Since we all know the depth of belichick's foul activities now, I think it's clearly time for Goodell to wise up and apply his tough player standards to the coach. And I don't want to hear anymore excuses about how BB "thought it was legal". In the US, ignorance of the law does not excuse violations of the law. Besides, the idea that anyone is so stupid as to be confused by such simple rules is totally absurd.
**BTW, this TD is to make up for the one that SI removed a few months back. They clearly thought that beating BB 20 times in public with a cane (singapore style) was too extreme a punishment, so I'm toning it down.**

Now that we know what? Something that you read on T&R?
Look people out there don't like Belichick, that is just a fact. But to suspend the coach for a year? Really? Get over your blind hatred for someone. I mean what do you have on him?
-Someone on his staff taped a Jets coach, OH NO! The Jets! They could have called over to the Jets sidelines and told them each play before they ran it and smoked the Jets.
-Now this thing with the Rams game, well the Rams head coach at the time already came out and said that taping a final walk through really wouldn't have helped anyone.
If you think that the Pats are the only ones out there trying to get ahead you are only kidding yourself. If you don't think that teams hire lip readers to rip off play calls (that's why coaches cover their mouths when they call plays). Or how about the Colts? Before their game with the Patriots a member of their staff "accidentally" messed up the communications for the Pats so they had no headsets, then later found out the Colts were also recycling the crowd noise.
Everyone tries to get a head, Just let this die, it's time to move on.

Look at the facts.
BB (pre-2000) was a disgraceful HC in the NFL --- FACT!!!
BB (post-2000) appeared to transform into 10x the coach he was and was lucky enough to win every critical game by 1 posession or less. Seriously, not many teams have won as many squeakers in their franchises' histories as the cheating pats did between 2000 and 2006. At least they tried to make it appear competitive.
Players have taken abuse at Goodell's hand (some had it coming and for a while) and I think a lot of people who are football fans want to see him prove with his actions what his lip-service has been spewing --- that he holds coaches to a higher standard.
Then, where is the higher-standard penalty for disgracing the game??
BSchwartz07 said 02/14, 04:51 PM
First off someone going from coaching scrub to coaching champ isn't anything new. Remember last off-season, people were SHOCKED that the Giants didn't make a coaching change. Now their guy is a hero.
Outside of that all you have is a strong dislike for the guy.
Even the Jets admitted to taping the Pats before their playoff game last season. So, should they get some suspensions here?
Tony Dungy admitted that during his coaching career they had multiple other team's playbooks in their possession. Where is his punishment?
Truth is this has been blown WAY out of proportion. The NFL made their ruling and that is that. Just let it go.
All teams try to get a leg up, if anything other NFL coaches should be looked at for not changing calls (that's about all you can video tape.)

I really don't know what do say to respond to a Forfeited Turn, but here we go.
The coach's job is to do whatever he can to give his team the best chance to win. This ranges anywhere from picking up signs, watching tendencies of other players, to doing some things that can be seen as down right dirty.
Where is the line? Where SHOULD the line be? Those are questions for the commissioner. In this case the Commissioner has ruled. If more ACTUAL evidence shows up then we will talk, not some third rate employee as stated by T&R (who's top story today is "Cowboys want McFadden" NO REALLY!?).
As I have said a number of times here, just get over it!

You have to look at the rules, not how the rules affected each game. I'm leaning left.

You would have to have some pretty solid evidence to justify such a penalty. If Goodell tried this, he would be castrated in court or at least lose in arbitration. We don't "know" anything and since the NFL has reportedly torched any evidence there might have been, we won't.
Can you imagine this exchange in court between Goodell and BBs lawyer.
Lawyer: So you are suspending Coach B for a year for spying.
Goodell: Yes
Lawyer: Can we see some evidense?
Goodell: No, I burned it.
Lawyer: Why?
Goodell: Because I felt that the situation had been handled, the league should move on and that the tapes should be destroyed so that no one could benifit from them.
Lawyer: and now you changed your mind?
Goodell: Yes
Lawyer: Why?
Goodell: Because Senator Specter is busting my cajones
Lawyer: and the Senator is in some fashion associated with the NFL or it's governing body?
Goodell: No. He gets campaign contributions from Comcast Cable and they have a legal dispute with the NFL over the NFL Network. It is in his best interest to harass me an the NFL so his cash cow doesn't die!
Judge: Case Dismissed!

So should we suspend a D lineman for being offsides? What about Roughing the Passer? Rules are Rules, you have to draw the line. Goodell did, he drew it at loss of a draft pick and some fines.

I think it is time to let this issue die. The rule that he broke just stated he couldn't tape from certain locations not that he couldn't tape. Belichick is defiently a moron for doing it, I just don't see how a year suspension is justified.

Ah, BS, contorting my meaning. There are NFL rules (offsides, holding, etc), and then there are the ethical rules, like cheating. Should you be charged 15 yards for illegal videotaping?
