Actually he did before he played with the cubs just incase you didnt know.
Victor Martinez in front of Mauer??
Martinez career batting average is 301%
Mauer's is 313%
Josh beckett had 20 wins last yr
Santana went 15-13
(And Beckett led his team to the 07 chamionship)
Rollings and reyes you can go both ways but utley instead of Soriano.
Soriano brings that nesaccery punch in any lineup. He has power having 30+ homers in the last 3 yrs and has a batting average and also is one of the few who did the 40/40/40.
My team has a powerful lineup but is still has tremendous speed
Trent Votes McCain said 03/04, 07:40 AM
I actually did know, but I didn't think that was fair to move postions.
Anyway we'll start with starting pitching. As JimL said below, Beckett was absouloutly nothing before he got to the Sox. In 2006 he had an ERA over 5.00. Plus, he is very injury prone and the only time he did not go to the DL was in 2006 where a bad season was reward. Plus, Johan Santana had no backbone to his team. He was not helped by any of his hitters except Justin Moraneu. It's not fair to say Johan was bad when he had no help. Plus just a stat here, last season he was 7th in the AL for ERA and 2nd for K's.
Soriano to Utley? You can't compare SORIANO IS AN OUTFIELDER! But let's not forget what happened to Utley last season. He came of a hourendus injury and still kept himself in the MVP race. Utley is the best 2nd basemen in all of baseball.
First of all Jimmy "Rollings" and Jose Reyes cant go either way, Rollins is better. He was the MVP, had 20+ in Doubles, Triples, Home Runs, and Stolen Bases. Reyes didn't come close to breaking that record. Rollins is the best. There is no doubt in my mind Rollins would be taken over Reyes.
Ran out of room, wait till next argument

I like the Mauer. But, Soriano at 2B? That's just funny.

Beckett had a great year, but the year before, 2006, he had an ERA over 5.00...which Beckett shows up this year? He's also only had one season where he didn't hit the DL...and that was 2006...
Santana was 7th in the AL for ERA, 1st in WHIP, 2nd in Ks, 3rd in BAA and 6th in IP...only SP in AL that was top 7 in all 5 categories and the only SP in the AL in the top 3 in 3 of the categories...Beckett only got him in ERA...barely...Santana got him in everything else...and Beckett had the advantage of knowing he'd get great run support pretty much every game...
Santana only gave up more than 4 runs in a game 3 times all year and STILL had 13 losses...Beckett only had 6 games all season where he didn't get AT LEAST 4 runs of suport..give Santana the same kind of supoort and Santana has, at the very most, 6 lossesso, you know, judging pitchers by wins and losses is not good...
In the last 4 years (he became a full time starter in 2004)...Santana's AVERAGES are 2.90 ERA, 245 Ks/ 50BBs, .210 BAA, .99 WHIP, 227 IP... WHO HAS DONE THAT?! Beckett has never had one season like Santana's AVERAGE over the last 4 years...

Whats the Cy Young count on Beckett to Santana?
Santana is the best. No one comes close to him. To compare Beckett to him is just disrespectful to THE Johan Santana. I've said it before and I will say it again. When he retires, he will take a top 5 pitchers of all time spot and of all sports and all positions THAT is the hardest top five to get into.

what you lost my vote by saying that Maurer is better than Martinez. Maurer may have a better BA but the doesn't have power numbers to back up his BA that Martinez does. For that reason martinez is better. I would have taken Hanley Ramirez and second and David Wright and Third but that is just me. In right I would have taken Magglio Ordonez. That's just me. however I am voting for trent because of the Chase Utley and Matt Holliday two of the best 5 players in the league. Oh and that Soriano no longer plays 2b.

Soriano is old and a defensive liability. I'll take Utley almost without hesitation every time. I'll also take Holliday over Ramirez as he is a MAJOR defensive liability.

sorianno is an out fielder and his # dont compete if you compare him to other outfielders, but trying to squeeze his #'s in at 2nd is just silly. hes never coming out off the outfield and who cares what he did 4 or 5 years ago? utley won my vote on this one, not a misplaced stat filler.

Jim, YOU SHOULD QUIT CALLING BECKETT AN INJURY RISK. Questioning whether he's as good as he was last year is fair game, especially after his 2006 showing; BUT he's averaged over 194 innings the last three seasons and gone OVER 200 in his past two years.
I really enjoy talking baseball with you, and usually you do know your stuff, but everytime Beckett is brought up you go on this "injury risk" trip that no longer seems to be based in reality.
That being said, on history alone, Johan is better than Beckett, but the injury risk is a REAL stretch.

Also, Mauer over Martinez, at this point is CRAZY. Talk about an injury risk.

tell you what, if he goes another season without being on the DL, I'll stop saying he's an injury risk....he's only been able to do it once in 6 seasons...
I hope he stays healthy though, I really do...
