After an awesome season this past year... things are only looking up. Chase Daniel will be here for his senior season and he should continue to be a heisman front runner. Jeremy Maclin is approaching his 2nd season and should be here for at least his Junior season before going pro. The defense is young and maturing, while the offense's main guys are going to be here for at least 1 more year.

Plus, there is the recruiting we have going on. Mizzou just signed the second best QB in the NATION according to Rivals.com. Rivals rated him a 6 out of 6 star recruit.

"franchise Player; one of the elite prospects in the country; excellent pro potential; face of any program"
"Blaine dominated at the EA Sports Elite 11 Camp... he has all the tools to lead his program to CHAMPIONSHIPS"

That is how Rivals (the leading recruiting website out there) described him. He isnt the only great player we have signed. There is also Dan Hoch, an OL out of Iowa.

"Dan is an All-American candidate; major prospect; one of the nation's top lineman; pro potential and ability to make an impact on his college team; A++"

The list of great recruits we signed goes on and on. MU is here to stay.

Im not sure what it is you want me to argue?
Am I supposed to say "No they won't" and argue that ?
Or do I say, pick Kansas or Texas as a better bet to be a top team for years to come? What do you define as a top team for years to come?
First define top and then define how many years?
For the next 2 years? possibly the next 2 - maybe 3.
Lets not forget the conference they're in.
The Big 12 isnt exactly the SEC
Kansas was 12-1 , Mizzou 12-2 last season and yep, Kansas lost to Mizzou but that was the onlyreason they got into the bowl game. Had Kansas won, another year would go by without the Cotton Bowl.
Lets look at their seasons since joining the Big 12
1996 5-6-0
1997 7-5-0
1998 8-4-0
1999 4-7-0
2000 3-8-0
2001 4-7-0
2002 5-7-0
2003 8-5-0
2004 5-6-0
2005 7-5-0
2006 8-5-0
2007 12-2-02
Not very consistent with being a top team. 2007 was their best season ever.
They've won one Big 12 championship since joining the big XLII in 1996. And prior to joining the Big 12, the last time they won a conference title was in 1969 while in the Big 8 and that was as a co-champion and a 9-2 rec.

I meant being a consistent top 25 team for the next, lets say, five years. Mizzou had a great season and looking at what they have and what is coming up... they will only get better. Also, looking at your records you gave... we are consistently getting better every year. The last 5 seasons we have only had ONE season below .500. Again I will move to recruiting. Other than the guys that I already said, we have:

Andrew Jones TE (6'5" of muscle)
Kenji Jackson DB
Wes Kemp WR
and many others who could certainly do the job

for 2009:
Jordan Webb QB (nation's passing yards leader, as well as 4th in nation's TDs)
Kerwin Stricker WR/RB/DB (asked to go out for olympics for track FASTER THAN MACLIN... woah)

I could do this all day but the fact is that the future of Mizzou is finally here and we are finally contenders. I may lose this TD but I will laugh when Mizzou starts winning games in big chunks. LOL

I'm unsure how you can claim Mizzou to be a top 25 program. Even in your own conference you arent one of the top programs. Let alone the rest of the NCAA conferences. As for one season below 500 the last 5 years? How does 4 seasons of barely over .500 make it a top program? If you had 5 consistent seasons of 12-2 , then your argument might hold some merit. Mizzou has had one good year in the last 12 since joining the Big 12. The team has been some awesome recruitment and building of an excellent team that can play with the big kids. This was a one and done season. They were ranked #1 for the first time in 2007 after beating KU. That was the 1st time in almost 50 yrs and only the second time ever. Even if we go back another 10 years, it clearly shows a definite lack of domination.
1986 3-8-0
1987 5-6-0
1988 3-7-1
1989 2-9-0
1990 4-7-0
1991 3-7-1
1992 3-8-0
1993 3-7-1
1994 3-8-1
1995 3-8-0
Mizzou isnt even one of the top 3 in its own Conference. How is it going to be one of the top 25 in all of Div 1 ? They can't even put together 5 consecutive winning seasons! Let alone dominate 5 years?

I am not talking about the past, dumbshit. I even said in the topic that Mizzou will continue to be a top program. Meaning that they will continue what they started this past year. #4 in the Nation after the season finished. Quite frankly, your arguements make no sence. Again, the past means sh-t. We are talking about the next 5 years.... wow

February 12, 2008  02:03 PM ET

Are they considered a top program now?

February 12, 2008  02:15 PM ET

OK
we're talking football here right? Cause I know NOTHING about Mizzou. NOTHING. Zero.
Gonna have to wait on my argument until I can actually go read up on them.

One year wonder says I. So is Kansas. Just give Bo and Dan time and Nebraska and Colorado will be the Kings of the North again.

February 12, 2008  02:24 PM ET

I just gave you an argument KP.

Minor point- rivals.com awards up to 5 stars. It'd be tough to be a six star guy.

J Hova.. Great minds think alike. I just said it differently than you...lol

February 12, 2008  03:42 PM ET

that should be XXII not XLII - apparently Im not quite over the SB thing.

February 12, 2008  03:42 PM ET

man I am stupid today
XII .....lol

February 12, 2008  04:23 PM ET

You have to say it differently then I did. It would be plagiarism or something like that.

Of course KP gets my vote.

February 12, 2008  05:03 PM ET

Thanks J Jova
Im hoping for a good second argument.
He's a good TDer based on his record.
so Im sure he will have more than a couple players to support the theory

February 12, 2008  06:17 PM ET

Mizzou has no proven track record of recruiting...how can you make that stement?

February 12, 2008  07:31 PM ET

I have seen a lot of "great" recruiting classes fail. If these guys do not pan out, then how can you be in the Top 25 for years to come?

Didn't Miami have some great classes? What about Florida State? Tennessee? Remember them??

February 12, 2008  08:13 PM ET

stantheman, we had an awesome season this year and we have a great coach. that is what the recruits look for dude...

February 12, 2008  08:14 PM ET

The team has been some awesome recruitment and building of an excellent team that can play with the big kids.

I have no idea how I screwed up that part but it should say that the team has seen some awesome recruitment but they are still not done building an excellent team that can play with the big kids.

I ran out of space and apparently I deleted parts of that sentence instead of the one I was trying to delete.
sorry bout that

February 12, 2008  09:30 PM ET

No way to be sure without knowing their future draft classes and with injuries and such. Vote right.

February 12, 2008  10:09 PM ET

I'm hearing you say the list goes on and you could do this all day...(Git 'er dun) But you only listed 2 solid examples. The rest of the names you have listed are brief and give little value to your argument. It would be great to see Mizzou be competitive again. But I'm not seeing it in your argument.

February 12, 2008  10:30 PM ET

It's very difficult to project success 5 years in advance. What are the chances they will avoid injuries for 5 years? The lure of the NFL can also play a part. What we do know however is what they've done in the past. I see no reason to think that '07 was the start of an era at Mizzou.

Vote to Kp

Im waiting on the 3rd argument. It has been said via FM that I didnt address the current Mizzou roster. My bad, I will do so/
