Best #28 of all-time

My pick is Marshall Faulk.

My pick is obvious and a new addition to the NFL Hall of Fame: Darrell Green. For 20 years Darrell Green and his 4.2 speed covered wide receivers in the Washington Redskins secondary. He holds the record for most consecutive seasons with an INT at 19 and has a career total of 54 INTs (Tied for 18th in NFL history--also a Redskins Franchise record). Another one of his records (a tie with Jackie Slater) is his 20 seasons with ONE club with half of his career happening during the free agency era makes this accomplishment even greater (also the oldest CB ever to play at 42). If you put any stock in Pro Bowl competitions, Green won four of the NFL's Fastest Man Competitions during 4 of his 7 Pro Bowl trips and he even went undefeated in the 1991 World's Fastest Athlete Competition.

Darrell Green has been selected to the NFL's 1990's All Decade Team and one of the 70 Greatest Redskins. I mean there really isn't much that Darrell Green HASN'T done. He was running in the 4.3s and even 4.2s during the waning years of his career, which, when you look at a player's career shouldn't be happening as most players slow down, but NOT #28 Darrell Green. A truly great player on AND off the field.

First of all the fact that he ran a 4.3 is great, but that doesn't have much to do with how he's the best #28. I mean guys like Terrell Davis have ran a 4.65 and still have had wonerfull career. I mean, the NFL put way to much stock into that but Faulk had a pretty good time himself with a 4.4. Second, the fact that Faulk is 7th all-time for rushing yards impresses me more than the fact that Darrell Green being 18th all-time for interceptions. When a guy gains 12,279 yards rushing in his 9 year career that is a lot better than a guy who gets 54 INTs in his career. You want to talk about pro bowls. Well, Faulk also made 7 but won a Pro Bowl MVP. He was also the NFL MYP and 2x PFWA NFL MVP.Also won the Bert Bell award. Even had his number retired by the rams. You want to talk about speed. Well, Darrell Green did have amazing speed. I admit he was faster than Marshall. But Marshall had great speed of his own. Infact, he was known for his speed and quickness. He also won a championship which Green never did. Lastly, Faulk was just as amazind off the field as Green. and he was very soft spoken and never did anything stupid like gurantee a win. He was a classy individual

Green won TWO Super Bowls in his 20 year career and played in THREE Super Bowls outdoing Faulk's 1 ring in 2. The speed part of this is that Green maintained that speed for 20 seasons in the NFL. If you look at most player's careers (like Faulk's) they slow down after a few years and just aren't the same impact player. The point is Green had longevity in this league while Faulk diminished after only 8 years.

Green was still performing into his late 30s and early 40s getting 29 of his 54 INTs after the age of 33 whereas Marshall Faulk gained only 1,884 rushing yards after turning 30 (and his last 1,000 yard season was at the age of 28, so he went the last 5 years of his career w/out a 1,000 yard season). Green was still a starter in his final season while Faulk was riding the bench.

Also, Green only missed 20 games in his 20 year career (7 STRAIGHT seasons of starting EVERY game) whereas Faulk missed 16 games in 13 years (only 3 straight seasons of starting 16 games). Faulk also only scored 13 of his 100 TDs after turning 30. DG had longevity, Faulk did not.

Also, Faulk played 13 years in the NFL NOT 9. If you want to TD then at least know what you're talking about.

The reason Faulk struggled when he was 30 and older was because he was never healthy. When Faulk turned 30 he only had 260 carries after that. How do you expect to have a 1,000 yard season when you get 260 carries in 3 years! This was due to health issues. The Rams didn't bench him because he was washed up they benched him because of his health problems.Plus he never had many carries to begin with. His highest season total of carries is 324! Wasn't his fault that he was part of the greatest show on turf. Infact, once he never got 300 carries in a season with the Rams.

Wait, say that again: Faulk could NEVER stay healthy. Darrell Green could and if you look in my second argument I covered that fact. Green had longevity and was able to be on the field to help his team unlike Faulk who couldn't finish a season the last 6 years of his career whilst Green played in every game the last 10 years of his career.

You've kind of given me ammo here: Faulk never got over 260 carries in St. Louis, but with that he should have been able to stay healthier LONGER than most running backs who get the rock a good 320 carries a season. Then you throw in catches and Faulk (who was a big receiver in the Rams offense) STILL should have been able to stay healthy, which he was NOT able to do.

So you see that to be the greatest you have to be able to stay on the field and Faulk was unable to stay on the field for 16 games a season while Green was an automatic for being ready at game time EVEN when he tore cartilage in his rib cage during the playoffs.

And Green has 2 rings in 3 Super Bowls, while Faulk has 1 ring in 2 Super Bowls. I still can't believe you didn't know that Green had championships in his repetoire as well the fact that Faulk played 13 seasons.

Should I do it?

I do love how Cassidy voted for the no argument despite harping on "reading the arguments". I bet his five words really brought you to his side, eh Cassidy?

I really love how you and hemo voted against me w/o comment on my worst NFL team which is so unlike you not to get a rib in on me. Maybe because you cant justify that somebody argued better, so you just bite your lip and vote against me out of spite. The Owls are all classless for doing this and it makes you seem like a bunch of teenage hoods who park your sports knowledge outside whenever reading one of my throwdowns. Congrats on shaming yourselves.

I hardly ever comment on TDs. I silently agree with someone, and I leave.
