Who deserves the HOF more???

I say Carter deserves the HOF more then Monk. Im not saying that Monk isnt worthy, beacuse he is. But Carter's numbers are second only to Jerry Rice in almost every statistical catergory....Rice, Brown and Carter are arugaubly the 3 best WR's of all time. Granted Rice and Brown will both be 1st ballot HOFers, so why not Carter.....??

This is the NFL Hall of Fame......Not the NFL "Hall of Good Timing "

Is Art Monk a All time Great??? Yes.....
Is he reverd and respected by all fans??? Yes.....
Is he HOF worthy?? Yes....
Is he MORE worthy then Carter???? NOPE

Ok, I'll fall on the sword. One thing to consider is that Monk played on a Redskins team that really didn't feature one receiver, Monk was part of the Posse featuring himself, Gary Clark and Ricky Sanders. The ball was spread around a lot maybe accounting for Monk not having some of the stats attained by Carter. And let us not forget that Monk has 3 Super Bowl rings, to Carter's zero.

What?? Ricky Sanders???

Are you talking about the Ricky Sanders who never went to a PB or made a AP team??? The same Ricky Sanders who 37 career TD's??? The same Ricky Sanders who only has 1 career season with 6 or more TD's in a season??

Ricky Sanders = Don Beebe

I can see Clark as a threat at the WR spot. But no way is Sanders.....There are teams that had multiple WR's at the same time who will or are in the HOF......James Lofton never took away from Andre Reed's production....Reed still managed to put up top 10 REC numbers right next to the best WR at the time....Rice is the best ever, but Lofton was the Best ever for a few years...

Dont you think since Carter was the only WR on his team for the majority of his career that teams would be able to key in on him more? I would....He had most of his stats before Moss showed up...

Monk is HOF worthy....He's just not more worthy then Carter

Hey don't dis Sanders, remember SB XXII? Sanders, 9 catches, 193 yards, 2 touchdowns, the 193 yards was a SB record. Hell, the Posse became the first trio of wide receivers to go over 1000 yards each (1989) season in NFL history. Carter had to be "the guy" in Minnesota because they had nothing else as demonstrated by their dismal performance in the playoffs while Carter was with them. And even when Moss showed up forming what was the most dangerous receiving duo in the NFL the Vikes (a 13.5 point favoirite) losy to the Falcons in the NFC championship game. My point is that Monk made people around him better, and the team was more consistent.

"My point is that Monk made people around him better, and the team was more consistent"

I believe that Joe Gibbs is the one who made people around him better and the team more consistent. I have nothing agianst Monk at all.... I think he is HOF worthy....Just not as worthy as the guy who is second all time in damn near everything

The main reason the Skins won 3 SB's with different QB's is a direct result of the play of the guys up front. The Hogs are the ones to credit for the accolades the Skins achieved in the 80's and early 90's. Monk was a monster.....

The reason I made the TD was to point out there are serious problems with the way HOF voting is conducted. Just cause you feel bad for a guy and want to see him in the HOF, you should not forget about the 2nd best WR in NFL history. They cast him by the wayside......Now Brown and Rice are up the next 2 seasons and Im willing to bet the both get in on first ballots....So why not Carter???

Remember that before he went to Minnesota, Carter was the original WR head case, although the Vikes picking up for a mere $100 of the waiver was awesome. Does he deserve a place in the Hall, probably. is he paying the price for earlier career problems, probably. Is he more deserving than Monk simply because of his statistical superiority, I don't think so. It would be nice if statistics counted for everything in Hall consideration, but they don't. Monk in my opinion presents a more compelling pick because of his overall body of work and the success of the teams that he played for in his career.

Well he went for the easy win before and I (pending the end results) successfully argued against it. I was going to take this one too actually. Monk has arguments in his favor.

March 10, 2008  02:53 PM ET

A to the G...Monk made the HOF and Carter didn't. That's reason enough to start a TD.

March 10, 2008  02:53 PM ET

Moondizzle, you're such a hero.

March 10, 2008  02:54 PM ET

Wow, Cris Carter, the popular choice for the second best WR of all time and some people will even go as far as saying he is better than Rice is better than Art Monk? Never would've guessed.

Hey Goodell, wanna TD? I say that LaDanian Tomlinson is better than Cedric Benson.

March 10, 2008  02:56 PM ET

Did I say Carter was better then Monk??? NO

I said Carter was more HOF worthy......

March 10, 2008  02:57 PM ET

I sure as hell dont see any of you starting TD's today......

You want some...Come get some and challenge me. You pick the topic anything NFL.

March 10, 2008  02:58 PM ET

Explain to me the difference.

Isn't the better player usually more HOF worthy? Monk made it because of the huge spectacle being made of him being the biggest snub of all time. People's votes were swayed to him because of him being snubbed for so long.

March 10, 2008  02:58 PM ET

It looks like I always go for the Easy wins....Dont it...?

A Bills fan with 250+ losses......Really looking for the easy ones huh??

March 10, 2008  02:59 PM ET

Challenge me then.......

You aint goin out of your way to make the TD's today... So dont **** about the ones I make

It's a slow day. I welcome any and all topics at this point. I was very close to arguing this, and I think I could have done so very effectively. I won't list my arguments because this is between Stern and Goodell, though. There's more to being a great player than numbers.

March 10, 2008  03:03 PM ET

Lifer I was just making a point. I don't think I'm good or anything. Just stating the obvious...that Goodell can be argued despite easy throwdown topics.

March 10, 2008  03:04 PM ET

Ricky Sanders was a great option in Tecmo Bowl. You could trade anyone for him, and he was more than serviceable.

March 10, 2008  03:08 PM ET

Also, Sanders waa once arrested for trying to run down a parking lot attendant, i hate those guys, Goooooo Ricky!

ANYONE can be argued based on what is considered an "easy" argument. They vote against the creator, whom they believe is going for an easy win, whether they are or not is not the issue.

March 10, 2008  03:10 PM ET

Monk = 3 rings with 3 different QBs !!

March 10, 2008  03:10 PM ET

I'll say this the TD topic. I think both guys are 100% deserving of being in the Hall. Therefore, neither is more worthy than the other.
