Goodell: I want a TACO!!! said 03/10, 10:54 AM
He is done for in Seattle.....
Not only did they sign TJ Duckett , but they also signed Julius Jones. I dont remember who said it, but when Alexander runs the football, he looks like a 6-year old girl dancing in a tuplip field.
Not only did the bring in Jones and Duckett, but Mo Morris is returing as the teams top rusher for the past season. It will be a trade like the one for Moss. Not the production aspect, but whatever team gets him will get him for cheap. I dont know if its the "Post Contract" slump that alot of players fall into...or what. But he will not be a Seahawk on opening day

This is an absolute can't-lose throwdown, but I'm a gamer. Why not. Why didn't you include in the title that the sun will come out tomorrow? Bet your bottom dollar....
You have to examine a few things here. They will take a huge cap-hit if they trade him, I assume. In tying up alot of money in the running back position already for 2008, it will be interesting to see how including a cap hit in that figure will damage the overall financial landscape of the team.
What are the Seahawks asking for here? A low round pick, a la Moss? All this for a guy who was one of the premier running backs in the league just a couple of seasons ago? I guess teams have to figure out which Alexander they are trading for. The fairy boy runner he was last season or the talented back he was.
That said, this is my main rebuttal: With the success of lower-caliber players being successful at running back now, why would a team sacrifice a draft pick for a player with a crazy contract (restructured or not) that has lost his mojo? Couple that with the fact that they will tie up millions at the running back position trading him in the first place.
Oh well. This throwdown is funny.
Goodell: I want a TACO!!! said 03/10, 12:31 PM
I can name a few suitor's that may want Alexanders services.....
1) Washington - We all know that Danny Boy LOVES to overpay for big name players.
2) Detroit - With Matt Millen in the FO, anything is possible. Plus, Kevin Jones was NON-Existent last season. The have all the players at WR they need, now they need a RB that will post a threat. This way, team's wont be able to focus JUST on the WR's that Detroit has....
3) STL - They have no true back-up for SJax. They got Brian Leonard, but he is not the threat that Shaun is, or was....Which ever
Let me answer your question....."With the success of lower-caliber players being successful at running back now, why would a team sacrifice a draft pick for a player with a crazy contract (restructured or not) that has lost his mojo?"
Well, Miami signed BOTH Cullpepper and Trent Green.....Both had lost thier Mojo.... New England landed a WR that most thought was washed up. He was done for. While in Oakland, his stats were comparable to any 3rd or 4th WR on most teams depth chart.... maybe he needs this to get back to old form.... Remeber what Randall Cunningham did in Minny after he was "washed up" ?

