The best #5, or Center in the NBA right now is the reigning Slam Dunk Champion, Dwight Howard. He plays great on both sides of the ball, rebounds on both sides of the ball. He doesn't look like your typical center, but he does play like it. He's quicker, stronger, and more versatile. He is the main reason that the Magic are on of the top teams in the East. He should be an MVP candidate, but he is getting overshadowed by CP3, LeBron, and Kobe, and deservedly so. But Howard is the best Center in basketball.

I will choose Amare Stoudamire since you choose Howard.

Amare plays great on the boards and is a good defender,he averages 9.3 rebounds per game, which is good for his 6'9 stature.Amare is probably the fastest center in the NBA,very athletic, and able to make good passes in the suns high powered offense.

Yes he is a main reason the Magic are one of the top teams in the East but it is the east.Amare does just as good a job leading his team in the wild west.

I will gow with Amare Stoudamire as the best center in the NBA.

Your turn Lynch

Ok, here is why Amare wouldn't be my first pick. He is one of my favorite players, next to LeBron, Kobe, KG, and Shaq, BUT, he's got a 2 time MVP giving him the ball. He can pretty much get it anywhere on the court. Which is a good thing for Amare cause that means he could shoot anywhere he wants. Another reason is, he's not a pure Center. That's why they got Shaq, that and everyone else in the West were making moves. I don't think he's necessarily the 'leader' of the team, that belongs to Steve Nash. Both of these guys have the same body type, Dwight being a little bit bigger, another one of his advantages over Amare. And one more thing, DH leads the league in an underrated stat, dunks, which shows how much he controls the game over all the other centers that he faces.

I still say Stoudamire is a center, even with Shaq there. And with the atleticism of Dwight Howardv you'd think he would be able to make more opportunities for himself.

Amare gets shots that he wants with his skill, and arsenal of moves, and athleticism on the break. He's the best fast breaking Center of our generation.

He doesn't have to be THE Leader,he just has to be a very good center to put the Suns in the position in which they are in now.And yes Howard dunks more, but does that make him the better Center?I think not.He scores a very high percentage of his hoops stuffing the ball through the hoop. And Amare has a combonation of shots and shoots .584.

I'm not saying he's not a center, I'm just saying that since he's not as big as other centers, he got moved to power forward. In my opinion, Amare is a better PF, than a Center. Because of his size and all of his abilities. Dwight is a more pure center and can exceed in all of the other center abilities. No, he can't jack up 3 pointers like Amare can, but I think that's why he's even better. They know when they face Dwight, they're going to play him down low cause he can't shoot from far out, and he still does what he does every game anyway. 14.6 RPG, 2.4 BPG, 21.8 PPG. He's averaging a double-double people.

Well ,okay then.He may not be as big as some CEnters that is true but he is still excellent at it.And Dwight Howard may be a more pure Center but I liken Amare over Dwight because of his all around talent, skill, and Atleticism. He can shoot from all over the floor and has great speed. He brings to the table at the center position what many Centers can't do or even guard.

Amare, even with his under-sized stature can also block to with a pretty good 2.3 blocks per game. That high FG % also .I really like what Amare brings to the table at the center position and I think he is the best #5 in the NBA.

of coruse its dwight howard he dominates every1 the only other one possible would Pau Gasol cause he is a great veteran presence but he is not as dominating on the rebounds and defense plus dwight howard will be good for a long time plus he plays with amazing intensity

that's all I ask of you. I never look for an easy win, unless the guy is really asking for it.

Why do you say that?

February 23, 2008  09:23 PM ET

Cause I challenged it at a late time, and then by the time you argued, it was already of the front page, so no one's going to see it until we get done with it.
