I will say Real Madrid. By income, they are the richest (for 2006-2007) but they are also the most successful. They have won 30 La Liga titles and 9 Champions League titles, as well as several other minor titles. None of the other great clubs of Europe can even come close to that. They were named "Best Club of the 20th Century" by FIFA, and were even found to be the biggest and most popular club in the world by a case study at Harvard University.

Madrid is the Champion of Champions, and therefore the most Prestigious Club.

Im gonna have 2 go with Manchester United
they are based at the Old Trafford in Manchester, and is arguably the most popular football club in the world
-330 million supporters worldwide
-5% of the world's population
-have played in the top division of English football since 1975
-their average attendance is higher than any other team in English football for all but six seasons
-The club is one of the most successful in English football; for over twenty years, since the 1986 season they have won 18 major honours, more than any other Premier League club. They are the Premier League's reigning champions, and have won the Premier League 16 times. In 1968, they became the first English club to win the European Cup, beating Benfica 4???1 and they won a second European Cup in 1999. They also hold the record for the most FA Cup titles with 11
-Since the late 1990 the club has been one of the richest in the world with the highest revenue of any football club, and is currently the second richest club in the world based on revenue and is also the most valuble club in the world
As you can see, all signs point to Manchester United as the most prestigious football club in the world

The anticipated choice: Man U. However, much like the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL, Man U are all about image with little of the substance.

Witness: The "330 million" you quote is from a very dubious source, the British tabloid the Daily Mail. Its based on a study that interviewed 1000 people in 21 countries, then somehow came up with 330 million. Whereas the study I cite, showing Real Madrid is the most popular, was undertaken by HARVARD UNIVERSITY.

While Man U may be the most successful English club, They have only won 2 Champions League Titles, whereas Los Blancos have won 9. Man U's 16 titles pales in comparison to Madrid's 30 La Liga titles.

And your last argument - Man U is second richest - well guess who's #1?
Thats right, the most Prestigious Club, Real Madrid.

Forfeited Turn

Ouch! The dreaded "Forfeited Turn" argument - How will I counter? May I present to you Chewbacca... JK

While Harvard seems to think Real is tops with the fans, what about the best players of the game themselves? Well lets see

David Beckham - left Man U for .... Real Madrid
Zinedine Zidane - left Juventus to join ... Real Madrid
van Nistlerooy - left Man U for .... Real Madrid
Ronaldo - left Inter Milan to join ... Real Madrid
Luis Figo - left FC Barcelona for ... Real Madrid

Clearly, the top players in the world would want to show their talent playing for the Most Prestigious Club in the World. That Club, without a doubt, is

Real Madrid

Sorry i didnt respond. I was in montreal for buisness. :(
OK now...
Ronaldo is in Milan
Figo is on Inter
Beckham is in LA
So most of them went to Real Madrid, but they also left Real Madrid
Just so we are clear, did u notice one thing in common about all those names u listed?? They are all old players who went to finish their careers in Real, but most of them decided to leave anyways.

While u may think that old players coming to the team is prestigious, I am here to tell you it is not.
Look at Man U. The players that go there are extremely talented young players. They go there because they know that all eyes will be on them, and they can make a name for themselves at the prestigious club MAN U.
Christiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, and Carlos Tevez!!!!!!
These are arduably 3 of the best young players in the world, and they all came to Man U to show people what they are made of with the worlds most prestigious club.
Does that not tell you something??
The old players want to get away from all that attention, and the young players try to get into the spotlight.
Old --> Madrid (away from all that media attention)
Young --> MAN U (into the spotlight)

Most recognizable would have to go to Man United.

February 28, 2008  04:15 PM ET

very true LIFER them or Barcelona, but Man U is completly out of the world in fame

February 28, 2008  04:15 PM ET

I know nothing about Soccer (or Football here in the UK) except that Man U is owned by Americans, Ronaldo is out for a long time, Beckham is married to a Spice Girl and the Brits love their Football! LOL

February 28, 2008  04:21 PM ET

But its "Most Prestigious" - Man U has only 2 Champions titles - one way back when it was known as the European Cup, compared to 9 by Madrid, and have only 16 league titles compared to 30 by Madrid.

They don't even compare in Prestige.

February 28, 2008  04:22 PM ET

Prestigious? Please define...

Most recognizable club: Manchester United
Most successful: Boca, Barca, Bayern and that's just the Bs ManU would be on that list, AC Milan, Inter, Juventus, PSG, Real

This is a tricky one because you don't really define prestige.

February 28, 2008  04:31 PM ET

^Yes^ - that is what makes it an argument.

February 28, 2008  04:33 PM ET

I would say Real Madrid, putting the entire history of soccer in perspective.

February 28, 2008  04:34 PM ET

this is a tough one... i guess it depends on what generation we're dealing with

February 28, 2008  04:37 PM ET

I don't think you understand the concept here. To say a team is the "most prestigious" you have to define prestige. If not you can go by fan base. The team with the most registered fans is Benfica if I'm not mistaken. Is fan base prestige? Is it simply the number of trophies? If it's just trophies then this TD is a waste of time.

February 28, 2008  04:38 PM ET

I face the winner of this. Hooray!

February 28, 2008  04:40 PM ET

How the crap did I not get invited to a soccernation tourney? WHERE'S MY INVITE?!

February 28, 2008  04:51 PM ET

no invites. it was a signup thing

February 28, 2008  04:52 PM ET

February 28, 2008  04:53 PM ET

Let's see who can shout louder over the internet. BAYERN!

February 28, 2008  05:25 PM ET

CELTIC... dammit... your lucky I cant change the font...

February 29, 2008  02:10 AM ET

Eitherway every one of these teams trumps the Yankees

February 29, 2008  09:17 AM ET

dude it looks like viking copied and pasted this. He spelled honor the way British people spell it "honour" in the first arguement

February 29, 2008  11:23 AM ET

The Canadians do that too. They spell center - c-e-n-t-r-e too.

He's not cheating.

February 29, 2008  07:19 PM ET

Hopefully, people will read the arguments before voting on this.

February 29, 2008  07:25 PM ET

You understand the top players left United for Real in the twilight of there careers just looking for $$$ while the best young players head to United. And United and Real traditionally change spots for the title of worlds richest club.

Once again you have to define "prestige"

United may have won a good 5 CL titles if it werent for the Munich air disaster. They unanimously had the best club in the world in the 50s but then Munich occured and Real went on to win like 4 of therer 9 titles.

And United werent even allowed into the CL tournament (called European Cup then) a year after it was started. REal won the inagural one. Plus, British teams were banned from the European Cup for 5 years after Heysel. They should be the most succesful.

And United traditionally have the most merchandise sale of any team in the world.
