The D-Backs have more potential than any other team in the MLB.
- Mark reynolds chris young, carlos quintin are just some of the players they have that have a great chance of being future all-stars.

it's gotta be the Devil Rays. they've only six players over thirty and most of their young players have the potential to be absolutely filthy--Young, Upton, Dukes (despite troubles off the field...), Baldelli, when healthy is a great producer. Scott Kazmir is one of the premire lefties in the league and with James Shields' apparent emergence as a great starter, it's the Devil Rays who will be the team to watch in years to come.

the D-Rays are good, but I'd say the D-backs are better. The D-backs already have a good record this year at 36-26, in an ultracompetitive NL West. Brandon Webb is already an all-star along with Eric Byrnes, and Orlando hudson, then they have a great bullpen with valverde and brandon lyon(4-2 with a 2.36 ERA and tony pena who can throw very high 90's fastball) and all those hitters I mentioned plus Stephen Drew, alberto callaspo and conor jackson.

and those (Webb, Byrnes, Hudson) are all veterans. of course they're going to be good and seasoned. nothing to do w/potential

all of the young players you mentioned are batting well under .300 (save for Connor Jackson who has fallen off like crazy since a hot start) with little to no power and no other noticable production. Upton is hitting .320 and Dukes, while batting only .192 is hitting a home run every 17.2 ABs

let us also not forget about Carl Crawford (still just 25) who is also an All-Star

Mark reynolds is hitting way above .300, I didn't say they were doing amazing right now, but they are doing good. The D-Backs have a great chance of winning a WS in a couple of years, I just can't say the same for the D-Rays, Chris young and Carlos quintin are going to be great, Rocco baldelli is a good player but if he can't stay healthy than he is no help to them and if their players get in trouble with the law like threatening their family than I wouldn't want them on the team anyway.

if James Shields is for real and Kazmir keeps being Scott Kazmir, all the Rays will need is to add one more pitcher. Upton is for real and Delmon Young will fulfill his potential and become a great player in a few years. Elijah Dukes is a crazy**** but if he straightens himself out off the field and focuses on the field, he'll become a great power hitter. if Tampa can keep this young talent and add one more pitcher, they'll be on their way to contend in the AL East.

Devil Rays, great young pitchers in Shields, Kazmir. Then Dukes, Young, Upton, and Harris. Extremely talented young guns.

June 10, 2007  12:56 AM ET

But the AL east will always have Boston and NY.

June 10, 2007  12:57 AM ET

The D-Backs will actually retain their players and be able to sign them once they get good. The D-Rays just bring young players along for other teams.

June 10, 2007  01:00 AM ET

anyone else find it slightly amusing that Mac used "guns" after describing Dukes?

/going straight to hell.

June 10, 2007  01:08 AM ET

The Devil Rays have nobody other than Al Reyes who you can seriously call a veteran. They have no experience, and so while their talent level is high, their potential is not quite as high. I don't think they can retain all those players anyway come contract time.

Also, the NL West is a toss-up each year and can be won by a multitude of teams, making it much easier for the D-Backs to win there than the DRAys to conquer the Red Sox and Yankees, much less the rest of the American League.

I agree

June 10, 2007  01:20 AM ET

Dude...you waited for the second argument to mention Crawford?

I'd have come out with that gun blazing....

June 10, 2007  01:22 AM ET

yeah, i think i forgot about him 'cause it seems like he's been in the league forever.

June 10, 2007  01:23 AM ET

Is this argument for who is better now or for who will be better in 5 years? I can't really tell from your arguments.

June 10, 2007  01:24 AM ET

well i geuss in the future, It is what team has the most potential.

June 10, 2007  01:34 AM ET

It depends on what the budget looks like for the Devil Rays in the near future. If they can hold onto these stars while at the same time repairing their damaged pitching staff/bullpen, they definately have more potential that Arizona. I can't see how that would happen, though, unless the team was sold to Boss Steinbrenner.

^This is what I think about the Devil Rays if anyone cares.

June 10, 2007  03:17 AM ET

both have pretty good potential, but i would have to give it to the d-rays.

June 10, 2007  12:22 PM ET

carl crawford will be the best outfielder in the league within 5 years

June 10, 2007  12:54 PM ET

Brandon Webb is hardly a veteran, he's only 28 years old.

June 10, 2007  01:15 PM ET

No I would say Grady Sizemore will be the best outfieder in the next 5 years.

June 10, 2007  01:17 PM ET

word. i'll second that.

June 10, 2007  01:33 PM ET

you're an idiot if you think Brandon Webb is hardly a veteran because of his age. he is in his 5th full year as a starter - he is clearly a veteran.

June 10, 2007  03:25 PM ET

Is 5 years a veteran player now? Pssh, maybe in your eyes, but that doesn't make much sense to me. Veteran: a person who has had long service or experience in an occupation, office, or the like. Now, maybe to you, 5 years is a long time, but that just doesn't fly for me, especially in baseball. Barry Bonds is a veteran, Roger Clemens is a veteran, Randy Johnson is a veteran, Brandon Webb is not.

By the way, it's not nice to call people idiots.
