I would want

Tom Brady: Best QB in the league. By far. He can lead a team with no receiving talent at all (2006 Pats) to the AFC Championship. Broke a ton of records this year.

Adrian Peterson: I need a ground game, and this guys only 23, and is looking like the next Walter Payton. If not for his injury, he would have been the top RB of 2007.

Joe Thomas: Again, great young player. That is what expansion teams need.

I know I will get criticized for lack of D players, but I find these 3 superior to any other D player for my expansion team.

I'll go with:

Joe Thomas - if you're starting a franchise from scratch, you start with the guy who anchors the O-line. He's young, and already at a near Pro Bowl level.

I also want to get a franchise QB. But I have to keep in mind that the first couple of years might be a little rough...he's going to need to scramble and make plays on the run. I don't need a pocket passer, no matter how great the credentials...I'm gonna go with the guy who has a game that fits that description, who finished rated right behind Brady in the rankings but is five years younger and will mature with the team. I'll take...
Ben Roethlisberger.

Finally, great RB's pop up all over the place, a la Ryan Grant and Willie Parker. I'm also not willing to take a chance on Adrian's injuries. I thought about a stud WR, but I want someone to anchor my D-Line and bring the heat - someone who brought legitimacy to the Texans D and is also a youngster...I'll take...
Mario Williams

Roethlisberger over Brady?

Brady has led his team to 3 SB rings compared to Bens 1.
Brady has never had a bad injury, while Ben has missed a year.
Brady has more experience and turns every team into a winning one.
Brady is already regarded as one of the great alltime QBs.

Why would you pick against a guy like that?

Mario Williams is a respectable player, but he hasnt really had a great year yet. He also doesnt play in as much as an impact position as AP.

I understand the RB is easier to fill, but you arent gonna find a guy like AP just to "fill" the running back slot. This guy is special. In his first year as a pro, he almost singlehandedly led his team to the playoffs.

There's a simple reason for not taking Brady, and it's the same reason for not taking Peyton. This isn't about taking the best QB in the game. I'm not even trying to pretend that Ben ranks higher. But remember, you are building an expansion franchise here. That puts youth at a premium.
Brady is excellent and at the top of his game, playing for a premier franchise. He is at the top of his game when his line gives him a pocket and he picks apart the opposing defense. Unfortunately, that's not a luxury he would have with an expansion team. You need a QB who can evade a constant pass rush, move out of the pocket and create a play. That's where Ben's game comes into play. He's shown he can take a pounding and still make plays...plus he's only in his mid-20's...he'll be in his prime when the team finally starts to gel.
As to choosing a defensive stalwart over an RB, it's simple. The comments give plenty of other good choices to pick from besides Mario. But the point is you have to build around someone on D as well as O. RB's are not. in the long term, franchise players. They generally have shorter careers than other positions.

Forfeited Turn

A forfeited turn in a tourney TD? Bad form Paddy, bad form. Get in my belly.

i dont agree with Paddy but i will wait to see T-fo's team

Joe Thomas
Mario Williams/ Albert Haynesworth
Bob Sanders

When the Ravens started their frachise back a while ago, the were smart and picked up Ogden (great O-Line) and Ray Lewis (defensive leader). That solidified them for years to come. They still struggle offensively, but those two picks helped build the franchise to what it is today.

Vote to T-Fo for thinking about defense.

Joe Thomas
Bob Sanders
Albert Haynseworth

i wouldnt talk AD because he gets injured too much and RB is the easiest position to fill.

Yeah CP, we're smart GM's

Excellent job, T-Fo. You have just effectively argued Ben Roethlisberger over Tom Brady in this situation. Big time style points for that.
