Who needs to draft a QB in the first round more, the Bears or the Falcons?

I say Falcons.

Atlanta is no where near a playoff caliber team while the bears have a slim chance.

The bears already have a great D and no one knows how long they'll be able to keep them together. They should either sign a proven free agent QB or a vet via trade like McNabb. They have no time to train someone new for the job. They would be better suited picking up someone like Booty or Woodson in the later rounds for the long term answer down the road. They have other needs on their offense like O-Line and WR. I think they would be much better suited drafted Clady, then drafting Booty in a later round, then picking up a proven vet to compete now.

The Falcons, on the otherhand, are obviously in a rebuilding stage. They already cut a bunch of vets and I think they will have no problem waiting for someone like Matt Ryan or Brohm to develop.

We meet again...hahaha just kidding

Why not draft a QB and sign a free agent in the off season? with Grossman's contract up, Briggs looking to leave...and Chicago in the hopes of getting rid off Benson (i know he's under contract) there is a ton of $ out there for both good draft picks and free agents...around 20 million to be exact

With the bears never really landing a solid QB in the draft this season seems to bring a lot of talent to the table...If Falco is in the draft when it rolls around grab him...There is just as much as risk of drafting O-line men and them not performing compared to a qb...With Greise also being a veteran qb we can always rely on him to show the ropes...Get the best of the draft and free agency with the money the bears have

I'd have to say that Atlanta doesn't really need one yet....they will have no proven back up to help him...there defense is absolutely falling apart! Without signing someone half decent in the free agency...which will be hard for them...they will end up having there draft pick starting right off the bat! never a good thing for a rookie to get right out there and take the reigns...settle defensive issues and wait for 4 a back up

In a rebuilding stage, the first thing you need is someone to steer the ship, and that is a franchise qb. They can then build around that player, and that's how elite teams are made. Just look at the Colts.

Now the bears on the otherhand would be in far better shape drafting an o linemen like clady with their first pick, drafting a later round qb like Booty or Woodson, then picking up a proven vet to win some games now. Drafting an o linemen that doesn't work out is far less detrimental than drafting a franchise qb that doesn't work out. Just look at the Chargers and Browns franchises after Tim Couch and Ryan Leaft flopped.

And like I said previously, the Bears already might have the best D in the league and no one knows how long that will last. So you minds well get the pieces in place to win now instead of building for the future.

Atlanta doesn't need one now...they have no one to work with him! Not one solid qb to actually teach him how to play football...all they have is a QB coach...to show him what to do...That is just suicide for a rookie qb..especially if there is a good chance they will be playing in the first season of play!
Even if you think they wil land a good offseason free agent in Garcia or McNabb...you have to think what if they get injured? Your boy will be starting with no experience and will get eating alive!

If you think the can give the reins over to a rookie qb with the O-LINE that Atlanta has your crazy...Harrington got sacked 32 times last year...32!! Now put a rookie in the box and see what happens to that number...you need to secure a better O-Line to protect him before you even think about putting a #1 draft pick in the box....and the was just Harrington..all 3 QBs that played combined for 47 sacks allowed!

All in all they need produce a more all around team before they start looking at there Franchise man...a well rounded team performs a lot better than a franchise qb...

Your correct when you say that atlanta has no one to mentor him thats what free agency is for. Just like last year, the raiders signed a few free agent qbs to be JaMarcus' doormat. Remember when the giants signed Kurt warner to do a similar thing for eli?

Everyone knows the falcons dont have a hope for a winning season next year, so why not get your new franchise qb rolling. Sign a free agent at let him play. Then let the take a few snaps at the end of the year to get the feel of it. Then by the time the 09-10 season rolls around hell be ready to be a full time starter. You could even go the philip rivers route and give him a whole year off.

I dont know if you knew this but the bears qbs last year were only sacked 4 times less than ATLs. And with their selection, Clady would be a great value to them. Then they can pick up someone else for later down the road at QB further in the draft, for the third time.

Like I said before, even if the Falcons dont play their qb this year, they're still a year ahead of where they would be if they took a QB 1st round of the next year. And that's a year closer to being a better team.

Corerct...free agency s for picking up a QB...BUT...if you have failed to look at this years free agency list..it is mighty thin....With Teams now having 116 million for cap space instead of 106 from years past there is less QB's that will be hitting the market....especially ones that can teach your young QB you will be drafting..Mcnabb i see staying with philly garcia signing back with Tampa bay...it looks very bleek for Atlanta to find a decent back up QB to come in and run the show..

