You pretty much took all the best players but a good case can be made for the following, my changes are,
2B-Brian Roberts(1) 50 steals, 42 doubles, 89 walks, 180 hits Perfect leadoff man! Phillips had a great year, but Roberts has PROVEN his worth.
SS-Jeter had over 200 hits for the third straight year!(2) Has leadership skills, and proven to show up in the playoffs(usually).
RF-Randy Winn(2) Hit .300 in spacious AT&T Park! 42 doubles, 14 hr, 15 steals...Good stats for the NL West with really good pitchers and huge ballparks....
CF-B.J Upton(2) 129 games in 2007, he had 25 doubles, 24 hr, 22 steals, 82 rbi, hit .300, slugged over .500... Easily better than Hunter Pence! This kid will only get better, a real 40-40 threat when he is in his prime!
Bench: Tulo, Juan Pierre, Ryan Braun, Bengie Molina, Pat Burrell, Drew, Jeff Clement, Feliz, (I know it doesn't count, but just wanted to mention the players i considered...)

Well Willis, thank you for mentioning those that didnt quite make your cut. It's unfortunate you didn't have room for no-names like Jose Reyes, Ryan Howard, Eric Chavez and Alex Gordon. There's just no room for those guys with superstars like Bengie Molina, Randy Winn and an unspecified member of the Drew family on your squad.
Anyway, Roberts has proven his worth? Oh, you mean Brian Roberts? The steroid freak from Baltimore? Right, well besides being on the wrong side of 30, Phillips hit 30 HOME RUNS last season! He drove in 94 while stealing 32 bases. To whoever commented that Roberts is WAY better, take a look at some numbers sometime.
Jeter, another player thats aging, has unquestionable leadership skills. That, however, does not account for the fact that Ramirez hits more home runs, steals more bases, hits for a higher average, scores and drives in more runs. AND is a far superior fielder. Since were counting off the field situations, lets mention Jeter's cool $20mil hes making this season and give it to Hanley in a landslide.
Upton and Pence are close, Randy Winn must have been a typo on your part buddy.
Cain-Willis. In & Out... said 03/14, 12:10 AM
Any infant can list the best players and say, "they are the best." I just found some pretty darn good substitutes, and might i say, a few are better than yours? hmm...
1) Roberts vs Phillips. Phillips could have had a fluke year...
Roberts stole more bases(50), and was caught less than Phillips
Roberts also had a higher batting average in 2007, as well as a higher CAREER batting average..
Phillips has a career OBP of .306!! Roberts is .351
Phillips grounded into 26 double plays in '07. Roberts only 8!
2) Randy Winn can play all the OF spots. He has gap power, and is good for 40+ doubles and hits about .300 with a .345+ obp...
3) Jeter is clutch. I want my team to win a WS not play in obscurity. Jeter draw fans, and attention to my team. Ticket sales go up, i get tv deals, grade A sponsers, other free agents want to come to my team(including pitchers) I don't see a SS who is good for 200+ hits and great PR any thing to scoff at. And for me, $$ is not a big deal. I am rich.:-)
4)Upton is totally better than Pence. I'll say more about that in my last argument..
More to come...stay tuned!
NYY lifer SF49 said 03/14, 11:18 AM
Winn has hit .300 twice in his 11-year career. Winn has hit 40 doubles in one of his last five seasons. How this makes him "good" for either of those stats, i'd like for you to please explain. "Winn can play all the OF spots." Great. I can play all the OF spots, and at this point, probably not much worse than Randy can.
"Jeter draws fans." Well a lineup consisting of Matt Holliday, Albert Pujols, Hanley Ramirez and David Wright will probably "draw fans" as well. Ticket sales will go up, this is your argument? Your going to get tv deals? The TD is about the better team, your going to the extent of getting imaginary tv deals and selling imaginary tickets with imaginary sponsors. Free agents are coming to your team because Derek Jeter plays there? Keep in mind, the stipulation states that a player must have a SINGLE DIGIT NUMBER. Find any great free agent pitchers out there with single digit numbers? Yea, me neither.
"upton is totally better than Pence" Wow. Very convincing.
Cain-Willis. In & Out... said 03/14, 12:51 PM
Congrats, you pick first and all you do is ridicule the replacements? wow! VERY strong!
1) Winn has better range, better fielding%(.991), than Francouer(.977)! Only three NL OF played 100 games in RF and had WORSE range than Jeff.
Winn has hit .300 or better 2 of the last 3 seasons...
2) Upton has better range than Pence, as well as a higher fld%. Upton is about 2 years younger..
3) You are a liar. Winn had 47 doubles in 05, 34 in 06, 42 in 07. Please don't lie anymore, ok?
4)Pence was injured last year. His ligament actually tore off part of the bone in his wrist. Will it happen again? Is he injury prone?
H. Ramirez also has a surgically repaired shoulder, worked on last fall.
5) As far as team defense, I am better at 2B, CF, and RF. At SS, Ramirez had 24 errors last year.(26 in 06) Jeter had 18 last year. Jeter has a higher fld% too. So don't say Ramirez is a far superior fielder...
I have a better team this year, as well as the future. Experience is valuable. My team is veteran, yet not old. We field better, and have fewer ?? about health.
