I would have to take Chris Paul. He has taken a mediocre hornets team and made them the surprise of the west. They play in a tough conferance along the Spurs, Mavs, Rockets, and Grizzlies. Chris Paul has shown he can lead a team of so so players. Without Paul, Tyson Chandler, David West and Peja would not be the players they have become this season. Chris Paul is the gel that keeps the machine moving. Much like Nash of the Suns, Chris Paul is unselfish and is a pass first PG that is becoming a rare type of player. Kobe Bryant could also be talked about being the greatest this season but we always expect greatness from Bryant. Paul has drastically improved this season.

Paul
2007-08 - PPG 20.6, APG 10.7
06-07 - PPG 17.3, APG 8.9
05-06 - PPG 16.1, APG 7.8

His scoring has gone up, his dimes have gone up. Thus the wins in New Orleans are climbing. His shooting percentages have all increased over the past 3 seasons as well. Chris Paul is a lock for the NBA all star game. I am a Deron Williams fan but Paul is doing a lot with a weaker team. Props to Paul!

I hate doing this, but.......

Kobe Bryant. This is sort of funny and ironic at the same time: Our picks were both drafted first round by the Hornets.

Wow, I actually typed it. That was hard.

But, as for your argument, just because you're the most improved, dosen't mean you're the best. There's an award for most improved: Most Inproved Player. Usually, MIP isn't the best player, but, in this case, you can make a case.

But, I think Kobe is still better. Data analysis:

PPG: KB- 27.9; CP3- 20.6.

RPG: KB- 6.2; CP3- 4.0.

APG: KB- 5.1; CP3- 10.7.

BPG: KB- .45; CP3- .05.

MPG: KB- 37.3; CP3- 37.3.

FG%: KB- .449; CP3-.480.

3PT%; KB- .349; CP3- .350.

20 PT, 5 ast, 5 reb games: KB- 17; CP3-8.

So, with the data analysis, you can tell that KB is a better player statisically, and, as you can see by the last set of data, KB looks like the better all around player.our turn. Good luck.

You bring up the point of scoring but you never mention that Chris Paul is a PG, he is supposed to get others involved if you didnt know. He is a pass first guard. Kobe is the number one scoring option on his team so of course his numbers will be higher. Now that brings up a point, Paul shoots a higher FG%. Why did you not bring up the FT%. So with your own data analysis i can see that Chris Paul is the best in the west so far this season. You cant just compare points when you take a SG and a PF because Chris Paul destroys Kobe on his assists, like he should, but Chris is unselfish and gets others involved.

Paul is in the running for MVP, so is Kobe. The reason the improvement will help him is simple, it draws attention. Why does Jerry Sloan never get Coach of the Year, last year his team returns to the frickin playoffs and goes to the western finals, still gets snuffed. They expect it, the surprise helps.

We already knew what Kobe is and what he would do and he is one of the best players but Chris Paul's Hornets have a better record, they are in a tougher division, and he is doing more with less (the lakers have a better roster but somehow the hornets are playing better).

Okay, only comparing PPG? I compared:

PPG

RPG

APG

BPG

MPG

FG%

3PT%

and 20 point, 5 rebound, 5 assist games.

My bad for running out of characters to use!

Okay, destroys in assists? Yeah, sure, but I'll use your argument here: Kobe destroys Chris in PPG like he should. Paul a PG, he's supposed to pass. KB's a SG, he's supposed to shoot! And he also hits the boards, has more all-around games, and blocks much more.

Plus, he's .1, 3 point percentage left with much more attempts.

Okay, and as for your second paragraph, this is about the best player, not the most hyped and talked about.(Which, Kobe wins)

"The Lakers have a better roster". Yeah right. Kobe has Lamar Odom. That's it. Chris has Peja, Tyson, and David West. That's 2 more legitimate players. 60% percent players on the Lakers starters are bad(Bynum isn't really good), and 20% on the Hornets starters are bad. 40% differencial.

Okay, your turn.

Thanks for waiting 23 hours, if you waited one more you would of lost your turn.

Ok i was being sarcastic about your catergories. If you understood basketball better than a 10 year old then you would understand that because Kobe is a SG of course he is going to get more rebounds than Chris Paul, Paul is a PG so he is going to dish the ball more. You cant really compare the stats because there roles on the teams are totally different.

Point being is that if Chris Paul was taken off the Hornets the whole team would fall apart and would start losing a ton of games. But if Kobe was taken off the Lakers they would still be an allright team... You would still have Odom, Fisher, Bynum, Farmar... they wouldnt be a playoff threat like now but they would still win a few games. Without Chris Paul the hornets suck, bad.

You say Kobe has Lamar Odom and thats it, did you even hear about the Derek Fisher Transaction that happened over the summer. He was a big reason the Jazz were good and a BIGGER REASON WHY THE LAKERS HAVE RETURNED AS A PLAYOFF CONTENDER. Andrew Bynum is amazing this year and Jordan Farmar is playing really great. Luke Walton would start on most teams!

Okay, so you're saying Bynum is good?

So the following stats are good, according to you:

13.1 PPG

10.2 RPG(Jason Kidd averages more than that, and Bynum's a center, that's the position that averages those types of rebounds,AVERAGES!)

1.7 APG(That's just horrible, even for a center)

Dereck Fisher:

12.4 PPG

2.2 RPG

3.0 APG-As a PG!

Jordan Farmar:

9.8 PPG

2.4 RPG

2.9 APG

Not exactly "really great".

So, Kobe and Lamar are basically the only pretty good starters on the Lakers, and they're challenging the Suns! The Hornets have 4 pretty good starters.

Thank you for reading, have a good day, vote wisely.

nice, so you vote for yourself and make a big comment about it, thats really lame. We will let the arguments decide that.

Chris Paul vs. Kobe Bryant. Lopsided win to the right anyday.

I mentioned Kobe in my argument but its to easy to just say Kobe Bryant, so i went for a player that actually deserves the attention. A guy that has been busting his butt and got his team to Number 1 in the L. The Hornets are not that good but Paul is making them alot better then they really are. Kobe is doing the same thing he does every year,

January 30, 2008  07:18 AM ET

I didn't just compare ppg; I compared 7 other categories! Did you read my whole argument?!

January 30, 2008  06:34 PM ET

Did you really say Bynum isnt really that good. Have you watched a Laker game this year?

January 30, 2008  07:28 PM ET

Forget the players personal statistics. The Hornets have to best record in the West. Chris Paul has single handedly elevated this team to another level. And I'll bet neither of you can name another player on that team. The Lakers success is the result of Andrew Bynum's emergence. Kobe isn't doing anything different than usual. In their last 5 games without Bynum, the Lakers have lost to Dallas, San Antonio and Cleveland. Without Bynum, they're a .500 team, and a 1st round out.

January 30, 2008  07:57 PM ET

The hornets landed morris peterson over the summer and that sucked for us jazz fans. But karma strikes back because we landed kyle korver and if the jazz would of got mo pete they never would of got kyle korver. Thanks New Orleans.

I still cant believe dwade82697sssc thinks Bynum is no good.

January 30, 2008  08:06 PM ET

dwade82697--Bynum is out now. How are they doing without him?

January 30, 2008  08:21 PM ET

Gotta go to the left on this one... MVP elevates play of all those around him...

January 31, 2008  12:10 PM ET

I didn't wait 23 hours. Sorry for having a life. My bad.
