What is more shocking; Peyton Manning missing the AFC Championship Game, or Eli Manning playing in the NFC Championship Game?

I'm taking Eli playing today. Peyton just came off of a Super Bowl season, and that gave him more over his little brother. Then Eli had some games this year where he was just flat-out horrible. The Giants didn't start off too hot either. Anyway, the strength of teams in the AFC is much greater than the NFC. If the Colts were an NFC football team, we would probably see them playing later on tonight. No matter how good you are, there's another team right with you in the AFC.

Eli was always thought of the little brother and not capable of making it this far. First he beat the Bucaneers, and then they beat the Cowboys last week after 2 losses in the regular season to Dallas. Eli playing today is a bigger surprise.

I'm more surprised about Peyton losing. all year, the Colts were absolutely dominant and their only meaningful losses came to the Patriots and Chargers. After last year, I was convinced that Peyton was finally over his whole choking thing. I thought the only team that could possibly beat this awesome team were the Pats, and they couldn't even get there! The only thing standing in the Colts way was a Chargers team without Philip Rivers, LT, and Antonio Gates. I still can't believe he didn't make it.

Eli really wasn't that surprising. The Giants running game and defense was great, and when you do that, you don't need your awful QB to win the game for you. Plus, they beat the Cowboys, who hadn't looked good in a month. The Giants are a talented team, I'm not surprised they got this far.

Exactly, their key losses were to the Chargers and Patriots, two dominant teams in the playoffs. So when you lose to both of the teams that played in the AFC Championship Game, it shouldn't come as a surprise that they didn't make it to the conference championship game. Also, the Chargers beat Indy in the regular season. Eli lost twice to Dallas, but then had a turnaround at the end of the year and beat the Cowboys in their 3rd game against them last week.

The Giants beat 2 teams that rested all their starters at the end of the season, though. I'm not surprised that they won both.

I was giving the Chargers no chance against Indy, I'm still shocked that when it really counted, the amazing Peyton Manning could not pull through. The Chargers were missing their 3 best starters! How can the Colts lose to them?!

By the way, did you see the regular season Bolts-Colts game? Adam Vinatieri missed a chip shot field goal at the end that would have won it. THE ADAM VINARTIERI! That game proved nothing. The Colts, and Peyton Manning, choked.

Forfeited Turn

In conclusion, I am SHOCKED that Peyton Manning didn't play in the AFC championship. I'm sure they would have put a better fight than the Norvs did. All Peyton had to do was win one game, and after last season, I was sure he would. Well, with a great team, he choked, they all choked. I am SHOCKED.

We will see both in many playoff games before their careers are done.

im taking eli playing in the super bowl...WOW

January 20, 2008  10:42 PM ET

I know, who would have thunk. Eli in the superbowl. Now the questin is, how much is Eli going to rub it in on Peyton oer the next couple of weeks. Tiki also has to be shooting himself in the foot for missing his chance at the superbowl by retiring a year early.

I'll say Eli in the superbowl

All else being equal, the winner is always the surprise. Anyone can lose, but not everyone can win.

But as an admitted Eli hater, I'm shocked at how much better he's looked in the last month. The Giants have beaten quality teams all the way down this stretch, and have refused to be intimidated by opponent, venue or history.

But I STILL hope they lose the Super Bowl 100-0.

Has to be Eli playing in the Super bowl.. Totaly unexpected rise to where they are !

Sorry...waaaaaaaaaaaaay too busy the last few days and couldn't make it in time.

I'm more shocked by Peyton. Despite 6 interceptions, the Colts could have beaten the Chargers when they played during the season. The score was 23-21.

I expected Peyton to blow by San Diego, and then get beaten by New England so I am surprised by the outcome.

I knew Eli was ready. I'm a Jet fan but I'm a big supporter of Eli, so I'm happy that he won.

Vote to the right.

Did someone just say the Chargers were a dominant team?

January 22, 2008  04:44 PM ET

I was in total shock when the Colts lost.
Total shock.

i think eli needs to have a talk with Rex grossman and get some pointers for how mediocre to bad qbs should perform in the Super Bowl

January 22, 2008  04:55 PM ET

Peytons better just cuz Eli had a few good games doesnt mean he is better, Peyton has been consistent his whole careeer

January 22, 2008  05:33 PM ET

Yep I have to go with Eli. Didn't think he would have made it that far.

January 22, 2008  10:11 PM ET

Steveo you cant even compare the two.Chicago in the playoffs won in spite of Grossman.Eli actually had something to do with his teams success.
look at the stats alone Grossman completed only 56 percent of his passes, had 3 tds and 3 ints 3 fumbles and a 73.2 rating while Eli had a 62.4 completion pct with 4tds and 0 ints no fumles and a 99.1 rating.
