NTDL:College Football:Will Michigan finish with less than 5 losses?

Yes. They will.

"Why?" You ask. (maybe, probably not, oh well.) "They lost Mike and Chad, what will they do?"

Here's what.

They made two absolutely, positively, great acquirements:

Head Coach Rich Rodriguez took over as Llyod Carr succesor

Running Back Sam McGuffie replaces Mike Hart. Check him out, he's crazy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4IJ17ODo_s

Did you watch the video? That's why the Wolverines will win at least enough games to get them 5 losses or less.

If you combine McGuffie's sick running ability and Rodriguez's all-for-running-the-ball coaching style, they will win.

Your turn.

My first time at this so give me a break, but I think you're missing some points.
Yeah, Rich Rodriguez is a great coach, but he had Steve Slaton, Pat White, and a slew of nameless talent.
Who does Michigan really have left? They lost so many good seniors and juniors to the draft, they're left with only a skeleton of a team. Not to mention that they also lost Ryan Mallet, their hope at QB. Admittedly he might not fit Rodriguez system, but both could adapt their styles to use his skills.
As for McGuffie, one he's a freshman, and small at that. His "sickest" move was a humiliating jump over the defender. Its pretty cool, but it won't fly in the Big 10. If he does play any as a freshman, it won't be for long with his defiant running style that's going to get him leveled.
Who's left at Michigan that's worth mentioning?
Besides, the Big 10 is a strong conference. They might be able to pull it off if they schedule cupcakes for their non-conference games.
Then again, that might just make it worse...

Ok, good job for your first time. But I can counter it.

As for the freshman factor, being a freshman might be good. His opponets won't be ready for him. A prime example of this is Adrian Peterson's freshman season in 2004. 2nd in Heisman voting, 3rd in Maxwell voting, and was an All-American. Who's to say Sam McGuffie won't do that?

And as for the running style, I would compare it to Rodriguez's old star pupil, Steve Slaton. Just running aaround the offensive line, and then running to daylight using his speed. Rodriguez is used to that. You don't need moves when you have speed like that.

There are people to replace the losses; following are players who are commited, leaning towards, or are commited to Michigan:

TE Brandon Moore-Commited

CB J.T. Floyd-Leaning towards Michigan

WR D.J. Woods-Leaning towards michigan

RB Sam McGuffie-Commited

RB Avery Horn-Commited

QB Terrelle Pryor-Considering Michigan

Oh, and one last thing: Michigan's schedule will lead them to success. Miami(Ohio), Utah, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Toledo, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern.

Your turn.

It seems like a pretty weak schedule, but any one of those teams could turn out good next year. I'd say Toledo is the only given win. The others are not great, but I'd still think they're a viable threat. Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan State especially.
As for the players you mentioned, they may be good, but they're all still freshman. Pryor, the miracle QB, hasn't even commited to Michigan. Even if he does, do you think they'll give him signifigant playing time or turn over the offense to him his first year.
The only ones you have down as commited are 2 Rbs and a TE. Do they have anyone to make up for the loss of star OT Jake Long. No commited defensive players mentioned, how many starters did they lose on that side of the ball, certainly enough to significantly weaken their D.
I think they will have fairly good skill position players, but they will be nothing without their line and defense
If they lost 4 last year with a team of star players, future pro players, they can only go down with a team of only or mostly freshman as you seem to think.

Well, this team has the potential to beat all of those teams by 15 or more if they get Terrelle Pryor(which, if I'm informed correctly, will most likely happen), so that's 8 easy wins.

It's possible that they could go undefeated, even, because Ohio State might just give up after two straight National Championships in which they were completely dominated in(probably not going to happen, but it would be cool if they did!), and in which case, these are their probable wins:

Utah

Miami-Ohio

Notre Dame

Wisconsin

Toledo

Penn State

Michigan State

Minnesota

Northwestern

Ohio State(Rich Rodriguez is a big game coach)

The only two teams I left out there on their regular season schedule are;

Illinois(loads of momentum going into the season after dream season)

Purdue(huge momentum)

It's definantly possible that they might be able to beat Purdue, and it's always possible that they could beat Illinois.

So, now, giving the possibility of an upset either way, I give Michigan 8-12 wins. Probably around 8 or 9. That would give them 3 or 4 losses, not quite 5.

Now, good luck on you last argument of your first throwdown.

Your turn.......

I count five possible to likely losses
Wisconsin
Penn State
Michigan State
Minnesota
Ohio State
And I also see many of the other teams with a chance to beat Michigan. Not to mention Illinois and Purdue, the two losses you count for them.
To say that Pryor is the only hope for Michigan is putting them in a deep hole. I think he has just as good a chance or better of going to Ohio State. He gets a year to understudy and get to know the system while still running some plays behind Todd Boeckman, then he gets to take over as a sophmore. A bigger point though is the return of several "stars" on the OSU O-line. A huge point for him will be O-line play since no QB likes getting hit. Last, I think he would want to go to the better program. OSU has just been to the BCS championship twice, while Michigan just lost to a D2 school, which would he want to say he's going to?
More importantly than the debate of if TP will go or not is how big a difference it will make. Do you really think as a freshman he will be able to turn around this team? Hart Henne and Long, future NFL players did poorely, how do you expect a bunch of freshman and a brand new coach to win more? UM has no chance

If they get Pryor then the season will be a stud. If not, a dud

that kid tries to jump like that he will get freakin CREAMED!!!....and is that high school??? what a huge difference....you also forgot to mention that mario manningham will be leaving jake long, shawn crable, adrian arrington, jamar adams, adam kraus along with hart and henne...thats 6 seniors and 2 top tiered juniors...

thats every major position that a senior or leader of the team will be leaving from....

and its not an all for running style...its a spread...you can eithe run first to open the pass or pass to open the run...either way its a spread of wide receivers
