Sports 24/7 Tourney - Who will win next year's SuperBowl?

I'm going to go out on a limb and pick a completely different team than expected....The Green Bay Packers.

They came within 1 INT of going this season. They are a relatively young team at all positions except QB but if this season was an indicator, age doesn't matter to Favre.

They should be the best team in the NFC North and one of the top 2 in the NFC which means they'll get home field again in the playoffs (it should matter if they don't have to play a cold-weather team again unlike this year agains the GMen).

The Giants showed this year that even a team from the "weaker" NFC can win the SuperBowl if they play a great game.

As much as I like the Pack I just don't see them catching lightning in a bottle again next season like this season. Don't get me wrong, I think they'll be solid; maybe even make the SB, but as far as winning it, I don't see it happening. This is also why I'm not arguing the Pats.

I'm gonna go w/ the Chargers for my argument. They play in a weak division where the Broncos may come close but don't have enough talent to compete w/ them at this time. The Chiefs and Raiders aren't even close right now. The Chargers will be back and healthy next season w/ the same weapons, great o-line, and solid defense which will all be supplemented by the draft and possibly free agency also. Chris Chambers and Rivers have more time to adjust to each other and the offense and the defense is still a good mix of vets and young, hungry players.

The NFC north is tougher than the AFC west and I see the Lions, Vikings, and Bears all being decent teams and maybe posing a real challenge to GB for the division title. Favre will be hard pressed to duplicate this season next season, unfortunately. The Chargers are young and hungry & have arguably the best o-line in the NFL & a top notch Defense to boot.

The biggest problem with the Chargers are the teams they have to go through just to get to the Super Bowl. You have the Pats, Colts, Jags and Steelers either even with the Chargers or ahead of them. As long as Norv Turner is the head coach and Phillip Rivers is the QB, I just don't see them getting to the Super Bowl in that very tough AFC. Even when their defense played the game of their season against the Pats in the AFC Championship game this past season, their Offense couldn't do squat with the ball.

As for the Packers, yes they are in a tight division but all the teams in that division have flaws. The Bears and Vikings don't have a QB and as was shown this past season, injuries to their defense's can be killer. The Lions have a great offense, but no D.

Out of the 2 (Packers and Chargers), the Pack stand the best chance of even making the Super Bowl. In order to win it, you have to be in it and I just don't think the Chargers can get there.

In regards to the teams the Chargers have to "get through", the Pats are the only serious threat, providing their line can still give Brady 10 seconds to find his receivers open and Moss comes back. Other than that, the Chargers, don't forget, BEAT Indy in the playoffs, IN Indy, w/out LT, Gates, OR Rivers. Then they went to NE and put up a huge fight w/ the lack of players they had. They were ONE game away from the SB, just like GB was so I don't see them having less of a shot to get there like you're suggesting.

Pittsburgh greatly overachieved last year w/ a 1st year HC and shoddy pass protection and they will come back down to earth. The Jags, while good, aren't as much a threat through the air and don't have the overall talent the Chargers have. Plus, the conf. the Jags, Colts, NE & Pitts. play in are all tougher than the AFC West, thus making it tougher for them to even get to the playoffs. Also, the AFC South had 3 playoff teams last year, don't forget.

Indy was out of sync due to injuries. Getting past Indy without your main guys is more lucky than good.

When I said less of a shot, I meant because the Chargers are in the AFC where the acknowledged best teams in the NFL reside, their road to the Super Bowl is going to be tougher. They will have to go through Indy, Jax, Pitt, and NE (some combination of those 4 probably. The Packers would have to go through a combination of Dallas, Giants, Seattle and Tampa. Which is the easier road just to get to the Super Bowl?

As for the Packers, they are a very young team that will only improve with time. Favre is playing again like he did 10 years ago. The Chargers best shot was last year and this year. Indy will be healthier and Pitt/Jacksonville will have 1 more year under their belt. Rivers looks like this past season he was backsliding instead of improving.

So in my opinion between the teams we choose, GB has the better shot of making the Super Bowl and once they get there have a good chance to do what the Giants did this season and upset the more-powerful AFC team.

I don't think Pittsburgh will win the AFCN or maybe even make the playoffs because they've got one of the toughest schedules i've ever seen next season, seriously.

Jax has to get through the Titans and Colts, which won't be easy, I wouldn't write them into the playoffs just yet either, but they've got a better shot than Pitts. does IMO.

Just because of the talent and teams records this season I wouldn't go counting all these top 4 teams you're comparing as being amazing or even making the playoffs. I would even risk to say that the Saints may come back and be a tougher opponent to beat than Tampa Bay. Also, don't forget about the Eagles and Redskins too. Any combo you can put together for the NFC is still formidable compared to any AFC combo. The superbowl showed that we can't assume the AFC is stronger than the NFC just because of the teams that are in each respective conference. If that's all we went by then yes, your comparison of the top 4 teams that SD and GB must go through would be correct. But, like you've said a couple times, the superbowl showed us otherwise.

Good luck Ed Reed. I don't think we've ever TDed against each other before.

i like both picks,so ill just have to wait for more arguments

NFC north hard? its up for grabs every year...all you have to do is play good for one season...every year its who has a break out season...it never comes down to a close race....

Report Offensive Comment

I like the Packers pick better. Right now, pick goes to rstowe. It could change if the arguments are good enough from Ed Reed.

Report Offensive Comment

Hmm, I don't think either will win, to be honest. I will wait to see the arguments.

Packer pick is much better......but i honestly think the Giants will repeat..especially with a confident Manning...if not, the Patriots as much as I hate em

"Favre will be hard pressed to duplicate this season next season, unfortunately. The Chargers are young and hungry & have arguably the best o-line in the NFL & a top notch Defense to boot."

Favre never had all these wide reciever options like he does now...only gonna get better my friend. Bears suck

Report Offensive Comment

I could go either way even though I don't think either of these teams will win it. However, there is no garauntee that Farve will return which in my opinion will make or break the Packers for next season.

I like the looks of that little white furry doglike image. More butter!!!

Cant name any weakness on the chargers squad but rivers at times.

ya i am a packers fan but i was so surprised at them this year and now they have a great nucleus now its the gm's job to fill small holes and keep the players together and not lose free agency. if they get a good draft class i agree they could definatly win. If favre comes back if not they will have 2 wait one year and only ONE year

Report Offensive Comment

Obviously, I'm gonna vote Pack, but with good reasons, many have already been mentioned.
They face no major losses in FA, They're young and gettin' better, they have good team chenistry, very few weak spots. In FA and the draft they can look for depth at certain positions, I'd lke to see them shore up the secondary a bit, but in the draft they are in a position to just take the best player available no matter the position.
I don't think the caught "lightning in a bottle", they're just a very solid team and one that will definitely have to be reckoned with next season.

Cooper, if you said: "Better argument to the guy in the crazy hat. What's wrong with wearing a Stetson? Or horns?" to Bill "the Butcher" Cutting, from gangs of new york, he would "paint paradise square with your blood, two coats..."

god i love that movie...one of the best characters EVER. and best acting performances EVER, hands down.
