I'd gotten all my syllabi for my classes this semester when I looked down and realize I have two tests @ 9:15 and 10:10, --the day after the Super Bowl.
There's only one solution to this dilemma-- The Super Bowl should be moved to Saturday night. Not just for me but think of the possibilities. For all you blue collar workers that means no more paying the price on bland Monday mornings in the office because you wanted to enjoy the spectacle
The Super Bowl has evolved into a major social occasion in American culture and has become one of our society's best excuses 2 party. Think of the spectacle and how much more enjoyable the Saturday Super Bowl would be w/o the extra burden of waking up for work at the crack of dawn next morning.
While traditionalists will shout from the rooftops about tradition-- it also wasnt traditional for the 2 week layoff between championship games and Super Bowl Sunday. The innovation of MNF and Sunday N.F. was once taboo & yet their success has spanned 37 years & spawned hybrid Thursday & Saturday Night Football specials. College football plays it's championship game on the peculiar Monday evening so the restraints of tradition shouldn't be a concern

I don't know about you, but to play the Super Bowl (the ultimate game of football in the known universe) on any other day BUT Sunday at 6:15 PM would be a crime against humanity (in my opinion of course). You can't remove the game from its 60+ year placement (previously known as the NFL Championship and the AFL-NFL Championship) on SUNs. You, me, nor anybody else really wants to get up the next day, but you can't help that life keeps moving even when you have the worst hangover you've ever had or your fav team just got handled in the SB. For students there would usually be a day off after the old SB day which is this SUN unfortunately 9/11 & the one week stoppage of play caused everything to be pushed back.

Another thing that makes SUNs far better than SATs is the fact that many places are either already closed or close early unlike on SATs where things have normally hours, slightly shortened, or open longer. You see SUN is the perfect day despite the rude awakening of a alcohol induced MON nightmare. I work SATs every week and if the SB came on at 6:15 I'd miss nearly the ENTIRE first half. The SB should stay on the day it was born or MON should just be made a National Holiday.

I didn't say for my dilemma this year. I meant for future Super Bowls. Obviously it's too late this season. If college football which is played on Saturday's can play the natl. title on Monday's, why can't the NFL do the same? It wouild help the game abroad as well which has been the NFL's main focus lately(ex: Giants v. Dolphins). While it's played in the wee hours of Monday morning in Europe. It would no longer take place during a work day in Australia or in Asia

Problem with that:

though there are fans of the NFL and football in Europe, Asia, etc the game is played for US, the American citizens NOT people over there. This is OUR game and we play it for OUR people. If they want to see it, then maybe they should do what ESPN does with some the foreign tennis matches that are on at around 3:30 AM EST and play them again during the day. Use that same technique over there if it is to be broadcast at a decent time. You don't move the time stateside to accomodate people who have FAR less interest in the game compared to the people who are absolutely RAVENOUS for the game that live RIGHT IN AMERICA. Again, this reiterates the T&R from earlier this year about moving a Super Bowl overseas: it is stupid. The NFL doesn't play the game on the big game on Monday's for the simple fact of people are usually busy on a Monday doing work, school, etc. Sunday? Nope...just church or sleeping...

College is very different from the NFL (and, in my opinion, not nearly as good as the NFL) so why should the NFL follow the example of an inferior league? It shouldn't as it would be sheer lunacy. No accomodating foreigners and no following college example.

College football is played on Saturdays. The NFL should never play on Saturdays, or for that manner any day except Sunday and Monday, and on Thanksgiving Thursday. Likewise, College Football should never play on any day except on Sunday, excluding the bowl season.

No. Then Super Bowl Monday will never become a national holiday and it won't be a 3 day weekend. I need that 3 day weekend like I got last year and this year (thank you girls soccer. If 7 of the players didn't show up at the football game high, they may not have won state)

I do not know, I agree about the HW thing, you people do realize the super bowl is in a week and a half. I say let the game be played on Sunday but maybe start it around 6
so the whole thing could be over around 10.

January 26, 2008  12:07 AM ET

Uh, pittfan, the game usually starts around 6:15 PM...so it usually ends around 10:30 to 11:00 PM

January 26, 2008  12:10 AM ET

I'd miss the entire game, working on the west coast Ben.

So glad they tailor everything for the Right Coast...(aka East Coast).

No...
