the yankees wont make the playoffs...one reason is there bullpin pitching just isent good enough...rivera there best bullpin pitcher has blown 2 saves a 4.13 ERA

while i'm not overly confident in their playoff chances yet, they are only 5.5 games out of the wildcard spot with over 100 games to play. that's not a lot of ground to make up over that long a stretch. they've won 5 in a row with great pitchng and their slumping hitters, Damon, Abreu, and Cano are finally starting to come around.
doug18 said 06/10, 03:46 PM
but there not hitting the ball like they have in past years when they won the east...there 4th in AVG 4th in SLG and 4th in OPS....
thejetstolehome: hiatus? said 06/10, 03:54 PM
not hitting like they used to? are you kidding? 3rd in the majors in runs, rbis, OBP. and you just argued that being 4th in the majors in slg/ops is a bad thing. anyway, if you want to make that argument i'll go with it and say that they've been hitting that "well" with Cano, Damon, Abreu, and Giambi all slumping and with Doug Mientkevicz in the lineup who couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag. Giambi and Douggie are out for a bit but w/o them, Damon, Abreu, and Cano have been mashing and Melky is picking it up as well. so now, they'll climb up even higher than top five in those offensive categories. Pettitte has been pitching well all year (no run support) and Wang is picking it up now. this will allieviate the bullpen and give them a chance to climb out of their hole. like i said, they're only 5.5 out w/over 100 to play. i like those numbers
doug18 said 06/10, 04:01 PM
there pitching still isent good enough to get them to the playoffs...a 4.55 team ERA?not good....not to mention oppents are hitting .264 off them...cant forget the .760 OPS.
thejetstolehome: hiatus? said 06/10, 04:06 PM
yes the pitching is a weak spot but it is starting to improve and will now have a rotation that won't be screwed around with due to the addition of Clemens. also, Chris Britton is finally on the ML roster which will take pressure off of Farnsworthless, Vizcaino (waste of a roster spot), and Joe's favorite, Scotty P. am i 100% confident that they'll make it? no. do i think they definitely can as tehy're only 5.5 out with over 100 to go which is not a lot of ground for a team this talented to make up.

Yankees are what? 5 games out of the wildcard? they went from 13.5 games out last week to 10.5. They are starting to turns things around, Mo always struggle in the beginning but he seems to be calming down, he did great a few days ago pitching 2 innings, not only am i confident the yankees will make the playoffs but im goona say they win the division. Lately they have been playing great baseball

While it is unlikely that the Yanks will catch the Sox, I would be surprised if they don't make the Wild Card. They are far better than they played in April and early May, and everyone knows it.

Doug 18 is a clown. They won 95 games last year with a team ERA of 4.41. This year, they've got a 4.55 and used 10 starters by the 1st of May. Yeah, being 4th in the majors in avg, slg, and OPS is GREAT. And only allowing a .760 OPS as a pitching staff, good for 10th in the major leagues (there are 30 teams in MLB, something I'm not sure Doug 18 comprehends) is wonderful given their pitching woes due to injuries.
Maybe this dude should try understanding what stats mean next time.
What a clown. yet, somehow this argument is still close.
