They have the best Rotation in the NL! Brandon Webb is amazing, and now that Danny Haren is back in the NL, with a lineup that can provide run support, he is SCARY!!!! If Randy Johnson is healthy (and all indications are that he will be) he can do very well. If you can have Johnson as your #3 starter, you are deep.

Brandon Lyons will step into the closers role well, filling in for the traded Jose Valverde. Tony Pena, an amazing setup man, will worse case scenario, close. Not such a bad plan B.

Offensivley, Chris Young hit 32 HRs. Then there is Stephen Drew and Eric Byrnes, who is the leader in the club house. Mark Reynolds will break out, and the same for Justin Upton.

Well it's pretty hard to determine who will win the pennent when the teams have just began Spring Training. The Diamondbacks are a good young team, but because of that inexperience it will be difficult. I think the Rockies have a good chance at winning again. Or the Fightin Phils.

Also, how can you Determine Mark Renoylds or Justin Upton will break out, through your magic 8 ball? Your just making a bunch of assumptions about the D-Backs. Danny Haren and Brandon Webb is a great rotation. But, what about the Mets? Johan Santana? Quite possibly the best pitcher in the MLB.

I wouldn't say Tony Pena is an "amazing setup man". I mean don't get me wrong he played pretty damn well last year, but i wouldn't go to the extent of saying he was amazing. I mean he had a 1.10 WHIP which isn't that great. A 5-4 record which is not that great either. His ERA was the only thing that was decent which was 3.67 which is pretty good, but his WHIP and Record make that look medicore.

i guess you couldnt really come back from that. You say the Mets have a chance to win the pennant with Johan Santana. First off, it dosent strike you as weird that most of his stats were worse in 07 than in 06?. And who else behind him in the rotation? John Maine? REMEMBER THE MAINE!!! LOL. Ill take Webb and Haren over Santana and Maine.

OK, we have established the D-Backs have the best rotation in the NL. Now you may say that pitching is not the only factor in winning the pennant. However, it is by far the most important. Trust me, as a Yankees fan, the last few years have proven that having the best lineup in baseball adds up to nothing without pitching.

And the D-Backs do have a good lineup. Eric Byrnes is one of the most energetic players in the league. Justin Upton, Stephen Drew, and Mark Reynolds are stars in the making. Orlando "O-Dog" Hudson was an All-Star last year.

I know you are afraid to talk about the future, "it's hard to determine who will win the pennant in spring training". If your too scared to stick your neck on the line (which im not doing, as my prediction is a safe one) you shouldnt do too many TDs.

I wouldn't exactly call your prediction "safe". Mark Renoylds is a weak player and you blurt out and say he'll have a good season. By the way buddy i wouldn't be saying i shouldn't be doing a lot of TD's, let's compare records sometime shall we?

Ever heard of a team called the San Diego Padres. Or the Colarado Rockies. For the Pads you have Jake Peavy, Mark Prior, Chris Young, and Greg Maddoux. A pretty strong rotation if i say so myself. As for the Rockies you have a great vetran pitcher in Jeff Francis. You have up and coming pitchers such as Ubaldo Jimenez who clocked in at over 100mph in the NLCS against the Philies. Plus, you have another great young pitcher in Frank Morales who also clocked in at 100mph.

The D-Backs just have to much competition to bring home the pennant. The pitching is good, but not quite good enough to lead them to another World Series apperence.

I'll talk about the Rotation next, i didn't have enough room

Dont let this 5-4 record fool you. From watching basically every game, he came in alot with a one run lead and the bases semi juiced.

The D-backs aren't even going to win the NL West (or the NL). The whole team besides Webb was lightning in a bottle.

February 18, 2008  06:21 PM ET

No they actually called young guys, learning the ropes of the mlb. Expect them to be a better overall hitting team, and with the addition of Haren, they have the best rotation in the NL.

February 18, 2008  06:54 PM ET

have you ever heard of a team called the Mets?

February 19, 2008  12:48 AM ET

Padres or Dodgers. Probably Padres.

i wrote this, and it saysi forfieted my turn. OK, I guess I cut it a bit short. Anyways, Pena's WHIP was 1.10. The league average was 1.41. The league leader had a WHIP of 1.06. Being .04 points away from the league in a major category is, as you put it "not that great". Why let the facts get in the way of a good story???

i think brandon webb is a total beast. I loved Danny Haren when he was with Oakland, and in the NL . . .
more on Tony Pena, i think MD forgot to say that you dont really care about setupmen's records, they are there for WHIP and holds, both of which were great. I am voting for MD on this one. D-Backs gonna beast!

Trent could lose his first

February 20, 2008  07:46 PM ET

Sorry wade but im not going down without a fight.

February 20, 2008  08:02 PM ET

you are both wrong but the Phils have a better chance than the D-Backs also the Mets, Cubs, will contend. the D-Backs might not even be the best in the division

February 20, 2008  08:03 PM ET

i said the phils in my arguement though

February 20, 2008  08:04 PM ET
