the running game, when there 2nd MINOR steadily dropped his numbers from his freshman season to this season...averaging 5.7 his freshman to 4.3 his sophmore year...hopefully....no better yet he NEEDS, with getting the majority of the carries, to have a break out season...

With Michigan contending every year for Big ten Championship and the gaining of a new coach it will be a stretch if they can produce and maintain players during the this upcoming year. With Penn st losing maybe 3 players at the most they will have a huge team of Seniors, along with Ohio st retaining most of their Jrs. Illinois took a hard hit with Mendenhall and Lehman moving on as well, but not nearly as great as Michigan.

All good points, but I will say Illinois will suffer the most. Michigan always is great at recruiting talent, and losing people never was a big deal especially when all of the above mentioned went 0-4 against OSU and 1-3 in bowl games. So the talent will still be there. The reason why Michigan will be hurt next year is not because of losing players (I mean look at everyone OSU lost and went back to a title game!) but because of their new coach who is in turmoil, and trying to implement a spread offense without a quarterback since Mallet left. And he can't be considered part of this argument because he didn't hurt them by leaving in the DRAFT which is what is specified here. He just transferred. So Illinois is losing their star RB and LB. The reason why this will hurt more the above mentioned Wolverines is because the Illini outside of this year sucked. They never had talent, and even though they are recruiting talent now, its a bit too early to say they can just reload. Mendenhall was so big to that option offense, that now once he leaves that whole offense will fall apart. That's because of the DRAFT, not the new coach new offense that will be UM problem. And Lehman was a beast...

Excellent opening... thought about taking my guys but i i didnt...

Michigan is good at recruiting..really good..but the past two years illinois has been better had has had better recruiting classes..Zook has taken one of the bottom feeding teams to the top in 3 years...And not to mention Michigan had all 6 of these seniors playing great football 4 years straight! No other players have had the chance to take there position with these guys being there for all 4 years....they (the recruits) haven't had the feeling of starting a game or even competing much in any of the games...So it will be alot of seniors that haven't played much to be filling voids..

The loss of one Mendenhall just brings another one in in...thats right...the un heard of Mendenhall WALTER Mendenhall who was just as good as his brother during high school but didn't get the start/ He did however get into some plays this year and showed that he will be just as good as his brother...

Also they will have a Soph transfer from Florida a wide receiver Jarred Fason..he was one of the top High school wide receivers in 2006..he will open up illinois pass game more..as we saw against USC that they need to do...

Ok steveo, *rolling up my sleeves*...
Yes Michigan has a lot of good recruits who haven't played. But they are at that stage where (the program is) they can just reload. Illinois is NOT at that stage Steveo and you should know that. Yes maybe Walter is good, but Mendenhall wasn't that great until 1 or two years before he really started clicking with Juice and that offense. And if his brother has to run the same thing, there is a chance it won't be as successful. And that transfer from Florida? Who knows how he'll play in the Big Ten? And Michigan's problem really isn't the DRAFT! Even though they lose all those people, they are at that stage where they can reload. UM' problem will be with the new coach, etc. Illinois is the team that will take the hardest hit by losing Mendenhall, Martin O'Donnell, and J. Lehman. He was nasty. You were the one going to every single big ten defensive player of the year poll, blog, and throwdown saying Lehman should be considered. That's a tough loss. Look at PSU. Lose Connor, bring in Lee. What I'm saying is losing players at PSU or Mich. doesn't hurt as much as at Illinois who is still young. And by the way, Pryor is probably going to Michigan....

OK Anthony ::rolling up MY sleeves now:
I think you are giving too much credit to UofM's recruiting..granted they are a powerhouse football program, but when you look back and in every category: offense, defense, special teams, running back, qb, linemen...so on and so forth, they have lost there #1 player for that position...EVERY SINGLE PLAYER! The best recruiting across america wont fill this void...too many GOOD/GREAT players have left...

You can compare this to last years Ohio St and how they turned out this year, but when it comes down to it...Michigan with their good recruiting still lost the BIg ten along with 3 other games that they SHOULD have won... especially for having that many star starting Seniors!!! while ohio st still continued on being dominate in the big 10.

Illinois without that great recruiting history has still made a serious impact in the big ten without that many big players and recruiting classes in the past 3 years..Michigan on the other hand has kind of stayed steady and gone no where with the players they have recruited. Lossing all there seniors will be to big of a hole to fill...watch for Michigan to drop to 4th 5th or 6th in the Big 10....

