The rocket will unfortunately be remembered for these last two months.I think he deserves more than that .Let us assume that he did take steroids ,even so i think he belongs in the HOF .think about it. he had not two, not three, but four cy young awards before 98 ,the supposed season he started so even though i beleive and most people beleive that he has not done a very good job defending himself these last few weeks he still deserves to be remembed for different things unfortunately he has made it impssible for that to ever happen.

I think that the topic is, you feel Clemens deserves more than to be remembered for this latest PED(performance enhancing drugs) debacle?
I agree that Roger was a great pitcher. I agree that it is unfortunate his career is ending this way. But, I think that Roger should be remembered for what he did. And what did he do? Well, he was a great baseball played who's career was tainted by allegations and accusations of PED's.
Roger didn't have to use PED's. He choose to.(allegedly) He was great. But crossed the line from being a fierce, legendary player to a cheater and a liar.
Clemens didn't HAVE to cheat, and he didn't HAVE to lie. IT was his personal choice. He accepted the fans adoration, admiration, and awe, while cashing monster paychecks that could feed, clothe, and house any of us for a decade. If Clemens decided to cheat, and decided to lie, then he should be remembered as a lying, cheating, baseball player who's enormous talent and respect was casted aside by......himself. There is no one else to blame.

Report Offensive CommentI believe that bonds deserves to be in the hall of fame too, but I'm in the severe minority.....what's worse is that Bonds deserves to be in the hall even if you cut his HR's in half. He could have stayed skinny and been a 1st ballot shoe-in. He is arguably the most complete player ever, even without the HR's. But everybody wants to hate on him, so guess what....Clemens gets the same treatment....a roided out cheater.

Report Offensive CommentThink about this, say you have a great friend, a best friend even. This guy is there for you thick and thin. Helps you through everything in the world.
As you get older you find out the guy has been steeling money from your bank account and sleeping with your wife for the past year.
Should you just assume "hey he was a good guy for years, this is no big deal."?
The guy cheated and basically stole HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS from the Yankees and Astros.

Report Offensive CommentLooks like angelosbegone has taken his game elsewhere... unfortunate, as there is potential for this topic to be debated competently. Nice refutation, though, Willis... you got my vote. I do, however, agree with angelos(beGONE) that we as a society -- whether in matters of sport, politics, the economy or popular culture -- are quick to only look at the situation NOW. I think that was the point he was trying to make with this. It is imperative that we look at the TOTALITY of a player's career when assessing his legacy. This does not, however, exonerate a person from his misdeeds... in fact, this makes learning the truth about these indiscretions even more imperative. Speculation and hearsay creates a gray area where analysis becomes muddled...
Further, I find BSchwartz's analogy to be right to the point... when definitive evidence comes across that an athlete HAS used performance-enhancing drugs to play his way into our memories and hearts, there is a sense of betrayal which instantly clouds our vision of the person in question. No, it does not change the past... we will always harbor the good memories as snapshots in time. But we will see them in a new light, the benefit of hindsight being that we have more information about WHY these feats made us rise in applause...
And, finally, just what in hell does "misremembered" mean? Merriam-Webster is confused...