Before you accuse me of stealing arguments from the comments below...I'll try and get this in fast.
The idea of Alexander as a back-up makes little sense. Even though Randy Moss was brought in as a project - he was slotted to be one of Brady's main targets. It was never a doubt about his ability. It was whether he could stay focused.
Alexander won't be ripping up his contract to make $1 million this season and let the rest come up in incentives. If he goes to be a backup, those incentives are useless. Very different from the Moss deal.
Now to those teams:
Washington: Portis & Alexander on the same team? I can't see that being possible, whether Snyder is a spender or not.
Detroit: Jones was non-existent for a reason last season. Wasnt he hurt? I don't even think Lions ownership wants Millen doing anything this crazy.
STL: Jackson is considered a top-10 back. Leonard is sufficient as a backup. You want to bring in Alexander, who will be making alot of money?
Last point: Green/Culpepper was a failure. Moss, as I explained above, was a no-brainer. His problem wasnt ability. If he played hard his whole career he is a HOF'er. Alexander? Not so much.
Goodell: I want a TACO!!! said 03/10, 01:07 PM
For starters, I wasnt gonna accuse you of anything... So if you got a guilty conscience, there is little I can do for ya.
Houston - They need a RB...Ahman Green, Daruis Walker, and Chris Taylor on thier depth chart. None of these players scream franchise back. Ahman Green is a washed up back whose best day's ended at the turn of the Century. Darius Walker is one more fumble away from a career in the CFL and Ive never even heard of Chris Taylor. The Texans have a decent O-line with a promising WR core and defense.... A true threat on the ground may actually bring the Texans into playoff contention. Sure they are in the AFC south with the Colts, Titans and Jags....But these teams will beat each other up so much during the regular season that the Texans may be able to sneak into second place in the South. Dont start rebutaling the seeding of the AFC south......
You say that Moss's problem was never his ability.......Well, nor is that Alexanders problem. He has all the ability you would want in a RB.....And he has the NFL MVP trophy to prove it...He had the TD record to prove it as well....
Im willing to bet the Texans would give up a 3rd or 4th to get Alexander
Moondizzle... said 03/10, 01:35 PM
No guilty conscience here.
The Texans are an intriguing destination, but there are several road blocks there. Ahman Green is not reliable, but he has been rehabbing like a madman and Kubiak liked how he fit in that system. They also have their sights set on Warrick Dunn, who at 33 years old is a quick, agile runner who doesn't often get hurt. If you want to talk about a tough AFC South, you want guys with passion who stay healthy, right? Not in Alexander's bag of tricks, exactly.
What I meant about Moss his what he can do. Alexander HAD all the ability, yes. But when focused, Moss is the best receiver in football. He has the best hands, and had he not been stupid in his youth, we would possibly be talking about the best receiver of all time. Alexander, despite his great year and the since broken td-record, does not have anything special that teams can not get from younger, cheaper models. Moss's hands, speed, and size are rare.
If they gave up a 3rd or 4th rounder and took on that kind of money when they can bring in Dunn on the cheap, they'd be silly. Keep in mind Kubiak's offenses have churned out successful running backs like factories. Why obtain Alexander?

Wow. Didn't think you would get any takers on this one Goodell. But someone had the cajones to do it. I'm pretty sure the signings of Duckett and Jones pretty much pushes Alexander out the door. To where, I don't know. I wouldn't want him on my team.

This one sat out there for a long time. I kept debating whether or not to take it.
will wait for more arguments.
Wow Moon! I guess you can be serious when you want to be.

Interesting. Going the legitimate argument route, Moon? Good start. I certainly agree that any team that trades for Alexander is foolish if they give up more than a late draft pick.

Yea guys I mix it up occasionally. Today I felt like going the serious route. What better way to do that than to pick an impossible throwdown.

1. With Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts, no one is dumb enough to waste money on a far inferior back than their back-up.
2. Kevin Jones wasn't a non-factor because he was getting stuffed, many games he would get less than 10 carries. EVERY game Jones got over 20 carries the Lions won. Yeah, that was a stupid mention too.
3. Leonard proved to be better than Alexander last year. No team would trade for a big name with a big contract as a back up.
If thats the best you've got, vote moondizzle.

You mentioned 3 teams that shouldn't even think about picking up a RB let alone a BIG contracted FAR past his prime Alexander.

Haha...Jenkster...thanks but try and hold back until I post my own rebuttal. You basically touched on the points I was making.
Goodell...as impossible a topic you picked this morning...someone took you up. As impossible it is for you to create more space for your argument, make like Moses and create more space.

Good arguments Moon. Shaun Alexander seems to be content with his career, and I don't see any team really taking a chance on him.

I'm not going to let my actual beliefs on the Alexander situation air out until this throwdown is over. I took it because it could be argued. Especially with the points Goodell made. Anyway, I have to make sure people know I'm not just a clown. I have brains.

What can I say? I like the serious Moon TDs, but I often reminisce about finding the golden "Knicks ftw!" TDs.
Nothing like sifting through a million bonehead "List" and "5 greatest QB/RB"TDs and finally finding someone who can successfully argue that Jared Lorenzen is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
