That Minor League manager's tirade was the greatest ever.

Honestly, I'll bet he was planning that for a while. First covering the plate completely in dirt, then the army crawl and grenade toss of the rosin bag. Minor League baseball is all about entertainment and, ladies and gentleman, it doesn't get any better than that.

He should try and do something like that every game. Or the Yankees should hire him. They need something to bring in fans, since nobody wants to see a losing team.

Although the Braves' Manager, Phillip Wellman's, tirade was very entertaining to watch. The greatest tirade was done by Joe Mkulik.

Here's the link so you can watch it:

The guy seems sincerely raged out the whole time like he really hates the call. Phillip Wellman was just putting on a show w/ the grenade thing, but that's a show I loved seeing.

That was great, too. Here's a Wellman link for you.

Good stuff. I like how he came running up throwing his hat. The rosin bag "exploding" in front of the umpire was nice too.

I just don't think that Wellman's was the best b/c he kinda copyied Mikulik. Wellman did the base lift and threw the rosin bag like MIkulik. Wellman put creative spins on those, but Wellman didn't throw any bats out of the dugout or pour water on home plate.

The base lift/toss is much older than that. I remember an MLB manager, Lloyd McClendon, IIRC do that when he managed the Pirates. And I swear to god, I hadn't scrolled down and saw that a few guys picked up on that. Swear.

The bat throwing was absent, but a very nice grenade toss. I wonder if Wellman served in 'Nam. No, but he also tried to eject the umps. That gets him some points in my book.

Heh, trying to eject the umps is good; I saw that motion but wondered what that was about.

Basically, I think Wellman's tirade was too similar to Mikulik's, and Wellman made more of a show out of it, which ruins it a little for me b/c it doesn't seem as real. I don't like his salute at the end.

Phillip Wellman was taking notes from Joe Mikulik.

June 4, 2007  02:24 PM ET

Both were comedy gold.

June 4, 2007  02:50 PM ET

wow what were they smoking? 5 stars for both

June 4, 2007  02:58 PM ET

Sorry, I've got to go with Wellman. How can you pass up a guy who tosses a rosin grenado?

June 4, 2007  03:25 PM ET

Lol both were pretty great but mikulik was more original he was first... .. the grenado was nice though

June 4, 2007  03:36 PM ET

meh. It was amusing, but now you are going to just have managers trying to one up each other. Arguing with the ump is one thing, turning it into a theatrical production is going a little far to me

June 4, 2007  03:36 PM ET

he stole the taking the base part from lloyd mclendon

June 4, 2007  03:45 PM ET

Lloyd mclendon eh? It doesn't surprise me that somebody did it before.

"Yankees should hire him. They need something to bring in fans, since nobody wants to see a losing team. "

Because they ALWAYS struggle to fill up Yankee Stadium. You Mets fans crack me up sometimes.

Can u say Rambo

The grenade was hilarious, but when I first saw Wellmans, I said to my dad, "that's not new that happened a long time ago" because the acts are virtually identical. My vote goes to Wellman though, because of the rosen bag/hand grenade.

June 4, 2007  04:31 PM ET

I like the first one more, but the second was the better tirade.

June 4, 2007  05:29 PM ET

Also-
Mikulik argued a out/safe call. A big call.

Wellman was pissed from a ball call. A little more trivial=more points in my book.

June 5, 2007  10:29 AM ET

What was wellman's bad call about? I never get to see it b/c it always starts up w/ him running up to the ump.
