SIFS Tourney: 4th Round: MLB Playoff Predictions

List-1st
arguements-2nd and 3rd

AL East-Red Sox
AL Central-Tigers
AL West-Angels
AL Wild Card-Indians

NL East-Phillies
NL Central-Brewers
NL West-Diamondbacks
NL Wild Card-Padres

AL East-Red Sox
AL Central-Tigers
AL West-Angels
AL Wild Card-Yankees

NL East-I'll go with the Phillies barely over the Mets
NL Central-Cubs
NL West-Diamondbacks
NL Wild Card-Rockies

Disagreements:
Indians vs Yankees (AL Wild Card)
Brewers vs Cubs (NL Central)
Padres vs Rockies (NL Wild Card)

I have the Indians beating the Yankees because the Indians have pitching and hitting. They have good pitching and hitting.

Pitchers:
CC Sabathia
Fausto Carmona
Byrd
Westbrook
Rafael Betancourt
Fultz
Perez
Borowski

Hitters:
Victor Martinez
Shoppach
Garko
Hafner
Casey Blake
Andy Marte
Peralta
Jason Michaels
David Dellucci
Sizemore

They have good hitting and good pitching. Very impressive team that will make it to the Wild Card. The only reason the Tigers are winning the division is because they improved with Cabrera, Willis, and Renteria. That is the only reason.

I have the Brewers over the Cubs because the Brewers have good pitching. Sheets, Gallardo, Suppan, Villanueva, and Vargas, Bush, and at points (not very often though) Capuano. They have a good bullpen in Turnbow, Mota, Torres, Shouse, Riske, and as the closer, Eric Gagne. If he pitches like he did with Texas, than the Brewers are going to be very good in the closer role.

They have good hitting also in Kendell, Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, Braun, Hall, Hart, Gwynn, Cameron, and Gross.

Forfeited Turn

The Padres have way better pitching than the Rockies. With Chris Young, Jake Peavy, Maddux, Prior, and Wolf in the starting rotation, they won't lose many games. I don't see them beating out the Diamondbacks to win the division, but I do see them beating out the Rockies for the NL Wild Card.

In the bullpen they have Heath Bell, Cla Meredith that are good and will help them keep leads in games.

Their closer is Trevor Hoffman, the career saves leader, and he will get a lot of valuable saves for the Padres, and once he enters the game, they won't be losing. He might have a bad game once in a blue moon, but not often.

The Brewers, in my opinion are good hitting wise and will beat out the Cubs by a game. It will be a close division race between the two, but the Brewers will come in and take the division. They are just good overall, and the only reason they didn't win the division last year, is the lack of experience. They have that now, so they should be set to go, and win the division.

I feel that the Indians are a better team, overall then the Yankees. The Yanks are a good team, but the Indians will be able to beat them. They will come close to winning the division.

Crap. Missed it. I'll have to make up for it here.

The Indians are a one-year wonder. Don't credit Fausto Carmona. I'm not dubbing him a great pitcher after one good year. He was 1-10 in 2006. I'm not sold.

The Yankees haven't missed the playoffs since pre-strike. They definitely have more experience than the Indians, who do not have a strong veteran leader like Derek Jeter. The Yanks have a great lineup top to bottom with the maturation of Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano. Don't forget about the solid pitching from Chien-Ming Wang. They have the young studs in Ian Kennedy, Joba Chamberlain, and Phillip Hughes. This team is just 4 years removed from the World Series.

The Brewers have bad pitching. The Cubs have Carlos Zambrano, Ted Lily, Jason Marquis, and Jon Lieber. They have the experience, not to mention youth in Jeff Samardzija (yeah!!!). Fielding could be a problem with Braun at third. The Cubs all have relatively good fielders.

I can't believe so many people are counting out the Rockies. This team is so young, yet they are coming off of a World Series bid. They are the best fielding team, and Tulowitski, Barmes, and Holliday should all improve.

Then after that I have the Tigers beating the Yanks, the Sox beating the Angels, and the Tigers beating the Sox. In the NL, I have the Cubs beating the Rockies, the D-backs beating the Phillies, and the D-backs beating the Cubs. The Tigers then go on to beat the D-bags (hehe) and win the World Series. Miguel Cabrera is the WS MVP.

I have the Tigers beating the Indians, Red Sox beating the Angels and the Tigers beating the Red Sox.

For the NL, I have the D'backs beating the Padres (barely), Phillies beating the Brewers, the D'backs beating the Phillies.

Then, for the World Series I have the Tigers beating the D'backs in 6 games. I also have Miguel Cabrera winning the World Series MVP.

Both sides have good picks. I don't think the Rockies will make it though.

Report Offensive Comment

Neither do I. They lucked out last year, and this year they won't beat the Padres or Diamondbacks.

Tigers can't play the Indians first round, teams from same division can't play in first round of playoffs, dyhard. Tigers would play Angels, Red Sox play Indians. I think Yankees will make it if they get Johan Santana, but now I doubt they will. Yankees hitting will get them in the playoffs, but they wont go anywhere

Report Offensive Comment

Uh... dyhard didn't really make any arguements other than just saying good pitching and good hitting. Hmmm... I vote for Irish. (Even though I hate Indy sports everything!)

Report Offensive Comment

Sorry, i got that mixed around. Sorry about that Garet Jax.

Way to vote on the arguements Gruv. *rolls eyes*

I will explain in my next arguement. Just getting a based opinion of the teams I choose first.

dyhard says lets go bucks! | 01/21/08

Willis sucks in the NL and that's like AAAA ball. Renteria has done nothing in the AL except suck. Cabrera is the only upgrade, and that will probably only fill in the hole that Sheffield (old, injured and sans steroids) and Magglio (vastly outperformed his actually skill level last year) will make.

The Indians' pitching is head and shoulders over the Tigers.

This is going to be a dog fight and I think anyone that automatically gives it to the Tigers becuase they signed Cabrera is crazy.

Truthfully, I see the Phillies winning the NL East (and the Nationals finishing 3rd...so you know). Otherwise, I can't predict anything else.
No vote.

Drat. I missed that argument, and it cost me. Bummer.

Report Offensive Comment

Well, your last arguement was good. Good throwdown with you.

I voted for Irish, even though I STRONGLY DISAGREE w/ his Yanks over Indians pick. They Yankees are old in a lot of spots, and except for Cano, their young guys don't add much. I don't trust the Yankees young pitchers to carry them. In fact, if all three of them start the season w/ the big club, at least one of them will get hurt. Young pitchers will either tire or be unreliable in a pennant ract.
