You wanted to TD so here ya go.
You seemed like a Prince Fielder fan, so I figued you'd disagree with me on this. If you agree with me I guess we could call it a draw. Or just turn it down. I dont really know how that works.
Basically, my main reasoning for thinking he won't hit 50 or more is just the fact that it's hard to hit 50 in one season let alone back to back. From what I found, only 5 guys have done it in back to back seasons.
dyhard is Modern Guilt said 03/02, 08:01 PM
I will probably lose, but I'll take it anyway.
I say that he will hit 50 or more this season.
I know that all the odds are against him, but if those 5 guys can do it, then Prince Fielder can.
He has great power, and is able to hit a home run, very easily. He can hit a home run out of Petco park with ease. He won't have a problem hitting 50 or more home runs again.
He is young, and has a lot of power. He will hit 50 or more home runs this year also.
Last year, he became the youngest player ever to hit 50 home runs in a season, and hit the most in Brewer's history. He will do that again, and hit 50 or more this year.
Prince Fielder is a great, young player, and he has a ton of power. He has so much power, that 60 home runs, a reach, but is possible for this young player, and I say that 60 home runs is possible for him.
He is such a good player, and 50 home runs will happen, again, for him this year.
Stauff Nation TB said 03/02, 08:15 PM
That was pretty redundant, but OK.
Here's the 5 guys who hit 50 HRs at least 2 seasons in a row:
Babe Ruth (1920-21) #3 on all time home run list
Mark McGuire (1996-99) #8
Ken Griffey Jr (97-98) #6
Sammy Sosa (98-01) #5
Alex Rodriguez (01-02) #17
Two of the guys on that list (possibly 3 or 4) were jacked up on steroids at the time. I'll avoid that topic though.
So prior to 1996, only one player had hit 50+ two years in a row in the MLB's 127 year history (league was founded in 1869)
The other 4 reached the milestone in the Home Run/ super-secret-steroid use Era.
Think of all the greatest hitters of the game who haven't reached that milestone. Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Frank Robinson, Harmon Killebrew, etc.
Saying that Prince would do it would basically ensure him as being one of the greatest home run hitters of all time.
It's possible, but I really doubt it. He's only got 80 career home runs after 3 seasons in the league.
dyhard is Modern Guilt said 03/02, 08:24 PM
As you can tell, Babe Ruth, Ken Griffey Jr, and A-ROD.
Those are some great home run hitters that didn't take steriods.
Babe Ruth, one of the greatest home run hitters of all time. Prince Fielder has more power than Babe Ruth did, and he will be able to hit 50+ next year to.
Hank Aaron did not have that many home runs in a season. I believe, I may be wrong here, but Hank Aaron never had a season where he hit more than 40 home runs. Prince Fielder has already done that.
Actually, it was in 2 seasons, not 3. He doesn't ONLY have 80 career home runs, he HAS 80 career home runs.
He has unbelieveably a lot of power, and he is just able to hit a lot of home runs. He will get walked a little more this year, but Ned Yost will put Fielder in a position where he will get some good pitchers to hit, so Ryan Braun can get walked, or he can get crappy pitches.
Fielder will have some more chances to hit home runs, and he has a lot of power to do this, so look for him to hit 50+ home runs this year.
Stauff Nation TB said 03/02, 09:06 PM
Technically it's 3 seasons. He played 39 games in 05.
Ya Fielder has power. Any player who hits a lot of home runs in a season has power. But just because he's got power, and he's capable of hitting 50 (obviously) doesn't mean he will.
Saying ANYONE will hit 50 home runs in a season is a stretch.
In the history of the MLB, only 25 guys have ever hit over 50 home runs in a season. 25 guys in the tens of thousands of players who have played professionally.
And you would be surprised to see some of the names. Greg Vaughn, Luis Gonzalez, Brady Anderson, George Foster, Hack Wilson, Albert Belle and Cecil Fielder are all names that aren't considered to be one of baseball's greatest hitters. All these guys had power and talent but were only able to do it once in their careers. I'm sure many were expected to do it a few times, but it never happened.
My point is that just because a guy did it once doesn't mean he will do it again. He can. He would probably like to. But chances are he won't.
In MLB's history, only 9 guys have been able to hit 50 home runs twice in their careers. Like I said before, only 5 have done it consecutively.
The chances are against him on this
dyhard is Modern Guilt said 03/02, 09:57 PM
Fielder has power and he is capable of hitting 50 home runs, doesn't that usually mean that he will?
There aren't a lot of players who are capable of hitting 50 home runs without steriods.
Just because only 25 players have hit 50 home runs in a season, doesn't mean that Fielder can't do it twice.
It might be a stretch, but I'm saying it, and I'm saying 50 home runs isn't a stretch. I'm saying 60 home runs for Fielder is a stretch.
All of those players had a lot of power, and that is the reason why the hit 50 home runs in a season.
The guy, Prince Fielder, is a great hitter, and has a lot of power. He can hit like Babe Ruth, Ken Griffey Jr., and Alex Rodriguez.
Prince Fielder is a great hitter, and has power like Babe Ruth had.
He is a great hitter, and I'm looking for him to get 50 home runs.
Well, look for it to now be 10 players to hit home runs twice, and 6 players that have done it consecutively as Prince Fielder joins them this year.
Prince Fielder has so much power, and that is why he will do it.
