E4P Is Not So Mad For Max said 02/15, 07:08 PM
Sure they had a hot streak but now there are on the outside looking in. At 28-24 they're four games behind the Nuggets, Rockets and the Warriors who are in a virtual tie for the 8th seed.
Any other year, they'd probably be a lock for a 7 or 8 seed. But with the West so stacked this season, Portland wont be getting invited to the post season party.

I've been staring at this...and i accept
Whiel Portland has had a rough 4 games...what team in the west hasnt? every team will have a slide...this is the same team that put together the great run in the somewhat begining of the season..this is the team that was settign the bar for western playoff contentions.... i think you are counting them out too early..
Every team will slide...it happens...Dallas is 1-4 in there last 5 games...houston is hot now...but they struggled so much in the beginng of the season..who's to say they wont go back to those slumping ways? Kobe's injury seems like it might take him out for a while..
injuries come, teams slump..and teams go on runs...i think it way too early to say they will fall out the running..
E4P Is Not So Mad For Max said 02/16, 01:15 AM
I'm not judging them on their slide. I'm judging this by their competition and their remaining schedule.
They're 8-18 in away games, and they just happen to have 15 more of those. The next closest playoff team with that bad an away record is Utah and they are leading their division and have the best home record in all the NBA. They also have some tough remaining games with some most likely playoff bound teams:
Phoenix 3 Times
Golden State 3 Times
LA Lakers 4 Times
They also have a negative scoring differential. Not one of the other top ten teams in the west have been outscored.
Like I said before Portland is a good young team but unfoturnately that just isn't enough in a year were the west is completely stacked from top to bottom.
Steveo16220 is a GGTK said 02/16, 04:00 AM
With the rest of their schedule looking like top 5 teams throughout it...it also has a bunch of bottom 5 teams as well..along with multiple games with Golden State...and Lakers...i mention these two teams becasue it seems like the blazers have faired well agianst the warriors and the Lakers are a big question mark of playing becasue of Kobes injury....While most will down play it...that is a series losses for the Lakers and loses will come from good teams without him..one team being the Blazers
Like i mentioned...not one team in the west has an easy final half of their schedule...this side of the NBA is stacked right now and not one team will absolutely handle the rest of there schedule...while in fact injuries and...long road trips (the spurs) and slumps will fall in place as it usually does every year
This isn't a "being realistic" this is a conference that will come down to the very last game to see who makes it. I seem them doing just that...I'm seeing Denver's schedule to be a little bit harder the final stretch...they are playing
With march starting out with 5 straight western conference playoff teams...im not saying who will win the playoff race or who wont...its to early
E4P Is Not So Mad For Max said 02/16, 05:01 PM
Here are 5 teams I promise you will make the playoffs:
Utah
Pho
Dallas
SA
NO
That leaves three spots for 5 teams. GS, Hou, Den, LA Lakers and Portland. The only reason I put LA in this discussion is if Kobe goes out. But Kobe is a proven fighter so I think he'll hang in there, like he himself already stated, and if he does I once again promise you that LA WILL make the playoffs.
So that leaves 2 spots for 4 teams:
You really haven't said which team wont make it, but you did bring up Den. Sine 2004 Den has made it to the playoffs EVERY TIME while Portland hasn't once. If I was a gambling man, which I am, I'd put everything I got on Den over Portland.
The 2nd of these teams is Hou. They're standing at 32-20. They've also lost 7 games with T-Mac gone. Now hes back and they've won 8 in a row. At full strength the Rockets WILL NOT miss the playoffs.
The last team is GS. This team knows how to win games win it counts, as evident last season when they squeaked in. We can all agree that they are a much better team than last year. I think there is no way they dont find a way in.
Portland just doesn't have the solid experience this vetran teams have.
Steveo16220 is a GGTK said 02/16, 07:40 PM
Rockets had full and healthy T-Mac in the beginning of the season and struggled to maintain a .500 record....
This also isn't the 2004 05 06 season...this a newly revived trailblazers...years past you could count of them taking top 10 draft pick spot...now they have made the trades...signed the free agents and put together a really good ball team...and if you were a betting man you would have lost when the Mavs got booted form the playoffs by Golden State last year...or the Pats in the super bowl... things don't always go as planned...especially when there is so much talent in the West.
Denver is 11-14 on the road...not much more impressive...and considering they have 16 more away games...and half of those are against playoff bound teams...i will go with Denver falling off an not making the playoffs. Same can be said with Houston...even with a healthy T mac they are inconsistent...and also playing half of there remaining game against top 5 playoff teams...
If experience is the key to making the playoffs...then New Orleans is pulling off some great wins...3 of the 5 play makers have less than 5 years in the league with minimal playoff experience...

the lakers are about 3 games away from not making the playoffs, and they are 18 games over .500, anything is possible in the west. too strong

This should be good, 2 of the best from this site going at it. I'll be back when all the arguments are in.

I would love to see Brandon Roy lead the Blazers into the playoffs. They have done a lot of work to shake the Jail Blazers image. I hope they make it.

I am going to have to disagree with dj and the rest of the people down on the Blazers... remember, this is a team which has played without its big man ALL SEASON... These ain't your momma's JailBlazers...
Good debate on both sides, but I am going right to Steveo on this one...

but the point about the previous seasons is that they are playoff test and they know what its like to get there. portland usually isnt sniffing the playoffs after the all star break so they have no previous experience fighting for a spot down the streach.

here it is...i have a problem with the "experience factor" as most people call it...if you are playing good basketball..and you have beat teams earlier in the season...i fail to see how a team will just not play good becasue they haven't cont4ended with the playoffs in while......If a team is playing good basketball....then they are playing good basketball period...now how does this relate to the blazers...they have shown they have what it takes to win...and win consistently...if the begin to do this for a majority of the end of the season...them being a young "playoff experienced team" should be irrelevant...
good td bud...see where this leads to
