This means AT THIS POINT. So if anyone gets released soon, were not including him on our conversation.
He's never got an opportunity to start anywhere since he has been the backup to the best rb currently in the NFL but I still think he is the most potential to be an above average starter in this league out of this free agent class. Being a Broncos fan, I've seen him play twice a season for the last four seasons. And it's obvious this guy is pretty talented. He has averaged 5.5 yards a carry as a backup but he still has fresh legs since he only has 228 career attempts.
Teams like the Bears, Falcons, and the Texans would be stupid to pass him up.
novanation79 said 02/25, 07:57 PM
I think it's hard to say that he is the best (U) free agent since we really didn't see that much from him being behind Tomlinson like we've seen someone like Julius Jones who is also a (U) free agent that has proven to be a quality down field speedy runner who can get the yards. He was competing with Barber III all year long and I think Barber is clearly better, giving other teams the option to take Julius Jones. If i had to choose, I'd take Jones over Turner for the fact that he has more experience in a tough division like the NFC east. He has been with Dallas for three years now with 3484 total yards, averaging a little over 1000/year. Keep in mind the second and third years on Dallas he's been sharing time with Barber. So he is a proven player who can run, and i believe it would be less of a gamble and smart taking Julius Jones over Michael Turner. Don't get me wrong...i think Turner is a good running back from the brief moments i've seen him due to Tomlinson. You have to go with the experience though. Now I know you'll going to peek at his stats, but remember he was sharing time and they are pretty damn good considering that. Julius Jones is talented.
E4P Is Not So Mad For Max said 02/25, 09:27 PM
You can say the same thing about Turner. Turner was competing with Tomlinson and obviously no one is better than him. And the only reason that Julius got more than double the attempts is because he isnt playing behind maybe the best player in the league. You put Juilus in Turner's role, equal or less touches.
And the only thing Julius prove in Dallas is that he can't carry the full load. He needs a solid backup of equal or greater talent to split carries. Turner on the other hand has fresh legs and the same amount of experience. Both players came out of the same draft and have played four years each. So I dont know where you came up with that number. AND HE IS ABSOLUTELY NOT AVERAGING 1000 YEARS A SEASON! The number is more around 871 yards a season. Hes only broken 1000 once and that was 06 by only 84 yards.
Why would you want to take someone who has already proven they can't be the lone back over something who is ready to prove the exact opposite?
novanation79 said 02/26, 11:55 AM
Okay first i'll talk about the numbers that i came up with
Career Totals (Full) 53 885*** *3484**** 65.7 ...................So that is three years with 3484 total yards. Do the division and that's an average of just over 1000yds. With that said...you keep talking fresh legs..well do you think Julius Jones's legs are worn down from splitting time?.....no. The reason the cowboy's split times with Barber and Jones is because that had two different roles.. barber more as a goaline guy and Jones to run up the field until they realized barber can do both. They just had to much talent in the running back position and two different roles for them, and not so much that he couldn't carry the load for them Cowboys. My argument is that if i'm a team in need of a running back, i'm taking the guy with more experience and who is still young like Jones. I see many comments below about what about Fargas, or Jamal Lewis. I agree with them..i'd take those two guys as well over Turner. Not that Turner is bad from the brief amount of carries, but do we really truly know what he can do. I'm an owner....i would go with experience over what we see from such a limited amount of carries.
E4P Is Not So Mad For Max said 02/26, 10:06 PM
You already realized this but I just wanna say this to our readers, JULIUS JONES HAS PLAYED FOUR SEASONS.
Anyways, there are two reasons Marion replaced Julius. The first, like you stated, is that Marion proved he can do both roles well. The second is that they realized Julius couldn't do either very well. And if he's so premiere like you've talked him up to be, why arent the cowboys resigned him? And its not like they're looking to go for the single back look, there have been lots of talks about them drafting a young rb to replace him. You want to know why the Chargers arent resigning Turner? Its because they know hes talented and is going to get a payday from a team.
JJ has had more carries than Barber all but this previous year. And this previous year he put up an average of 3.6 yards a carry hiding behind Barber who was who the teams were targeting. Of course everyone targets LT and Turner, like the superior back he is, takes advantage of that fact by averaging 5.5 yards a carry. We can both agree that both of these men are not the targets for defenses at the rb position for their previous teams, at least last year for Jones, and yet only one has captilized on that.
novanation79 said 02/27, 11:27 AM
Alright 4 years, sorry i forgot about a year Jones rushed for 819yds and 7TD's in an offense that was based on passing in 2004. Thanks for helping my case. It's not that Jones couldn't do both roles very well, but it's more of a $ issue. The Boys can't afford to keep both, so don't tell me it was based on performance. They can spend money in another position they may need help in. When you get less carries do to having another stud like Barber, numbers go down slightly. You all need to keep in mind that when Turner got MOST of his limited carries, it's when the Charger's are already slaughtering a team in the 3rd and 4th quarter's of the game where defenses tend to not play as hard. Also, keep in mind that he's running with the #1 ranked offensive line in front of him..like Tomlinson. I'm going to talk about pressure now....Jones is a guy who's played under pressure...first in the confines of Notre Dame as opposed NIU..please...and then performing well in Dallas...and we all know Texas football and there maniac fans as well as the much more competitive NFC east during those four years hence the superbowl Giants, NFC champ Eagles, and better D's. Experience over potential.

Report Offensive Comment3. Jamal Lewis - UFA - Cleveland Browns
If 2007 was a test season for Lewis in Cleveland, he???s certainly passed with flying colors. Despite career setbacks over the past several seasons he???s posting his best numbers since 2004. He???s made the most out of his 273 carries (through 14 games), gaining more yardage than he did in 2006 despite more than 40 fewer carries. And for only the second time in his career Lewis has a double digit touchdown total. Unless the Browns decide his contract - which will certainly be more than the $3.5 million total salary this past season - is not worth renewing the 28-year old running back should find a home in Cleveland for at least a few more seasons as he rebuilds his career.

Report Offensive CommentI wouldn't get into a bidding war over Turner and there might be one. Its just a running back and you can get them almost anywhere. Even Turner was a late round draft pick.

Report Offensive CommentYeah but he's an above average back and has potential to be pretty good. And thats deffinately an upgrade for the bears.
