Pick 1st, argue 2nd and 3rd.

NFC West

AFC East
(wait and see why)

ok. heres the nfc west:

seattle seahawks:10-6
arizona cardinals:8-8
san Fransisco 49ers:5-11
st louis rams:3-13

the seahawks are a decent team, but lets be real here. they'll win their division (which is the weakest in football) for the next few years simply because of that reason. their record is inflated because they get at least 4 free wins a year out of their division. the cardinals had a decent year, but theyre ranked 29th in the nfl in rushing offense. sure, their passing offense is good, but every year theyre picked as a sleeper and every year they disappoint. the 49ers are, to be frank, pathetic. they were 32nd in pass offense, points, and total offense, and only 27th in run offense. the only thing this team had was frank gore, and now hes not performing. sure, theyve got patrick willis, but a MLB cant turn their offense around, and in this league you need to score some points. the rams.....wow. they won their first game in week 10. not exactly a contender. their best players were injured this year, and their best players also happen to be quite old. that team isnt going anywhere fast.

the divisions made up of 1 playoff contender, one marginal team, and two duds.

Lets see here, you have not one but TWO potential playoff teams in the NFC West.

Arizona's 8-8 mark was only 1 win short of a playoff spot, and that was with their #2 QB!

Here is why the AFC East is by far the worst around.

AFC East teams not from NE records outside of the division.

Buf- 3-7
NYJ- 2-8
Mia- 1-9

As I see it every division has a great team, in this division it was NE. So outside of the Pats this division drops straight to the cellar.

Add in this
Pats vs. AFC East- won games by an average of 25.5 points,
Pats vs. Rest of the NFL- won games by an average of 13.7 points.

No wonder the Pats went undefeated. They got 6 free wins. No other team was even .500 in this division. I mean the closest a team came to their top squad was 10 points.

The NFC West has a fairly bright future, St. Louis and San Fran were supposed to be contenders, they should right that ship. As for the AFC East, well that 6-24 mark against other divisions pretty much says it all.

you have two potential playoff teams in the afc east as well.

NE went 18-1, got to the super bowl, and is looking bretty strong for next year. the bills had a good year with a rookie QB and a rookie RB, and had both their starting corners, in addition to half of their linebacking corps, out the entire season with injuries. with all this going on they still ended up in a decent place, contending for the playoffs until the end of the season. the jets, while abysmal this year, are one year off of a wild-card berth. im not even gonna mention the dolphins record, but to be honest id take the dolphins over st louis. the rams were AWFUL this year, so was san fran. i dont know how san fran won 5 games, but if you think theyre gona right that **** youre out of your mind. their quarterback hasnt progressed, hes gotten worse if anything! if alex smith starts for that team again next year they wont go anywhere.

The AFC East had 2 potential playoff teams? Where? If sitting 3 to 4 games out of a playoff spot in the NFL is a "potential playoff team" then almost every team in the League is a playoff team.

Now your ranting about this team and that is fine and dandy, but the truth is that the AFC East could only muster wins against their own division. I mean outside of NE this ENTIRE DIVISION won 6 NON CONFERENCE GAMES!! 6 wins out of 30 non conference games. I mean it doesn't get worse than that.

Now I'm not knocking Seattle or New England, truth is every division had a worthy division champion. But outside of NE this division dropped right off. I mean the #2 team had a 3-7 record outside of the division.

The rest of your argument is pretty much just some long rant, so I don't know what else to tell you here.

what about NFC South?

February 9, 2008  05:08 PM ET

the South had 3 teams that were contending for playoffs spots

congrats on 100 wins

AFC East? Patriots speak for themselves. The Buffalo Bills are one of the hottest up and coming teams.

Jets & Dolphins aren't great but if we're looking into '08...AFC East isn't the weakest division.

The AFC West has been pretty weak last year as well. It used to be the one of the best divisions a decade or so ago. Other than the Chargers, the rest of the teams in that divison are mediocre or below it. Much to my chagrin, because I am a KC Chiefs fan.

Dolphins lost quite a few games by 3 points or less so I don't think they are quite as horrible as their record says.

February 9, 2008  05:27 PM ET

plus the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins each had to play the Patriots twice so figure that into their records.

thanks Duquesne

NWPA- Just wait for the Arguments, trust me I looked at each division

Umm... they were as bad as their record says, by your logic the Pats don't completly lose the Super Bowl, it was only a 3 point loss, right?

February 9, 2008  05:50 PM ET

I hate these "Statement 1st, argue later" TD's, people vote before you even get a chance to say anything

February 9, 2008  05:56 PM ET

ill wait for the arguments... to hard to pick now.

February 9, 2008  06:20 PM ET

both divisons stink, but AFC is much worse

February 9, 2008  06:42 PM ET

It's not the Bills' faults! The Pats ruined their self esteem...j/k

Wasn't Buffalo a game or two out of the playoffs as well BS?

February 10, 2008  10:18 AM ET

DJ- 3 Games back of a playoff spot (4 really b/c Cle went 10-6 and didn't make the playoffs), 3 or 4 games, either way that is a HUGE gap, so no the Bills were not that clost to the playoffs.

February 10, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Ah ok thanks. Just making sure.

it's cool DJ, I mean I can pretend they were close since they had the same record as my Broncos, but we would all know I'm just kidding myself. jk
