the red sox win in the 2004 series was better than the 2007 win

the 2004 series win was the better of the two simply due to the fact that it officially ended the curse of the great bambino. and plus, nobody expected it.

I'll look at this a different way.

Yeah sure the 2004 win was remarkable but the 2007 win took the "one hit wonder" off the team. Because they won last year, they are now a huge threat now and if they keep it up dynasty talk should begin. 2004 got the monkey off their back, 2007 established them as a great team and a healthy organization for the long haul.

yeah, that i can agree with, but without the win of the 04 series, we may have lost some players, and morale would have lessened. A lot of the time, the morale of a team defines itsself.

and besides, we also learned weaknesses of certain opponent players, and picked up some new stars the next season.

Even with the win, the Sox (not you) lost players afterward. That didn't change. I know that year was huge but right now I think last year's win was greater.

Last year showed that they are a great team that is going to contend every year with the core they got. They will no longer be labeled as pulling off a miracle one year and doing nothing since. 2 championships in 4 years in baseball is a huge accomplishment. Better than just 1, no matter how big that one was.

"and besides, we also learned weaknesses of certain opponent players, and picked up some new stars the next season."

You do that every year, regardless of the lasting outcome.

not necessarily do we always learn weaknesses of our opponents- in example:
eli manning and his giants have yet to bet the vikings, despite them being a lower-middling team, simply because the weakness has NOT been found.
And picking up players is different than picking up STARS. Generally, when someone is called a star, they are in some way an asset to their team. they way you are saying is makes it seem as if even the most bumbling fool that does nothing right, even the most incompetent player in existance, is a star, which we all know is not true.
and just because we didn't go to the series in 2005 doesn't mean we did nothing.

Most of the time, you learn many things from different teams every year. I mean, most teams see the same opponents over and over so you're gonna learn something. Football and baseball is a different situation. In football you see another team once or twice, 3 times tops. In baseball you see most teams at least 6 games when you talk about series' during the regular season.

I realize that the stars point, but either way usually afterward you pick up players that will help your team. A player doesn't have to be a star to help the team, hence why you don't need to pick up a star every off season. Look how that has worked out for the Yanks. Not good.

I'm saying is 2007 made them a dominant force that is now the favorite to win again. If the Red Sox didn't win after 2004, some people could say that was just a crazy fluke. Now they can't,

hey elimanningfan, who is the "we" you speak of in your second argument? Are you part of the team? I rhink the correct pronoun is "they"

February 23, 2008  05:33 PM ET

both good teams, but the 04 team is better

February 23, 2008  05:38 PM ET

Yeah I was going to say that nomar

February 23, 2008  05:39 PM ET

not at all, nomarfan, just merely when a fan gets close to a team, they tend to say we, because in this case, they consider themselves to be sox; a part of the sox nation.

February 23, 2008  05:39 PM ET

Man you guys are some sports bullies....

February 23, 2008  05:40 PM ET

lol who?

February 23, 2008  05:41 PM ET

them two? not at all, mate

February 23, 2008  05:44 PM ET

I just find it funny when people call someone out for saying "we". It is a bad habit and very hard to break as a die hard fan.
What is funny is that when I will tell my wife what team I want to win a game. If my team isn't playing. She has a tendency to call them "we", even though we may not even like that team, but are just rooting for them. Like say gambing were legal or I really hated the other team. I always jump her for that, but don't mind it if it is the cowboys or rangers or mavs. Not sure why.

February 23, 2008  05:49 PM ET

that's true, nick.

February 23, 2008  05:54 PM ET

I'm not trying to sound like I got a stick up my **** lol I can be literal that way is all.

February 23, 2008  05:55 PM ET

lol that was funny, coletrain. even if we're on opposite sides currently.

February 23, 2008  05:57 PM ET

i know, I say "we" sometimes too, just stirrin up trouble/ causing conflict/ being bored

February 23, 2008  05:58 PM ET

Sports bully is just a radio term on our station down here. I am one all the time. It doesn't bother me either way. I really don't tend to care what people think. I know what I know. Just stating my opinion and an observation I noticed. I didn't think you had a stick up your ***. Being a sports bully is fun, though I never got it when it was because someone said "we". I would rather tell someone they don't know a lick about what they are preaching(sports wise).

February 23, 2008  05:59 PM ET

lol

February 23, 2008  06:01 PM ET

Yeah nomar is a troublemaker.

"I would rather tell someone they don't know a lick about what they are preaching(sports wise)"

I love doing that. It's great fun.

Yeah it sucks when football is over and their is no baseball either. College hoops don't matter till the tourney.

February 23, 2008  06:03 PM ET

I love doing that. It's great fun.
Coletrain | 02/23/08, 06:01 PM

As Tom Hicks has said " great sucess".
They play it on the radio all the time, down here. I think it's because the opposite is true of his ownership skills.

February 23, 2008  06:07 PM ET

yeah, i hate it when there's no football or baseball going on... i don't know what to do, lol

February 23, 2008  06:08 PM ET

LOL

Gotta love Tom Hanks.

Feb. and March can go real slow if you're not a basketball/hockey fan. Or golf.
