Chris Paul averages 22 Points per game and 11 assits per game. He is the leader of the Hornets and they are now a legitamate western conference contender. Paul also leads the NBA in steals. He is the ultmate teram player and makes everyone around him better.

Chris Paul is a great young point guard who is definitely up and coming. But the 'best"? I think that honor still belongs to Steve Nash. Paul may be scoring 3 or so more points a game, but Nash has more assists, a higher Field Goal percentage, and is better from the stripe.

In fact, if you are talking about just best young point guards, you would probably get some arguement from Deron Williams fans.

Paul is having a great season. But he's not the best yet.

Ok let's take a look at some things.
1. Chris Paul is way better defensively than Steve Nash
2.Chris Paul has single handedly made the Hornets a conteder
3.Steve should have more assists b/c he plays in an upbeat offense
4.Nash also has better talent around him in Amare, Marion and Diaw than Paul does in Chandler and West.

I won't argue that the Nash has a better supporting cast, than Paul, but c'mon, you don't get to where the Hornets are with one player alone. Paul has not "single-handedly" made the Hornets a contender, he's a part of a young up and coming team. Nash is part of a strong, veteran team. That also means Nash has to share the ball more than Paul does - Amare and Marion need their numbers too.

The point is, when Nash does shoot, he's more accurate than Paul, especially from 3-point land. You really want to argue against a 2-time MVP? His career might have reached it's peak, but Steve Nash is still the man.

Forfeited Turn

Ok, no argument? Here's your sign.

Just to start things off, Chris Paul does not lead the league in steals and averages 21 pts a game. He is 2nd in steals behind the true best PG In the game, Baron Davis. Baron averages 23pts a game and 9assists a game. Baron is a guy that loves attacking the basket and getting fouled, but also kicks it out to set up 3's. Paul is more of a typical PG who likes to shoot and pass, while driving it in a couple times a game. But Baron is much more effective at what he does then Paul is. Paul has about 40 more assists on the year then Baron, which really isnt that much. But I looked deeper into it and found that about 32% of his assits go to Peja. That means that Paul really only looks for one guy to pass it to. Baron has a better team to work with, but none are nearly as good shooters as Peja. If Paul keeps that % up, teams will know to cover Peja tighter when Paul's got it ( which is most of the time since he's a PG), which will result in less assists and more t.o. Baron's favorite target to pass to on the court is Stephen Jackson at 16% and then Harrington at 14%. This means Baron knows how to spread the ball around more and is a more dominate force to stop. And showing you all that, I still must say that baron is a MUCH more complete player because he has recorded 24 blks on the season, compared to 1 for Paul, and baron has 62 more rebounds on the season.

man i thought i took the challenge this is so gay i did all that for nothing

January 21, 2008  12:12 PM ET

I can name a couple PGs that are arguably better than Paul:
- Steve Nash
- Baron Davis
- possibly even Deron Williams (he is just underated)

January 21, 2008  12:12 PM ET

relax jmoney, it will be alright

Vote T-Fo, Nash is the man

January 21, 2008  12:12 PM ET

I think this TD is premature, maybe in a couple of years it will be true, but not now

January 21, 2008  12:31 PM ET

why would you wait a couple of years when eh TD says this year...

January 21, 2008  12:35 PM ET

D Will is the best for a building team, but it has to go to Nash still. But D Will is ahead of Chris Paul. I will TD that one all day

January 21, 2008  12:45 PM ET

marbury has career avg.'s of 20 and 10 dimes that doesnt mean he's the best point guard...paul is good but not yet the best

January 21, 2008  01:01 PM ET

Paul is the best now. He's proving that this year.

January 21, 2008  02:17 PM ET

Nash is still top dog

Paul is next best young PG

1-Nash
2-Kidd
3-Baron Davis
4-CP
5-Tony Parker

January 21, 2008  02:31 PM ET

CP single handedly???

LOL

He has talent, David West (underrated PF), Peja Stojakovic (deadly 3-ball shooter), Tyson Chandler is a beast defensively and rebounding, Morris Peterson is a spot up shooter who has underachieved this year

January 21, 2008  03:18 PM ET

I won't vote yet since T-fo hasn't posted his second argument.

January 22, 2008  04:39 PM ET

Sorry had to go to school today missed my argument so here it is

You say Chris Paul hasn't siongle handedly turned the Hornetrs around the is Paul's 3rd year. He has led the Hornets to the 3rd best record in the NBA. If you take Paul away from the Hornets then they are not even a playoff team while if you take Nash away from the Suns then they are still a playoff team. Paul is the better all around PG and you have to remember that offense isn't everything.

January 22, 2008  04:40 PM ET

Deron Williams and Chris Paul...that is a debate that is going to go on for years to come. As an Illini fan I am obviously bias, but I feel these 2 are equals as point guards.

January 22, 2008  04:47 PM ET

indy, I'll say it again...he's one of the best and on the rise. But to definitively say he's the BEST? I'm not ready to go there yet. There's a lot of talent at PG in the NBA, and I'm not just talking Nash.

i really think kidd is the best.
