What is the biggest dissapointment of the NFL season (apart from the Dolphins for my sake and everybody else)
Captain America said 02/21, 03:50 AM
Pick first then argue.
My pick is the wonderful Baltimore Ravens.
The Bandit said 02/21, 04:12 AM
I would have to say the Chicago Bears.
From Super Bowl contenders the prior year to not even making the playoffs this past season. Tab in the disappointing performance by their D, which dropped considerably in the rankings from #5 to #30 in 2 years, and you have the NFL's biggest disappointment of the season.
Captain America said 02/21, 06:37 PM
Well the curse thats new is whoever loses the Super Bowl does not make the playoffs.
But look what they did with the Bear's they traded their prime Running Back, and stuck with Grossman who is a terrible QB. Injuries also plagued them, but they still did pretty decent. Thanks to Hester who basically won them the games by himself and the help of his special teams.
The Ravens did not have anything at all, there only pride and joy on the offense was McGahee who only had 1207 yards with 11 td's but they also had 10 fumbles and 7 of them lost. The passing game had 13 passing td's 13! 14 ints, 39 sacks, and only 2 returns from special teams, kicking wise Stover had 107 points.
The Bears had almost the same statistics as them passing wise 18 td's and 21 ints, 43 sacks. Running wise they had 1330 yards and 8 tds 14 fumbles but they only lost 6. Their Kicker (Gould) had 126 points, and nobody even has to talk about the fantastic Hester.
Plus the offensive for the Ravens was going to be alot better, and judging how they played the Colts on the playoffs the year before they thought the defense was gonna be nothing short but amazing. Ran out of space next argument more info

Ok, both teams stunk it up last year after going 13-3 in '06. But the Bears are a bigger disappointment and here's why:
1. They had higher expectations because they were a championship caliber squad in '06 before total catastrophe set in for '07. Their D wwas solid while their 15th ranked O was surprisingly decent. Going into the 07 season,Benson was all hyped up to provide a consistent running game replacing Jones. Berrian was due for a breakout season. Urlacher, Harris, and most of the D starters return. With that said, things were looking good and expectations were soaring high for Bears fan as they hoped to return to the SB. But what happened? Everything went downhill, and they were a team that has never gone above .500 all season long.
2. Bears better options than the Ravens.
Grossman was benched for Griese, who is a better backup than Boller.
Berrian/Muhammad are a better tandem than Mason/Clayton.
With Heap injured, Clark and Olsen are definitely better than Sypniewski.
PR/KR man Hester is better than Figurs/Sams
Only edge Ravens had is Mcgahee over Benson/Peterson.
As far as the D, Tank left while A.Thomas left from Ravens.
will compare more nxt

Well anybody who saw the Super Bowl saw how bad the Bears offense truly was. Benson I have no idea what they saw in him at all to trade their leading rusher away to give him a chance. Benson fumbled I think 2 in the Super Bowl. Grossman QB fiasco this offseason who were they gonna start at QB. the Ravens and even analysists picked the Ravens to go to the AFC divisional finals because of their smash mouth defense, who wrecked the Colts signifcantly in the playoffs.
Plus with the upgrade of acquiring McGahee, they thought they finally had the RB to fit McNair and the smash mouth offensive lineman they had specially with one of the best LT of the game in Ogden bu injury plagued the whole offensive squad.
In the defense squad nobody them expected them to do this bad specially against the passing defense just how bad they did they might draft a CB. The Ravens had 32 sacks Bears had 41 in INT's the Ravens had one more. Plus the division the Ravens were in was mediocre the Bears had a good division and still did good. The Bears werent expected by the analysts to do this good they expected them to do worst! They picked the Ravens as Super Bowl Contenders! Not First Pick contenders!
The Bandit said 02/22, 02:54 AM
Ok, I am resuming from my 2nd argument as to why the Bears had better options in their favor, yet exhibited nothing impressive.
Injuries have also plagued the Ravens more, You can't really expect them to have much success when one of their most dependable receivers in Heap and their veteran QB McNair out for most of the season. They were both a key part to their O. Now as far as the options I provided earlier, the Bears' options had more talent so they should be the bigger disappointment.
Tank vs. A.Thomas.
In 06, Thomas had 64 tackles, 14 assist, 11 sacks, and 1 int for def TD. Those are better stats compared to Tank Johnson's 22 T, 4 A, 3.5 QB sacks, and 1 FF. Therefore, the Ravens lost a much more valuable player in Adalius Thomas whose made more of a presence than Tank on the D end. Yet the Bears D has deteriotated even more.
Boller as the backup QB. His stats: 9 TD's and 10 Ints in 12 games with a QB rating of 75. Can't really expect much from him, their backup TE in ineffective as well. The Ravens had far less options as a result of injuries. Simply put, the Bears had the better talent yet couldn't find the success that people expected from them .Total fiasco!

Sorry I meant from #5 to #28 for the Bears D ranking, not #5 to #30.

The Bears have completely fell apart. No running game what so ever and passing game is a joke.

The Bears ended at 7-9. They never had a QB, barely had a running game, and had some bad injuries on defense. It was more surprising that they made it to the Superbowl in '06-'07 than that they finished with a mediocre record last year.
Baltimore was also 13-3 in 2006, and they fell apart in much more ridiculous way this year. They lost to Miami for God's sake.

The Bears bad season was easily predictable. They lost Thomas Jones, everyone knew Rex Grossman wouldn't last the season, and the defense was unsteady (losing Tank Johnson, players holding out, etc.). Baltimore, on the other hand, only lost Adailius Thomas, but still had easily the best D in the league. They had greatly improved their rushing game by acquiring Willis McGahee. But they sucked.

The cowboys becoming the first team, in the current format, to be in first place in their conference and lose at home in the playoffs....thats a pretty big disappointment too

The Dallas Cowboys (whom I am a huge fan of) are the biggest disappointment. In pre-season, they were predicted... no... EXPECTED... to make the Super Bowl. THey then go 13-3, tying thier franchise record for wins, and capture the #1 seed in the NFC. Then they lose in thier first playoff game to the Giants... and looked bad doing it. From favorite to goat in a heartbeat.

I think the Saints should be mentioned as well. They started off 0-4, then blew multiple games at the end of the year to miss out on the playoffs. The biggest disappointment however is far and away the Patriots losing Super Bowl XLII. They went undefeated, shattered several league records along the way, and had a 14-10 lead with less than 3 minutes to go. That has got to be the most disappointing loss in NFL history.

I choose the Ravens. The only win in Miami's record is from them. I think that should be sufficient in arguing. But I like YCMFord's choice too. I seriously thought the Cowboys would meet the Patriots again after they lost during the season.

Cowboys were overrated. Saints was another great argument that i would have picked, but i did not follow the team so closely as i did with the Ravens, plus I think majority of their wins last season was because of motivation because of Katrina and McCallister and he got injured in like the first game of the season if im not mistaken? Plus Bush is in my opinion most overrated player in the NFL

There was an even greater tragedy this year. The team with the best chance to put the 72 Fins in their place lost. Now the pricks Shula and Morris will have yet another year to run their traps. That collective sound after the SB was the Fins popping even more corks.

I would rather have that gang of pricks run their mouths for another year then let a bunch of cheaters go undefeated.

i would be the first to admit that the 72 dolphins are annoying but I think mostly everybody wants the Dolphins to be undefeated instead of the Patriots as well and their cheating ways
