Rules

National Anthem
1) 1 person
2) American

Halftime
1) 4 artists (a band counts as 2 artists)
2) Everyone must be alive

you just pick, then i'll pick and argue, then you argue, then....
well you should know how its done

I guess i'm a bit bored so i'll play along lol.

National Anthem:
The winner of this years American Idol (possibly David Archuleta, the favorite in the competition so far)

Halftime:
1: Eagles
2: Bob Dylan

ha alright
i got a feeling were gonna differ a litttle bit, but....

National Anthem:
with Jimi and Marvin not around (R.I.P.), I'm gonna have to go Whitney Houston. tough to pick over my girl Mimi, but Whit is better overall. No idol's voice, except maybe Syesha, could compare to her.

Halftime:
I'm going 2 bands too.
1) Child Rebel Soldier - a newly formed group,CRS, is a rap group comprised of Kanye West (the Rebel), Pharrell Williams (the Soldier), and Lupe Fiasco (the Child). Three very popular rappers. Listen to the song Us Placers. Sooooooo Good, can't wait for the album to drop.
2) U2 - one of the best live bands of all time. If you think they put out good songs on their cd's, you should see them live, its insane. soo many good songs that can get a crowd going nuts.

This is popular music man. This is what the Superbowl needs! Not the Rolling Stones, Prince, or Tom Petty. No disrespect to any of them, just not right for today. Same thing with Dylan and the Eagles. I think there actually worse, in terms of keeping a bunch of football fans and TV viewers entertained.

Whitney Houston? I think her rendition of the National Anthem at Superbowl XXV can never be topped. It would be a shame for her to come out of seclusion and try and duplicate what she has perfected before. In 1991 she was on top of the world. A decade and a half later, and a few broken crack pipes, I highly doubt she can hit the high notes as she did in her younger years.

I would have to say U2 was an excellent pick. But CRS? Uh no. As I stard in my comments below, after the Janet/Justin fiasco, they have been mellow and catering to the older viewers. Paul McCartney in 2005, The Rolling Stones in 2006, Prince in 2007, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in 2008....Child Rebel Soldiers in 2009? Is it just me or does that seem a bit odd?

The Superbowl demographics show that nearly half the viewers range from ages 25 to 54. Do you seriously think the older viewers would accept Kanye West, Pharrell & Lupe Fiasco as their halftime performers?

I have to agree with you & say this is about popular music. But what your definition of popular music & the general publics definition may differ. The Eagles & Bob Dylan are among some of the best-selling POPULAR music artist in history

yeah perhaps mariah carey,(or mary j. blige) would have been a better pick for national anthem. but personally i would love to see her come back and be great again. but most people don't really care for the N.A. anyway. WhaEv
-Yeah, i figured i would hear some janet/justin. but like you said they went mellow, and quite frankly, it sucks. that why i believe to have "Best possible national anthem/halftime show for next years Superbowl" the No Fun League needs to change it up. maybe 45 and up wont like CRS that much, but U2 will keep them from doing something else. and for people younger than that, they will definently enjoy the show, both acts. BTW, CRS isn't hardcore gangsta rap. its intelectual rap, with incredable lyrics (Lupe) and the best beats in the game(Kanye and Pharell).
-and yes i know U2 played in 02, but it one of the best halftime shows of all time. plus they have new music, and you saw what they did at the saints opener too. the NFL has a good relationship with them, and they perform well for us fans. if its not broke don't fix it!
-i don't wanna have to play halo (what i did last halftime) or watch something else. i want to watch the whole thing, including halftime

WhaEv? Great rebuttal there Johan lol.

National Anthem, I personally don't care who sings it but there are few people out there who do. Why not take the winner of Americas top show, American Idol, and have them showcase there skills? Last year Jordin Sparks, the current Idol winner, sang it so there may be a trend in the making.

Here is how I see things...How many people from the ages of 18-30 actually watch the COMPLETE halftime shows? My guess is not that many. Halftime is usually a time to take a break from the tv and go have another brew or mingle with your friends. The older crowd are usually the ones stuck on the couch and not leaving their spots. Who do you think they would rather hear? CRS or The Eagles?

When I chose my picks I went with the best REALISTIC choices. The Eagles were actually rumored to perform this past year but was bumped for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. So my guess is that they are the frontrunners for XLIII. U2? Love them, great choice but they performed 6 years ago! Recycling artist every few years will get old. They put out a new ablum in '04, 1 album. What more can they bring to the halftime show with that we hadnt seen 6 years ago?

Anthem person must be alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

March 3, 2008  07:11 PM ET

That certainly would aid the performance....

March 3, 2008  07:12 PM ET

ill wait for arguments...but if anybody has seen dylan in concert...you'll have more fun at a retirement home...he is so lame! Love his music though...

March 3, 2008  07:13 PM ET

Eagles did come out with a news CD recently, although in my opinion it wasn't good, their classics are the best, although its not much of a football type atmosphere music

March 3, 2008  07:14 PM ET

I don't know, retirement homes aren't much fun......

March 3, 2008  07:14 PM ET

Kobe was conversing with Frank in one of his tds regarding NMI, so i guess they made a pack to go onto each members tds and vote against them lol. I dont mind losing, but at least dont make it so obvious lol

March 3, 2008  07:21 PM ET

March 3, 2008  07:22 PM ET

i personally think the drunken fans would appreciate some good music.

March 3, 2008  07:22 PM ET

I hate it when Frank drags his friends from eharmony over here to fannation......

March 3, 2008  07:23 PM ET

They cant do lively half time shows since Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson got freaky with it and did the strip show. So yeah the Eagles would be great, jammin out to Hotel California while eating my sweet 5 layer chip dip. hmmm (drooling homer simpson sound)

March 3, 2008  07:23 PM ET

In any case, this would be my list:

1. Bruce Springsteen
2. Bon Jovi
3. Peter Frampton
4. AC DC
