He threatened to kill his wife and kids. How can someone get away with that? The MLB has done nothing in these types of situations and it's time for them to take a stand. Besides Dukes, there are a few others who should be punished as well: Julio Mateo (Seattle) hit his wife, Alberto Callaspo (Arizona) hit his wife, Brett Myers (Phillies) punched his wife, along with Dmitri Young and Julio Lugo. These players are getting away with this crap and it needs to be stopped. It says its okay to do this if they don't press charges.

The MLB should not have to do anything to these players and they most certainly should not suspend them from MLB. That would be doing to these players what the MLB did to Pete Rose. So basically you would like to have Elijah Dukes and others suspended from the game. Now maybe I'm misunderstanding you and your saying they should be suspended for "x" amount of games. Well the MLB cant suspend a player for incidents that happen off-field and unrelated to their playing. Assualt charges should be addressed by law enforcement only. Besides the MLB suspending or banning these players from the MLB doesnt solve their problems. Just because they are suspended or banned doesnt mean that they wont continue to harrass or assualt their family/wives.

I said suspend, not kick out, misuderstanding. I'm talking maybe 10-25 games depending on the situation. You're right, the law can handle it, but by letting these players play it sends a message that it's okay if the women don't press charges. If they continue to do it, then they should suffer huge penalties. These players are getting away with domestic violence and the MLB is condoning it. These players need to be punished, otherwise it will continue and hurt the image of the game.

First off, I did talk about suspesions. Second off, if the women dont want to press charges that is their choice. Third, the MLB isnt or doesnt look like it is condoning domestic violence. I dont believe that these few cases is hurting the image of the game. The MLB is not responsible for a players actions. In most cases the MLB is not in power to suspend a player for these kinds of actions.

I know you did, I was just clarifying my arguement. The MLB has the right to suspend a player for "just cause". Threatening to kill your family or hitting them isn't "just cause", but a pitcher throwing at a batter is "just cause" for a four game suspension? I don't think so. The MLB needs to be more like the NFL, the players can't be acting out like this and when they do they should be punished. Even the D-Rays owner said he was going to cut Dukes, so obviously he had a problem with it, so why doesn't the MLB.
CJBOSOX said 05/29, 06:23 PM
The MLB DOES have a problem with it, they would like to do something about it. However there is one small problem, that rule that says a suspension for "just cause" in MLB also states that a player can be suspended for a "just cause" on the field. This rule only covers on-the-field actions. Your "just cause" rule doesnt pan out for you because it doesnt involve incidents that occur off the field.

Report Offensive Commentsorry there Cardsox....are you a Cardinals fan and a Sox fan?
CJBOSOX | 05/29/07, 05:57 PM
Report Offensive CommentI agree. I like the NFL's policy. Thugs shouldn't be allowed to continue to make millions. Punish them by taking away the game they love and hurt them in their paycheck.

Report Offensive CommentIt is a true fact that the MLB cant suspend a player under that circumstance. That was wat i am trying to say
CJBOSOX | 05/29/07, 07:54 PM
Report Offensive CommentYeah, both. I go primarily for Boston, but I'm from a Cardinals family so I go for them almost as much, too. Made the '04 WS kind of tough for me lol.
Cardsox | 05/29/07, 07:57 PM
Report Offensive CommentHow sure are you that that is what the rule states, CJ? Is that a fact or just an assumption?
Cardsox | 05/29/07, 08:15 PM
Report Offensive CommentThat is actually a fact. I looked it up.
CJBOSOX | 05/29/07, 08:19 PM
Report Offensive CommentWhere did you look it up? Just would like to know. Because I have read in two articles you can be suspended for any actions.
RedSoxManiac | 05/29/07, 08:41 PM
Report Offensive CommentWell a team can suspend a player but the MLB Organization can't. Sow it online somewhere a while back
CJBOSOX | 05/29/07, 08:52 PM
Report Offensive CommentI said the team thought about suspending him, but decided not to because the owner thought if they did he might actually do it.
