Put Redwings back on the eastern conference, they could easily cruise their way to the finals.

Western conference is stacked with good teams like

Dallas Stars
Anahiem Ducks
Calgary Flames
San Jose Sharks
Minnesota Wild
Nashville Predators
Vancouver Canucks
......

the eastern conference isn't bad, but, they are much more easy to beat. the only competion is..

Ottawa Senators
Pittsburgh Penguins
New Jersey Devils
Carolina Hurricanes and
New york rangers

the west is much better than the east

My argument is only going to attack your TD topic...arguing which conference is better can be saved for another TD

"Easily Cruise their way to the finals"?
--- Thats a very bold statement considering you listed their "only competiton" as

"Ottawa Senators
Pittsburgh Penguins
New Jersey Devils
Carolina Hurricanes and
New york rangers"

You don't think the Canadiens, Bruins or Flyers offer much competiton? (Playoff teams)

Let us remember that Detroit is 2-7-1 in their last 10 and have already lost to the Senators, Thrashers, and Maple Leafs this season.

The Devils, Penguins (8-1-1), Senators, Capitals, Bruins, Flyers, and Lightning all have .500 or better records against the West this season.

Assuming Detroit was the #1 seed in the East and the rest of the East teams got bumped down 1 seed, the matchups would be as followed:

1st Round: Detroit vs. Boston (.500 or better record against the west)
2nd Round: Detorit vs. winner of Carolina/Pittsburgh (would probably get Pittsburgh and their 8-1-1 record and their newly acquired Hossa
if they get by them: They would have to play New Jersey or Ottawa.

How can you say easily cruise their way to the finals?

Your right, but the only reason redwings are doing bad right now, is because nick lidstrom is injured, as soon as he comes back, there's no competition, they beat every team, only team they have trouble with is the blackhawks.

yes Linstrom is injured as is Hasek - both are older players. Who is to say that hey will stay healthy for the playoff run? I mean the playoffs can potentially be 28 games long: that's about a third of the season.

The Red Wings are a great team - don't get me wrong. But to say they would cruise through the Eastern Conference is just plain absurd. The Pens, Devils, and Senators are the tops of the Eastern Conference with Montreal, Philly, Boston, Rangers, and Bruins offering a tough challenege at worst. Every single team in the East could upset the number 1 seed.

Just 2 years ago the Red Wings were the #1 seed and President's trophy winner. They were upset in 6 games by the number 8 seed Edmonton Oilers. My point is this: NO TEAM CRUISES IN THE PLAYOFFS ANYMORE. There is too much parity in today's NHL.

there's not as much competition on the east as compared to the west, oilers are in the west.

The Oilers example was from 2 years ago

That was a pretty convincing argument you had with lots of stats to back it up. The East is very comparable to the West at the top. The top 5 teams as of today in the West are Wings (89) Stars (83) Ducks (79) Flames (74) Sharks (74)
The best teams in the East are the Devils (79) Senators (78) Penguins (77) Canadians (75) and Rangers (72). If you take away the Wings, the rest of those teams are very comparable points-wise. The Wings aren't even the favorite to win the cup in my eyes, so they wouldn't wipe the floor with the east...sorry

WEST IS BETTER

True they have the Avs! But for the TD, I need to see more arguments before I vote.

The Flyers are competition in the Eastern Confernce

Lost against the Sens.... Lidstrom is 1 player. Detroit will fizzle by 2nd round. This year will be an upset cup winner.

My vote goes to the right just because the guy on the left forgot all about the canadiens. He clearly hasn't seen them play lately. Oh yeah, and the total lack of any stats or rational reasoning.
