the sec has surpassed georgia

"the sec has surpassed georgia. they need a spark, not some pocket qb."
This is a comment by my friend edubb on the wall of another throw down. He recently posted a blog about the top 10 QB's returning next season, and Matt Stafford wasn't on that list. I do agree that his stats last season left something to be desired, but that was last season. From other users' comments, mainly from Mandel's conference rankings, people usually include UGA in their SEC power teams. I could back that up if I can get into that forum again. Besides, there a things called rebuilding years, and UGA experienced one last season and still went 9-4.

From my count, 5/12 of SEC schools have option QB's (Tebow, Woodson, Schaefer, Nickson, and McFadden if you include Houston Nutt's wildcat offense). Another pocket QB seems to be the norm as opposed to the answer for SEC schools.

Listen when is the last time you ever heard anyone talk about Georgia being a title contender. Florida, Arkansas, Lsu, Tennesse, Auburn. How long are they gonna rebuild? I admit they are a good team. But they have been surpassed by other teams talent and wins. If Caleb King doesn't develop, its back to rebuilding? If Stafford stinks it up again, its back to rebuilding? Georgia historically has had a scrambler, they need another one, and logan grey has the speed to be one.

UGA was in the title hunt in 2004 and 2005. Granted, 2004 was Auburn's year, but there was a lot of preseason talk about Georgia. The dawgs went undefeated until the end of October in 2005 also, and that was only b/c Shockley got hurt. You can't assume a talent is not going to develop, especially if they're ranked real high. But even if I do concede that, Knowshon Moreno will pick up that slack.David Greene and Eric Zeir are probably the two most famous uga QB's, and they were both pocket passers.

I was pointing out that you guys have been rebuilding forever. Mark Richt was a good pick up at coach. They do have talent coming in. But it is going to be another year because they have no receiving core to go with their offensive problems. The whole core had 4 tds last year. 4 TDS WITH A DROP-BACK PASSER. He stunk it up, he was only a fresh, but if Georgia is supposed to be big dogs in the sec, then he has got to throw atleast 10 tds, not 7. Juice threw 9 on one of the nations worst teams. Not only touchdowns, but he only had a 52 pct passer rating.

2005 was supposed to be a rebuilding year, but we ended up winning the SEC. We choked in 2004. 2003 was rebuilding, and 2002 was an SEC title also. We haven't been rebuilding for too long judging by the number of SEC titles brought back to Athens.

The receivers were our weak point, but they are one year older and wiser who know their QB even better.

I do agree that it will be another year before UGA is a title contender, but I mean national title. This next year we can definitely compete for the SEC. I've been saying that we're going to beat UF, but UT might prove trickier.

The receivers aren't gonna get any better. Sean Bailey was out all last year with a severe injury and he was already nothing to write home about, and Mikey Henderson is a 150 pounds soaking wet. Just 150 and hes starting in the SEC, not good. It won't be good until Aj green arrives. They do have talent coming in, but they always have talent coming in. They need "That Guy". They have never had "That guy". Not since Champ. They have no one who will knock your socks off like these other schools in the SEC have.

I would add "Not" to the title. It sounds like you think Georgia is surpassed in the title but you don't think they are in the argument.

Regardless here is my take, As you can tell I'm a Gator. Georgia is certainly NOT surpassed by the SEC. Florida, Georgia, Tennesse, LSU, and Auburn are currently the cream of the crop in the SEC. South Carolina, Arkansas, and Alabama are also fairly good but haven't shown consistency. I see no reasont o believe Georgia won't be in the Top 3 of the SEC East. And Stafford looked pretty good un his first season and should continue to improve. If I was predicting the East this season I'd go UF, UT, UGA but it wouldn't surprise me if UGA finished better then that.

yes, i was trying to quote him, but it does look weird.

I tend to agree with you on the rankings. UF and UT have a lot of talent, but UGA relishes the role of underdog.

georgia will be on top of the sec sometime during staffords stay at georgia

and dont take that idiots rankings too seriously

croden, if you don't want people to look at my rankings, don't stalk my page, you've been dying for the rankings to come out, thats why you just commented first. I'm sorry i couldn't put stafford near the top 10, hes a bum. I had one questionable call due to the guys talent. the rest of my rankings are garbage? i've gotten some props, but the only glitch is Juice. I can't go back now can I. He is talented and will put up mediocre numbers again. Doesn't mean hes not a good qb. Just means he is the new Randle EL. He is good, his team sucks.

Georgia has a history of scrambling QBs? I know they Shockley was a runner but our QB for 4 years (Green) was a pocket passer.

ward, carter

top college receiver rankings are out, check the blog.

a 52 percent completion rate

We can pit Ward, Carter, and Shockley up against Zeir, Greene, and Stafford. In my opinion, more productivity came out of the pocket passers.
I can look up winning percentages for these guys, but I'm too lazy right now, manyana.

Richt has even produced 2 heisman QB's that were both pocket passers. His offense is oriented more towards pocket QB's.

BTW, I appreciate your position rankings and effort. Thanks for throwin down man.

edubbs, i wasnt stalking your page jackass. it just so happened when i got on the computer, it was on the most recent blog list. and i dont think stafford belongs in the top 10 either. he hasnt earned it yet. and stop with juice williams, i dont know why you love the guy, but he aint that good...

rriiiiigggghhhhhhhhhttttt croden. BTW, how many times are you gonna call me a name in the span of a day? If the rankings are too harsh for your eyes, stay off them, you know you can't though, its good stuff, like i said i made one questionable call on the quarterbacks, thats it! How good do you think ainge is gonna be? He lost meachem and he accounted for pretty much everything ainge did. there is a lot of toss ups after booty. I plan on updating these rankings every week throughout the season. the right moves will be made, the rankings will be sound as the season closes out. Give me a season before you start grilling me. My rb rankings are solid, and so are my receivers. i got a few naysayers on the bennett pick also, i think three of them.

i keep calling you names b/c you keep saying things about me. and who said anything about eric ainge?

Yeah, they really haven't had "that guy" in a while even tho the talent has been coming in, but they've managed to hold their own in my opinion. A team doesn't need that guy like Calvin. He was/is the best receiver, but the poor guy was drug down by his team (mainly his QB). You can still win without one spectacular athlete, just a bunch of good ones.

Report Offensive Comment

Well what happens when Arkansas, Florida, Bama, fricking Vanderbilt!!!, Kentucky, and Lsu all have good ones plus that guy? You don't contend for the sec title. They hold their own but they are always mediocre, and the only way they win is if the sec is on a down year. Well this is their year and they don't have the talent to do it. Next years lineup on offense for the bulldogs is looking sweet with qb gray, knowshon moreno and caleb king in the backfield, and aj green at receiver, BUT florida and LSU will always be ahead. You got me on this one though, its over barring a miracle.

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah, well, we'll see man. That would be a sweet backfield. You don't think Stafford will become that guy, but I disagree with you. I am biased in my opinions b/c of my alma matter. So I guess we can agree to disagree.

This season will be interesting b/c the SEC is getting so much press. Before, people were saying that the SEC is overrated and they were always trying to prove themselves, but after UF whooped OSU, people's opinions have changed and now SEC teams might get complacent. From what I've seen recently, SEC teams usually do much better without press on them or they choke with a lot of press time, e.g. Arkansas, Kentucky, Auburn(2003), Georgia (2004), Tennessee (2005). I bet the OOC games will be real interesting this year.
