The Mavericks have just traded Diop, Harris, George, Stackhouse and (2) 1st round draft picks to get Kidd.

They gave up 2 solid role players in Stackhouse and Diop, and Kidd isnt really that much better than Harris to begin with. Plus they completely sacraficed their future on the next 2 seasons.

Tap the brake there buddy.

First off the Mavs get a PG, who is almost averaging a triple double per game the past few weeks WITHOUT TOUCHING THIER TOP THREE PLAYERS:

Dirk
Terry
Howard

Second, if you read the reports, you will find out that the Nets are going to buy out Stacks contract, which will allow him to re-sign with the Mavs 30 days after the trade is made. The mavs get a player who can create shots for everyone on the floor, which will help becase as of lately, the only thing the Mavs have been doing is jacking up 3's.

Third, lets be honest Harris was the 5th pick in the draft. I don't think he is performing to that level and the Mavs believe he is what he is.

Terry is a better player than Harris?

Really?

Cause last I checked, Terry isnt even in their starting lineup.

The guys they gave up average about 30ppg, 10rpg, and 9apg. Thats a lot of stats to make up for Jason Kidd. Especially when he is in his mid-30's. Its also about 86 minutes per game that these guys shared. Who's gonna pick up the slack now? And Kidd isnt really a great scorer by any means.

Oh, and they gave up a decent big guy. The Suns go big by getting Shaq, and the Lakers get bigger by adding Gasol. But the Mavs give up a big to get another pg? How does that make sense?

Oh, and thanks guys for letting me argue my point before voting. I love going into an argument down 14-1.

Kidd was't brought on this team to score and really hasn't had that title for any team he has played on. HE IS THERE TO MAKE THE OTHERS AROUND HIM BETTER. Everyone already knows Kidd is a horrible shooter, but his job is to open the court and make plays for others.

AND FYI Jett Terry plays the #2 spot here in Dallas...not the PG spot like Harris did.

Diop is a nice player, but by no means someone you hold on to when

#1 You have Dampier
#2 Kidd is on the trading block
#3 You are trying to win now

You talk like Diop is all world.

Think about the history of this team the past 3 years...if they didn't go anywhere in the post season this year, the team was going to be dismateled at the end of the season anyway. This trade gives them a better chance to win inthe short run.

Trading a young pg that is putting up 15-5 on 47% shooting and giving up 3 other decent role players along with (2) first rounders just to get a 35+ year old pg that may or may not help you win doesnt wreek of desperation?

NO

i'm not going to accept this td cuz you dint make a point packfan., I dont see what you are arguing. With that said, they are definitely sacrifcing their future to keep up with the numerous West trades. Should be exciting to see how things unfold.

The future is NOW in Big D....They aint gonna be the best in the west (Regular season) for much longer. They needed this shot in the arm

In the NBA, are draft picks at a premium? I don't think so. Yea, they are important, but there has been plenty of talent that has come out of other rounds that the 1st. It isn't like a first round pick in the NFL.

the deal hasent happened yet,so where is this info coming

February 13, 2008  03:28 PM ET

not a desperate move at all

February 13, 2008  03:28 PM ET

agree goodell...people in dallas feel this team is stagnet right now. Go to the finals and lose to a weaker team (heat) after taking a commanding lead in the series, win the most games in team history last year and lose in the 1st round....something had to be shaken up....and without touching your top 3...go for it!

hey people, I'm back

They are making a run now. Before their current good players get old. --->

Far from a desperate move by the Mavs. The Mavs just picked up a veteran point guard and the Nets got younger in Harris and picked up two low first round picks. They are also going to clear some cap space, and if they were smart they would now turn their attention to dealing Vince Carter.

****. The Cavs need to get something done. Either that, or Hughes HAS TO drop 40 points every night.

February 13, 2008  03:57 PM ET

They need to trade Vince Carter. They have to trade Vince Carter. I beg them to trade Vince Carter. I don't care to who and for what but he has to go and go in a hurry.

February 13, 2008  03:57 PM ET

WIth so much roster room on the Mavs with this trade, look for them to pick up some more players

662 - you assume a few things with Stack. First, that he won't feel resentment towards the Mavs for trading him. Second, assuming he's OK with the trade and would have no problems signing with the Mavs after the 30 days are up, that the Mavs will be able to afford him. He may take the veteran minimum, but then again, he may want to lock into longer term deal for more $$$.

Just a thought, how p*ssed would Cuban be if Stack signed with the Suns, Spurs or Lakers, instead?
