Pierre McGuire

Bryant Gumble

- Pierre McGuire
"Tsn Hockey analyst"
He sits between benches adding his two cents after ever play and interrupts the commentary of the game. and it makes no sense what so ever,
During a World Junior game between Canada and Sweden (the first one)
he said this "After last game, I received 2 emails from assitant GM???s who have said that they are now siding with me on the 2 line pass.???.
Its a world junior game god-dammit, there has never been a rule in the IIHF about 2 line passes, and the rule was already passed in the nhl 2 years previously,
"I miss Jim Van Horne. Wherever you are Jim???please come back"
He said this to Jim Horne's replacement in the middle of a hockey game between the Leafs and the Ducks,
The useless random facts - I don???t care what players had for breakfast, or at the age of 6 somebody got their first pair of skates. i dont care... all i care about is the darn hockey game, i don't want to hear about what this Sundin does on wends day in the middle of a god-dam hockey game, he called Alexie Kovalev, Mr. Continent and said he works like a mouse in lab coat, i mean ****..

Gumble is completely clueless, and instead of covering a junior hockey game he covered the Patriots Giants game as well as the Cowboys Packers game.

Gumble is not only maybe the most boring person I have ever head talk he also seems like he is trying to impress people. He uses the largest words he can find, I swear he spends half the game with his nose in a Thesaurus.

Gumble's football knowledge is about that of a 12 year old. He wasn't the kid to get picked last growing up, he was the kid that other kids were willing to play a man short to avoid dealing with.

He has 0 business announcing games, and to top that off he announces the biggest sport in America, and covered some of the biggest games of the season. Still people wonder why the demand to see the games on the NFL network is down. I would rather watch paint dry than listen to this tool pretend that he knows something about football.

Bryant Gumble at least has a sense of whats going on , and for the 0 business announcing games, he was hired was he not.. i dont have a problem with him, i would rather watch him the some clueless guy like Pierre McGuire, at leasthe knows what he is talking about,
oh... another great McGuire quote was when a player from Russia took a dive during a game vs Canada a few years back and McGuire quipped: "Now there's the personification of an embellishment!... i just looked at the tv and started to laugh ... when he commentates the Habs games he cant pronounce there names he calls the goalie (Hew-ett) .. its pronounced (Hu-eh) and he thinks he knows the game,,,
Here are some quotes,
-
"If you hit a player with your stick, in International Hockey, the referee will call a penalty" (No s#!t)
- He started doing circus music, and says this is a circus and the ring leaders are not doing there jobs
-They gotta start calling diving on these guys, they're going down faster than free beer at a frat party."

And this one takes the cake

- "You should see Shawn Belle in his underclothes, I mean these guys are men. They're not kids anymore. Belle definately has better body than ANY NFL player

People in the US don't watch hockey, it is right up there with the LPGA as far as popularity. So #1, this is where you are going to get awful announcers, and #2 his quotes that explain the rules of the sport are for the people that are maybe watching Hockey for the first time, or do not completely understand the rules.

The fact that most people have never even heard of your guy shows that he isn't quite the big deal that you are making him out to be.

Gumble on the other hand has called 2 of the biggest NFL games of this entire season, one of which turned out to be a preview of the Super Bowl. He bored MILLIONS of people across the country.

Both guys were hired, so I don't know what you are getting at there. I would expect more insight into a pre-game than "Well it's thanksgiving so it should be a good game" in the most popular sport in this country.

Gumble shows us all that you can NOT just throw anybody up in the booth. If the NFLN wants to attract viewers in the future they will replace this guy and hire someone that has actually watched a game before he gets the job.

Bryant Gumble the worst? OK Schwarz, you're gonna have to convince me before I give you my vote.

January 26, 2008  03:05 PM ET

Dick Stocton is the the only right answer. No other announcer has ever called athletes the wrong name as much as he has.

January 26, 2008  03:10 PM ET

Gumble ACTUALLY put me to sleep during the Colts Falcons game this season.

i love hockey!!
I hate tsn
...is that y..
nfl network ftw!!

January 26, 2008  03:28 PM ET

I've never seen this TSN guy, but that underclothes comment seems pretty bad.

January 26, 2008  03:35 PM ET

Ah Schwarz - your last argument does it.

I've been playing NHL 08 alot lately. A lot of the rules I don't understand much cause I don't know hockey. A hockey announcer is obliged to explain some things when doing his job.

If I had time I could probably think of somebody I hate worse than Gumbel, but for this TD you have my vote.

January 26, 2008  03:39 PM ET

I really don't like Kirk Heibstreight, or however you spell that Ohio State fruit-cup's name...

January 26, 2008  03:39 PM ET

I hear you Thugmeister, playing hockey video games it took me forever to completly understand offsides and icing, I still don't completly understand why, but I know the rules now at least.

January 26, 2008  03:40 PM ET

yes detfan, but you don't like him b/c he played for OSU.

I hate Madden, but his coaching the Raiders may have had something to do with that.

January 26, 2008  03:51 PM ET

Madden definitely. States the obvious. They only keep him on because once a game he says something funny.

January 26, 2008  04:03 PM ET

madden is crazy in both senses of the word