Yeah but if you compare the two's recruiting, Michigan has a much deeper set of good recruits than Illinois. See you are saying which team will suffer next year from the DRAFT the most. The reason why we will see Michigan so low is because they are in a transition year with a new coach and a new offense. Even if all those guys could come back they would still do badly next year.. if illinois didn't have mendenhall and j. lehman leaving next year they would be just as good, if not better. UM is suffering next year from the transition, not the draft. It just happened that both will happen this year. But a good program doesn't just fall off the map. Illinois on the other hand can be a bit shaky as they are a program on the rise right now. BUT REMEMBER THAT MICHIGAN CAN HAVE THE SAME PLAYERS NEXT YEAR, AND THEY WILL STILL FINISH WITH 4 -5 LOSSES BECAUSE OF THE OFFENSIVE AND COACHING TRANSITION! your topic states "Which Big-10 team will be hurt the most from this years NFL draft?" And the team that will BE HURT MOST BY THE DRAFT will be Illinois. MY MAIN POINT IS THAT UM IS HURT BY TRANSITION MORE THAN THE DRAFT. So good luck steveo, and remember GO BIG TEN!

this 1200 limit is killing me. i hit that AGAIN!!

January 17, 2008  02:40 PM ET

If Michigan makes it through the season with fewer than 5 losses, that will shock me.

January 17, 2008  02:41 PM ET

this is an ineresting debate. It's really an argument that scUM's relaoding abilities are greater than Illinois's ability to replace their running back, or vice versa. We all saw what OSU did after losing all that firepower from one side of the football, but then again, we saw the same from scUM. They lost most of their defense, and that was one of the key areas they had difficulty with throughout the year. If the young players on O perform like the young players on D did this year, scUM could be in shaky water. I believe that they'll find their stride, but losing that much of your offense without having a truly veteran D (as OSU did this year) is hard to overcome.

Illinois will have to rely on Juice's maturity. The big test will come early against Mizzou. Win that, and I have Ill. right up there with OSU at the top of the B10 chopping order. The champ with probably be decided at their matchup in Champagne near the end of the season. But, if Juice has plateaued, and does not continue to grow and mature, the loss of Mendenhal will be HUGE. Unless what you say is truen about his younger brother, or some other no-name has a break-out year, Illinois might have some difficulty.

In the end, I'm gonna have to say that scUM was hit hardest. Ill returns much of it's defense that was fairly impressive this year, and whom I expect to get better. I saw no particular flash o brilliance (except for the bowl) from scUM's D, that right there is the difference

well rampagerister he picked the team i was going to pick...michigan. but i had to defend my honor and a good debater can use any team and debate it to the best of their ability.

January 17, 2008  03:12 PM ET

wow this is good to the both of you..idk I get both of your points..Illinois isn't at that stage where they can just reload and keep winning..and as I have said many times before the Illini have to prove next year that last year wasn't a fluke...but Michigan is losing quite a bit. I have to give my vote to SteveO based on the fact that Michigan is the perrenial power. If Illinois doesnt play well next year or loses like 4-5 games everyone will say one year wonder, happens all the time. But if Michigan struggles next year then they will say its because of the loss of all those key seniors coach Rodgiguez doesnt have any players..just my opinion

January 17, 2008  03:21 PM ET

or they will say michigan struggles next year NEW COACH, NEW OFFENSE! but thx bagerfan for being objective. *no hint of sarcasm* really badger good comment and vote.

January 17, 2008  03:43 PM ET

January 17, 2008  05:42 PM ET

Vote to Anthony for having great arguements. If I had to pick the team,I would go with Steveo, but Anthony brought his A-game.

January 17, 2008  06:53 PM ET

that transition is called the draft.... transitioning from an all star senior line up leaving for the draft.....

January 17, 2008  06:54 PM ET

or old offense to spread
old coach to rich rod.

January 17, 2008  06:55 PM ET

I actually think losing all these players isn't bad for Michigan.

Many of them I don't think would be great for the new system anyway, and would clear up room for the guys we need for our new system.

January 17, 2008  06:55 PM ET

the new offense and coach will have nothign to due to the fact that Michigan is losing 8 STAR players!!! 6 of them seniors who started there position.!!!

January 17, 2008  06:58 PM ET

how could hart and manninham not be good for a spread offense???? they are both great at there position...the run game could open there spread or vice versa...its simple

January 17, 2008  06:59 PM ET

O, and since this in no way was restricted to football (correct me if I'm wrong), I might've taken Ohio State Basketball.

January 17, 2008  07:02 PM ET

it says in the title from the NFL draft...unless OSU basketball players got drafted into the nfl...haha it ok pete

January 17, 2008  07:03 PM ET

I'm losing it man, I swear...
