and there is a new team in the league. All current teams must give away one player from their starting lineup to this new team. If you were the Red Sox, who would you get rid of?

I would get rid of J.D. Drew. He has a ridiculous contract and he slumped last year, only hitting .270 with 11 homeruns. Plus he is 32, nearing the end of his prime, he might keep slumping, or worse.

Losing J.D. Drew would mean that a bench player or a prospect from the farm system would have to come up and take his spot and I got a perfect player. Wily Mo Pena. David Ortiz once said that he had "unbelievable power." He showed his power last year, hitting 13 homeruns in a small role. Imagine what he could do if he got 600 at-bats like everyone else?

J.D. Drew is overpaid and slumping and it may be Mo Pena's time to shine. Get rid of Drew and the Sox will be happy.

I've got some bad news for you Dawgee. They traded Wily Mo Pena to the Nationals last fall.

I'd get rid of Julio Lugo. As a leadoff hitter, he's no longer needed because of the emergence of Jacoby Ellsbury. As a shortstop, he had a .237 BA and a staggering 19 errors. Oh, and there's a legitimate prospect in Jed Lowrie who's ready to come up from AAA right now.

JD Drew doesn't have that. There's no good corner outfield prospect in the Red Sox system that can come up right now and produce. They'd either have to sacrifice a lot of power by shifting a center fielder over or they'd have to bring in some veteran who, if they were good, would have been signed by someone else by now.

Also, JD Drew wasn't bad compared to Lugo. I'd take .270 and 11 home runs over .237 and 8 any day of the week. Do I think that JD Drew is overpaid? Yes, I do. Do I think that the Red Sox can afford to pay him his contract? Yes.

JD Drew did hit .270, which, even if you look at the overpayment he's received, is acceptable. He's tolerable defensively in right field (as strange as it must be to play outfield in Fenway). However, the biggest reason I have as to why the Red Sox shouldn't ship him out is the lack of an outfield prospect who's major league ready at this point. Even JD Drew on the downslope of his career is a better risk to take than putting a veteran there who's most likely marginal at best, or putting a starstruck prospect in right. Even though Drew only hit 11 home runs, he's been known to have flukishly strong years out of nowhere, and while the Red Sox could probably survive with him having another similar season to the last, he's got the potential to go for .300, 30 home runs, 100 RBI right now.
