Just to clear it up for the people that dont read the comments--his last two pitchers were Randy Myers and Ron Dibble.

Now, on to the argument. My team exemplifies passion for the game while having a strong mix of talent. How can you look back at Pokey Reese's career and Keith Lockhart's career and say he didnt play the game right? You cant, because they did play the game the right way. My batters are clutch, as can be exemplified in the ability to go yard late in games--Ray Lankford. Kevin Young is a true hitter who would flourish in this lineup.

My pitching staff is amazing. When Van Poppel and Bottalico arent throwing 110 mph, Nitowskit and Sasaki are. The one problem with this staff though, is that the RP never gets to pitch. Kevin Tapani, Esteban Yan, and Denny Neagle constantly go too deep into games to the point where I just hand the ball over to Sasaki.

And because my offense is so good, he never gets any save opportunities.

I'd ballpark that this team would finish about 113-49. If you couldnt tell, this argument is pretty sarcastic to say the least.

Nice argument. I would say my team is the "bigger disapppintment" because they had the bigger potential to do more damage in the league. But what happened? They all faded away.

My team has Grieve, a former Rookie of the Year winner who turned out nothing more than a bust. Ventura, who was one the better 3B on the league and a Gold Glove candidate. Where has he gone?

You want to talk about players who can go with the long ball, You can't get any better candidates than my lineup. In '99, Bichette hit 34 HR and Ventura tallied in 32. In 2000, Burnitz hit 31 HR and Hidalgo had 44 HR. Baseball fans took notice on all these guys, but they all left our memories at some point or another. Hidalgo was great for a few seasons.

So with that said, My offense has it all, The speed of Offerman, the defense of Ventura, and the power of Hidalgo and Bichette.

As far as pitching, I have endurance and stamina on my end because my starters are all proven workhorse. Also, my closers of Dibble and Myers are the "nasty boys" who threw a lot of heat that feared almost all opposing batters.

My team would go 98-64. But the pitching staff would take my team deep into the playoffs.

battle of the ages

I know. It should be fun. Good luck awc.

February 28, 2008  09:55 AM ET

JT Snow? No way man! Everything else looks good though....

February 28, 2008  10:20 AM ET

I don't get it. Charles Johnson had a good career and retired. Robin Ventura did the same. Kazuhiro Sasaki had some family crisis and elected to move back to Japan. Ben Grieve was never that great, last I heard of him he was kicking around in the White Sox farm system in 06-- I mean... seriously, what are you trying to prove? you can remember people? What is the argument here? I remember Pat Listach. I remember Charlie Hough, Kent Hrbek, John Burkett, I mean what is the point here... seriously?

February 28, 2008  10:25 AM ET

JT went from the GIants to the Red Sox for part of a seaon and then retired. He is now a coach for the Giants.

Offerman charged the mound with a bat in the minors(i think).....

Lankford retired and lived half an hour from me....

The point is that this is different. Im sure I don't just speak for myself when I say that maybe Im tired of seeing the same throwdowns over, and over, and over again. To answer your question--the point of this is because its fun and different. As a fan, I like looking back and saying "hahaha, remember Benny Agbayani"?.

Im sorry if you dont get it, but this is just a way fans can get together and have a good laugh, not every throwdown is abotu winning and losing, Lilwound.

February 28, 2008  10:28 AM ET

UGh, hit the key early. My last 2 pitchers are Randy Myers and Rob Dibble.

February 28, 2008  10:29 AM ET

Yeah, I can't say that I understand this TD. I remember all these guys, plus about 1,000 other guys who aren't on the lists. These lists don't really have a common theme- some of these guys were good, some were terrible, and some like ben Grieve were "the next big thing" that never worked out.

I'm going to pass.

February 28, 2008  10:36 AM ET

This is probably the strangest TD I've ever been involved in. But I will try to argue it nonetheless.

February 28, 2008  10:40 AM ET

awc team gets my vote because it is worse so in this case that means better....I think.

February 28, 2008  11:07 AM ET

I took it on a different angle rstowe, I thought it would be which team illustrated the bigger potential and talent but was never heard from again.

February 28, 2008  11:12 AM ET

not every throwdown is abotu winning and losing, Lilwound.
awc1230 | 02/28/08, 10:26 AM

No no, I'm down with that. and I'm down with creativity. But are you just stroking your egos by seeing who can remember the most obscure players? But a lot of these guys aren't obscure. A lot of them had full careers and retired. some of them were supposed to be good, but then weren't. Some of them had a good season or two and then nothing. What's your criteria? What's your point?

February 28, 2008  12:01 PM ET

Desi Relaford is awesome!!! He was good with the Mariners. I don't know what happened after he got shipped to KC. Cool Throwdown. Its original and not same ol' "who's the best QB?" re-hashed over and over.

February 28, 2008  12:03 PM ET

Todd Van ......Is that Todd Vanpopple. He was never good. Ricky Botallico hahahahahahahaaha. The common thread with a lot of these guys (not all) is 'roids.

February 28, 2008  12:19 PM ET

Lilwound,

there really is no point, which is why this is different from every other TD on this site. We see the same throwdowns over, and over, and over, and over again. I was just trying to have some fun and get a couple of laughs in (ben grieve, desi relaford, ricky botallico)

February 28, 2008  12:26 PM ET

Good TD awc. It is different from the usual TD's on this site, and that's why I took it because I wanted something new. The result might not end in my favor but it was fun not to mention interesting. Thanks for the challenge.

February 28, 2008  03:42 PM ET

My team clearly has the more prominent players at one point in time, so hence people are more likely to ask "What happened to them?" because they stood out.as opposed to the more obscure players awc had on his list. I guess this TD can be taken in different ways.
