Over/Under: The Mets Winning 95 Games

I predict over. The Mets have what may be the best pitcher in the National League now in Santana. They have a deep lineup and a strong defense. They've got a true leadoff hitter in Reyes. They have bona fide home run hitters in Beltran, Delgado, and even Wright. Their left side of the infield may be the best in baseball, save the duo playing in the Bronx. 100 Wins is not out of reach for the Mets. More arguments to come.

I'll take the under.

Here's some stats for you:
2007 teams over 95 wins: 2 (Boston and Cleveland each with 96 - no NL teams over 90) (2 of the best starting rotations in the league)
2006: 3: Yanks and Mets both have 97

So in the last 2 years there have been 5 teams combined that bettered 95 wins and the best in that strech was only 2 games above.

Do you remember the Mets collapse last year? Were you one of the oogles of Mets fans calling for Randolph's head? Now 95+ wins?

The fact is this: The Mets are in one of the toughest divisions in baseball with the Phillies and Braves offering tough games. If the Mets were in an easy division I might say 95 wins will happen, but not in the NL East.

How many games has Santana played so far for the Mets? How about you let the Mets play some games before you start calling for 100 wins.

Besides Santana, their rotation has a lot of questions. How effective will Pedro be? Pedro and Hernandez are 36 and 41 will they last the entire year? Oliver Perez is inconsistent at best.

Santana is a huge acquisiton, but the Mets don't have the Pitching depth needed for 95+ wins

95 is possible, but less than 95 is probable.

The Mets don't have a very good bullpen, and there are questions about the rotation. How well will Delgado play? Will both Wright AND Reyes stay healthy the entire year?

If i had to bet,(i don't on baseball) I would say that the mets win 89 to 93 games.

yea, thats the range i'm thinking too

To win 95 to 100 games, the entire team would have to play up to their highest potential. Nobody could have a bad year.

March 1, 2008  12:30 PM ET

And teams beat Santana's **** for 33 homeruns last year. Is he losing it?

March 1, 2008  12:32 PM ET

The Mets aren't even a sure bet to win 88 games let alone 95.

March 1, 2008  12:33 PM ET

Even the Cardinals hit Johan's **** around. The Cardinals!

March 1, 2008  12:34 PM ET

If i were the Mets, i would watch his **** carefully. They need it to perform big time this year.

March 1, 2008  12:35 PM ET

IF the Mets have another bad year, Randolph just might get his **** canned. He needs the team to at least make the playoffs.

Did you know that the best way to make an **** run is to wave a carrot in front of it? It's true.

March 1, 2008  01:02 PM ET

See you later, i need to stop saying **** now. peace...

'And teams beat Santana's **** for 33 homeruns last year. Is he losing it?'

yeah...he was 7th in the AL for ERA, 1st in WHIP, 2nd in Ks, 3rd in BAA and 6th in IP...only SP in A: that was top 7 in all 5 categories and the only SP in the AL in the top 3 in 3 of the categories...he gave up more than 4 runs in only 3 of his 33 starts...WOW, yeah, he got his aas beat...

He had a better year than 95% of pitchers EVER have....and this was an OFF year...

Now he gets to face inferior NL line ups...

Duquesne's trying for 100 |

Whooo there. The Mets are in one of the toughest division in the NL. Put the Mets or the Phillies in the AL East or Central and either team would be LUCKY to be the Blue Jays.

But you're point's well taken. It is a "competitive" division amongst itself and I'll burn down my roster barn if the Mets win 96 games.
