Al Davis and the rest of the FO in Oakland are running the Raiders into the ground.

What the hell?? Why would you sign a DT with a bum leg to a $50 Million dollar contract?

Wait..... Thats after signing your 1st round draft pick to a deal worth over $30 Million. Now they have ANOTHER top 5 draft pick who will want similar money after watching Russel get his way by sitting out and acting like the world owes him somthing. Could the Raiders even afford a player like Mcfadden now???

Here's the bottom line....All this money that he is tying up is stupid. What team could he trade these players to with that kind of contract....??? He couldnt cut them in a few years cause he would take a serious hit in cap vioaltons. Da Radiers will be screwd for the next 5-8 years.....

I'm most likely going to get clobbered and diddlypaddled on this one but I couldn't let it just sit there.

I agree that the Raiders are screwed for the next few seasons, but the next 5-8 is a little much. I mean right now is a dark time for Raiders fans, what with the Raider's playing worse than the Pop Warner 3rd place team, the fact that Al Davis is still alive and having to deal with a cheerleaging team called the "Raiderettes".

Just these facts alone would be enough for me toexchange my pointy shoulder pads and and black face paint for "real people" things, yet Raider fans stay strong.

They have reason to.

First of all, these early draft picks they've accumulated year after year are beginning to pile up like fruit cakes on Christmas, except, unlike fruit cakes, they're getting better over time. Michael Huff, Fabian Washington, Nnamdani Asomugha and Robert Gallery are gaining more experience and should improve even more this season.
Jamarcus Russel was extremely costly, but what else could the Raiders do? They needed a QB. That's all he would play for. Couldn't waste a #1 draft pick only for him to never sign. He'll get more games/ experience in this year.
no room

" Michael Huff, Fabian Washington, Nnamdani Asomugha and Robert Gallery are gaining more experience and should improve even more this season"

I'll give you Huff, Washington and Asomugha....But Gallery?? Cmon now. I know you gotta make the best argument you can, but you dont have to lie to do it....lol...j/k

Here's the problem though.....They have very limited cap space to work with now. They also have a top 5 draft pick, who is gonna expect top 5 draft pick kinda contract. After watching Russel sit out part of last season until he got what he wanted, I would expect whom ever they draft is gonna want money in the $20-$25 million range.

Lets look at a few players on thier roster.....

Jamarcus Russel - $60 million dollar contract with $31 Million garrunteed. It would be pretty hard to trade this kind of contract.

Javon Walker - $30 Million for a malcontent, injury prone WR. Wait, didnt they have that in Joey Porter??

Tommy Kelly - $50 million over 7 years for a DT who played 7 games in 07 and racked up 3 tackles and 1 sack.

The Raiders are paying all the wrong people. The should be paying Burgess, Washington and Huff this kind of money, not unproven NOBODY'S

I agree with you 100% on the fact that they are wasting their money on those players.

Jamarcus Russel- I really don't blame the Raiders for signing him to such a big contract. If they were to let him to, refusing to pay him $60 mill and he went out to another team and became a star, the Raiders would have looked like the dumbest team ever. They couldn't just waste a first round #1 overall pick like that. It's a lot of money, too much in fact, but he's a benefit to the team.

Javon Walker- He's a great WR... when he's healthy. Only problem is that he's not healthy often. He's still an upgrade for the team, and if he stays healthy he could be a huge benefit to the team.

Tommy Kelly- Like Walker, he's good when he's healthy, and he wasn't healthy last year.

Injuries were a big part of this team last year. Look for some of these money gobblers to be back healthy this season, where they can start playing for their money's worth... almost.

When these guys are healthy the team will benefit, and if they're all healthy next year the team will improve.

They'll still be bad, but they're slowly digging themselves out of that hole.

And it won't take 5-8 years to get out.

Forfeited Turn

Woah, didn't see that comin.

Alright well I haven't shifted my opinion at all since my last arguement.

I agree that they've screwed themselves over for the next few seasons or so and that it's time for Good ol' Al to call it a career, but I don't think they'll be this bad for another 5-8 years.

They've got a lot of promising young players who are gaining experience and are getting better each season, and I think in maybe 3-4 more years, they may possibly dig themselves out of the hole completely.

Some things will need to change, but it's defidently possible and the Raiders are defidently on the right course.

SOrrry I am not going to argue this I just wanted to say one thing. WELL YEAH!!!!! they have one of the worst front offices of all time I can't even come up with and argument for this.

He's right for the most part, but I wanted to try and argue this

Commish, you used the wrong phrasing there. You said, "Al Davis and the rest of the FO in Oakland are running the Raiders into the ground."

What you should have said is, "Al Davis and the rest of the FO in Oakland HAVE RUN the Raiders into the ground". There we go. Doesn't that sound better?

the radas are fine. they will be fine...*if we belive we can do it!!*

Report Offensive Comment

I think that Al Davis is KEEPING the Raiders from winning by his decisions. He needs to realize that he is no longer the football genuis he once was.

Report Offensive Comment

defidently hindering them, but I can think of one or two worse GM's out there, so it could be worse. I agree with WIllis tho. I think it's time for Davis to finally step down. We all know his best years are long gone.

Let them trade the pick to the cowboys for 2 first round picks (dallas' and their one in 2009 and roy williams

Report Offensive Comment

i must say they need to go back to the old days where they take all the riff-raff of the league at least they were winning then.

I agree that 5 to 8 years is a stretch, but they absolutely blew free agency this year. I'm not shocked but definitely appalled. The only owner in professional sports who rivals this blind ignorance is Jim Dolan of the Knicks. At least the Marlins owners field a horrible team on purpose.

Report Offensive Comment

I'm not sure 5-8 years is such a stretch. The 49-er's are still paying for salary cap mismanagement dating back to the 90's. And it's quickly beginning to show with the Redskins as well.

raiders suck. al davis is a dinosaur.

This actually. Apparently the 49ers are still paying Steve Young and Jerry Rice.

I just noticed a mistake that might confuse you guys...

At the beginning of my 2nd arguement, I meant to say "I agree with you 100% that they are wasting TOO MUCH money on those players."

Hope that clears things up a bit

this team isn't ok. they paid a bum DT 50 million, a QB that has been a well green kid and did not impress me at college level, Huff is being moved a position to FS and still are paying him decent amount of money. the good thing i see here is that they HAVE A RB Fargas is good enough to work. They need a DT or linemen for the Oline because the line they have still stinks though not as bad as the texans. Sederick ellis is probably going to miami who uses the 3-4. Dorsey is an option but the Rams need a DT also. so they are stuck. i honestly think Jerry jones can pull a bunny out and trade the 28th pick, a first rounder in 09, and roy williams (since he can't play coverage anyway). Cowboys need the pick more than Senile Davis does.

Stauff - Goodell isn't on fannation on the weekends, that is the reason for his forfeitted turn.

Report Offensive Comment

I agree with Goodell on this one - the Raiders are spending a ton of money on the wrong people and it will hurt them for a long time (salary cap wise).

Very good arguments by Stauff, it was very very close.
