Why???
Kobe needed help......And he got it with the fire-sale of Pau Gasol to LA.......
Kobe is still just 29
Gasol will be just 27 soon
Bynum is 20
Odom (as long as he has been in the NBA) is still just 28
Fisher is 33 but they have an heir apparent in Farmar who is just 21
They have a 5-6 year window with Kobe still capable of playing at a high level into his mid 30's, Bynum's ccontinued development and a young Gasol......

Ok first things first,
Are the Lakers a good team- absolutely
Are they in good shape for the next 5-6 years- It would seem that way.
But to win 2-3 NBA Titles? I mean how arrogant of a fan are you?
This would mean that the Lakers would be BY FAR the dominate team in the NBA over that time. This is a good team, but lets not start putting them up there as one of the best teams EVER.
Then add to that the LeBron James, Wade, and Dwight Howards of the NBA and you never know what 15 year old kid that will be an NBA star in 5 years. And you never know what game changing players will be where in 2 years let alone 6. I mean 5 years ago when Shaq was in LA who would have known he and Wade would win a title in Miami?
I mean to sit here and say that your team has a good chance to win a title in the next few years is fine, but to guarantee 2-3 titles? Get realistic you just can't come out saying that. Too much has to go right

Its been a while, BS.......Always a pleasure and you certainly test me very time.......A worthy challenger, ok here goes.......
Actually, I watch NBA on ESPN and dont usually fall for it when some of the announcers go ga-ga over trades but as an objective Lakers fan (I was happy about their start BEFORE getting Gasol but not overly crazy saying they could win a title like some)........
Kenny Smith is one of the smarter analysts on TV and he has stated clearly he thinks the Lakers are the favortites in the West.......Sure not all of them are on point, Bayless is clueless, but most of them dont just get handed their jobs, they have a thorough amount of sports knowledge and arent clueless......
But with Bynum's positive development into a possibly dominant big man, say Shaq-lite as he appears on his way to being a consistent 18ppg, 12-13rpg and 2-3bpg guy......And he will be a 3rd option
Gasol is the best player the Lakers and Kobe have had since Shaq left and is a solid 2nd option in the low post......Playing with somebody like Kobe might bring out skills we have yet to see him from as of yet since Kobe is playing the role of consummate team player.......
BSchwartz07 said 02/15, 11:58 AM
Like I said, we are not going to sit here and argue that the Lakers are in great shape right now.
But, to claim 2-3 titles is INSANE!
-First off the Spurs aren't that old just yet, that title they won just last year proves that
-The Suns have 2 solid years left, after that I agree that they will be on the older side
-The Mavs are working to get Kidd and push themselves into contention
-Lets not forget about that team out in Boston that is expected to be the team to beat in the next few years.
Now in the future you have to look out for
-Orl, Howard is showing that he is the best big man in the NBA and he is 22! Add to that they have Howard, Lewis and Jameer locked up long term.
-Por, great young team without that #1overall pick which they will add next year
-Atl, all of those Lottery picks are starting to pay off
-Cle, James is only 23 a FA pick up would set this team over the edge
All of these teams are just scratching the surface. And like I said if you want to say the Lakers are in good shape to win a title I would not argue, but with Free Agency and trades, as well as young talent everywhere NO WAY you can say this team will dominate the next 6 years
djroxalot got a promotion!!! said 02/15, 12:13 PM
Kobe is the best player in the game......Surround him with a potentially dominant big man in Bynum and you have the remaking of Shaq-Kobe with players like Gasol, Odom and Fishert to round out 1 of the best starting lineups in the NBA......
- Dallas getting Kidd doesnt elevate them into a dominant team over the next 5-6 years (he has 2 years left maybe) plus the Mavs dont run as often as they have in past......Kidd's specialty is pushing the ball.......
-SA has maybe 2 years left as a contender and they are breaking down as Duncan ages.......Without Duncan, they ARENT the same team.......
Boston has a 2-3 year window but the Lakers are a DEEPER team, which matters come playoff time.......
-Orlando has issues at PG and not much room to work since they are close to maxed out with the insane amount of $ they threw at Lewis......They started 16-4 and have done what??? Exactly.......
-Portland has several very good players but no DOMINANT go-to-guy in the clutch.......The Portland team that the Lakers dynasty played 5-6 years ago was much better.......Too many variables come into play with a young team.......Plus Blake is a nice player but a solid backup PG on a title team
BSchwartz07 said 02/15, 12:40 PM
Ok here is where I have the issue,
You admit that for the next 3 years or so the Lakers are in the same class as the Celtics, Mavs, and Spurs.
So for the next 3 years you really aren't going to "dominate"
You don't think that Orlando has a great team? Really? Dwight Howard is a top 3 player RIGHT NOW, and that is at 22, trust me in the next 6 years he will leave Kobe in his dust as far as impact players go.
The Next thing to think about is where were the Lakers just a few months ago?
-Kobe wanted out
-Bynum was just another scrub on this team
-and Gasol was still in Memphis
My point here is that there is NO telling what teams will turn it around, what player will break out, and what trades will be made.
My advice to you, enjoy the fact that your favorite team is now a contender, and that they are in great shape for years to come. Then leave it at that, don't expect them to be in the same class as Russell's Celtics, Jordan's Bulls, or even Magic's Lakers.

Report Offensive CommentHighly doubt it. I can see them winning one, but the stars need to align for them to win 2-3 championships in 6 yrs.

Report Offensive CommentLakers could be next dynasty with SA getting older, Dallas not having the killer instinct, Suns getting older with Nash and Shaq, NO too young and not enough playoff experience
Lakers could be the next dynasty over the next 5-6 years as Kobe is in his prime, Gasol is and Byunum has barely scraped the surface of his potential......At 25-26 Bynum will be a beast, Kobe will still be a capable 34-35 year old......

Report Offensive CommentIm a Laker fan through and through but to say that they will win 2-3 titles in the next few years is a big stretch. I could gurantee 1 Title but not 2-3

Report Offensive CommentSaid 2-3, didnt guarantee 3.
2 titles is doable with this lineup......Gasol isnt in the same class as Shaq was at 27, but he is a HUGE upgrade for the Lakers in a WIDE OPEN Western conference......Bynum is a freakin stud and hasnt played as much basketball as Howard, plus he is 2 years younger......
I was enjoying the fast start before Bynum got hurt but AFTER the Gasol trade and watching him fit in seamlessly, this is the start of something special......And with help, Kobe will have extra motivation with Shaq back in the West (not sure if that realy means much but I bet Kobe wants to win a little more now as competitve as he is)

Report Offensive CommentGood TD guys, well argued on both sides....
Did DJ actually GUARANTEE 2-3 titles? I keep reading this again and again, and I think he said "this team has a CHANCE to win 2-3 titles"
And they certainly do have a CHANCE to win 2-3. To say otherwise would be saying they do not have a chance at that
Maybe I'm caught up on the title of the TD too much but...

Report Offensive CommentThe Lakers have not proven anything. Its all hearsay with crystal ball projections till they do. Fist off Bynum has not played a whole good season yet and for him to be hyped like he has been is jumping the gun.. Gasol was a good addition but to say 2-3 titles is ridiculous. Win a title this year year then try this TD next year.

I didnt guarantee
This team is young with Gasol, Kobe and Odom in their prime with a crusty by reliable vet in Fish, couple young studs in Farmar and Bynum, role players in Walton, Rad, Vujacic, Ariza, and Mihm
