Lets compair
Carmona - 19-8 3.06 era
Verlander-18-6 3.66 era
Both Verlander and Carmona are good pitchers but Carmona has the edge.Carmona gives up less runs and was a key to the tribes success. While Verlander may have good numbers Carmonas are better and they will get better since he will have a season under his belt.
Webb-18-10 ,3.01 era,1.19 whip
Sabathia-19-7,3.21 era,1.14 whip
Both pitchers are great but I think Webb is better.Webb played for a worse team and still had 18 wins and a 3.01 era.I mean the d-backs offense stunk so Webb never had the support that Sabathia had,and Webb just had one less win.The d-backs offense has got better and Webb is destined for a 20 plus win season.
Capps-2.28 era 18 saves
Cordero-2.98 era 44 saves
Even though Cordero has more saves he has a worse era.I mean Capps wasent even the closer intill the end of the season and he still got 18 saves.Plus Cordero is now playing for a bad reds team and his numbers are going to go down.
K-Rod -5-2,2.81 era,40 saves
JJ Putz -6-1 1.38 era 40 saves
Putz has the adventage here but K-Rod is still a good closer. He has a much higher era but 2.81 is still better than most closers.

I took Justin Verlander for many reasons.
Fine, one of them was because I am a Detroit homer.
The other reasons is that he is younger, has already been to an All-Star Game AND a World Series, won Rookie of the Year, won over 17 games in his first two years, and he is ready to start opening day this year. No other pitcher has done that in his first two years, that's right, not even Carmona.
Plus Verlander is younger.
Are you kidding? Arizona had a fantastic offense. Chris B. Young, Justin Upton, Eric Byrnes, Orlando Hudson, Tony Clarke, and lots of others. Plus, Webb didn't face dangerous AL hitters. He pitched in a division full of offensivly challenged teams.
Capps ERA would of probably went up if he played more games and 44 saves is exellent. ERA means nothing to a closer. If my closer had a 10.00 ERA and still had 40 saves, I'd be extremly happy. Cordeo and Capps difference in ERA isn't that big anyways.
I'd say that K-=Rod and Putz are about even but the tie-breaker: ERA. In that case, I'd say that J.J. Putz is a tiny bit better, but not a whole lot.

Right now I like Dawgee's team, but I'll wait for arguments.

Report Offensive CommentVote to Jim L, Santana is the ace of any pitching staff. You need a bit more in a career than what Peavy has to bump off Johan.