The bears ont he other hand have multiple draft picks along with multiple millions of extra money to spend on O-Line, Saftey, QB, so on and so forth. With both teams needing a Franchise QB...it would be wise for Atlanta to settle there linemen issues before even thinking about putting a qb behind them...especially an average to below par back up who has a good chance of going down and having your Rookie step in his place...

Knowing it is a rebuilding season doesnt give all rights for a team to suck becasue of that, you still want to contend your team and make progress...doing that IMO means waiting on a franchise QB...

February 21, 2008  11:41 PM ET

You both make good points. Its a draw!!

February 21, 2008  11:42 PM ET

<--------- sorrry steveo, im a mad falcons fan, and they need the QB far more than the Bears, glad ur a good sport
tho :D

February 21, 2008  11:45 PM ET

the Falcons are the most pathetic team i have ever seen on the last 5 years of any sport i would not be surprised if they go 0-16 getting under 10 points each game

February 21, 2008  11:45 PM ET

the bears lost the playoffs becasue of not having a td...and then this season losing 9 games because of there qb...atlanta just had a bad apple who went to jail...

February 21, 2008  11:47 PM ET

I don't really think there is a QB this year that is worth the a first round pick. Maybe by the time the Bears come around you could but with Atlanta's pick they might be better off trading down. I think they will take Ryan but I am not sold on him at all. The problem is I don't know of to many free agent QBs either. Don't think the Eagles are quite ready to part with McNabb who is been too injured to count on and I can't really think of anyone else. Simms is not good contrary to what some think. Who else is there? I know some will get cut yet which might make Chad Pennington available or you can go get Leftwhich or Culpepper. Just not a guy out there this year you can go hang your hat on and say that is who we are going into the season with. Grossman can't even get the ball from the center so you might as well have me play for you if you are going to try him.

February 21, 2008  11:47 PM ET

HAH how can nobody see it? If the Bears needed a QB more so they have a higher chance to make the playoffs. You think not? its better then the QB's they have now as it is so a rookie QB will do better then the QB'a for the Bears at the moment. They should go for a RB in the free agency

February 21, 2008  11:47 PM ET

I dont get that comment ^^^^.

February 21, 2008  11:48 PM ET

The comment about the Bears losing the playoffs because of not having a td....

February 21, 2008  11:50 PM ET

The Bears D wasn't all that great last year and I think might start on their downfall. They couldn't stop the run very well with often dinged T. Harris and Urlacher is showing great signs of decline and never could shed a block very well. They better sign Briggs.

February 21, 2008  11:52 PM ET

"I say Falcons." - Elway4Prez

You obviously haven't had the privelage to be a Bears fan. We need a QB and we need one now. more than Atlanta does. Period.

February 21, 2008  11:53 PM ET

I know Grossman didn't play well last year, when he did play; however there are some games that he has looked awesome in. I don't get why he is so up and down. The Bears might want to give him one more shot and address other issues for this upcoming season. Why did they draft Orton if he is so bad? His win / loss ratio is pretty good. Orton reminds me of Trent Edwards. Terrible, terrible stats but seems to win some ball games.

February 21, 2008  11:54 PM ET

You Bears fans are rough on Grossman.

February 21, 2008  11:54 PM ET

Bucky they were hurt last year. Just ask any bears fan.

February 22, 2008  12:02 AM ET

I know they were banged up but that tells me they are showing their age. That back injury isn't going to get any better for Urlacher and Adewale Ogunleye is no spring chicken anymore either. When was the last time Mike Brown stayed healthy? I just don't think you can count on them to win games like they used to.

February 22, 2008  12:08 AM ET

Maybe they arent the best in your opinion but their still top five. And just like you said they are aging. So why not give it one last run with what you got before you begin to rebuild.

February 22, 2008  12:15 AM ET

Top 5? Hardly. Look up their stats. They are riding on reputation. They were 28th in ypg, 24th in rushing, 27th in passing and 16th in ppg. They played in what most think, including me, an easy division. NFC North had it pretty easy this year too with playing the AFC west. Sorry but if you think they are top 5 than you just didn't watch them this year. That is not the same D as before.
