The top 10 Starting Pitchers who've pitched at least 3 full seasons since 1994 Baseball Strike year (Sorry, Nolan Ryan, et al)

In order, please. List 1st, argue 2 and 3.

1. Greg Maddux
2. Roger Clemens
3. Randy Johnson
4. Tom Glavine
5. Pedro Martinez
6. John Smoltz
7. Mike Mussina
8. Curt Schilling
9. Andy Pettitte
10. Johan Santana

1. Clemens(once we reach a definitive answer to his hgh use, it might change, but for now, #1)
2. Maddux
3. Pedro(sick low era, he and Maddux were real artists)
4. Johnson(one of the most feared ever!)
5. Glavine(3.51 career era, good, not greater than ^)
6. Smoltz(can't consider his sv's)
7. Schilling
8. Johan(sure, Pettite and Mussina have more wins, but when it's all said and done, Santana is better) 2 Cy's in 4 years as only a starter...
9. Mussina
10. Peavy. Won the pitchng triple crown in 2007. Other's who have done that are Mathewson, Koufax, Gooden, Carlton, Randy Johnson, Grover Cleveland Alexander.

Pettite has only had his era under 3.00 twice, Peavy has done it 3 times already. Peavy

Pedro is 209-93 with a career 2.80 era. 3 cy's
Maddux 317-214 3.11 era, 4 cy's.
Clemens 354-184, 3.12 era, 7 cy's
Johnson 284-150 3.22 era, 5 cy's
Glavine 303-199, 3.51 era, 2 cy's
Smolt 207-145, 3.26 era, 1 cy.
Mussina, 3.70 career era...
Pettite 3.83 career era...
Schill, 3.46 career era, 216 wins...

I need to see more years from Johan to consider him ahead of Moose and Pettite. The way i see it, wins are the most important stat for a pitcher. and Johan doesn't have 100. Same goes for Peavy.

Pettitte also has 125 more career wins. You can't use the HGH against Pettitte, as those two years were his career worst. (more later, i have to go)

(I didn't use HGH against any of the pitchers for this td)

Wins are a very important stat, but some pitchers got a lot more run support. Look at Pettite and Mussina, they have pretty high era's for their win totals. If they had been on other teams would they have as many wins? No. Peavy and Johan don't have more wins because they haven't pitched very long. This isn't a list of the winningest pitchers in order, that would accomplish nothing! Sure the older pitchers have more wins, they've played longer.

Why do you have Glavine over Pedro? Just because of the total wins? Pedro has a lower era, a higher winning %, and one more Cy young award! He is the only one on the entire list with a CAREER ERA under 3.00!! That is astonishing considering modern hitters and the home run surge!!

The pitchers with more experience have had greater CAREERS, not greater 4 year stretches. Right now, those two pitchers are in their prime. Let me see Johan rebound from an "off year" in a big way, and show me that Peavy can be have 2 straight great seasons. Until then, Peavy's a no-show, and Johan just makes ten.

Glavine was one of the most consistant starters in the past 20 years. Pedro's been hurt and had offseasons as well. glavine is generally considered an ace-type pitcher, even into his 40's.

Well, the TD title is 'top starting pitchers'. You can't ignore Johan and Peavy just because they haven't played as long. The only player you have that i don't is Pettite. Pettite has won 20 games twice. With an era of 3.87 and 4.02. His career era is 3.83 Obviously, he just got run support in those years that helped him to win 20 games despite having an "off" year. An arguments could be made that much of Andy's success is because he had a good offensive team much of his career.

Pedro has been hurt, true, but you can't hold that against him. He is 209-93 with a 2.80 era. Glavine is 303-199 3.51. Only 3 times in Glavine's 21 years, has he had a lower era than Pedro's CAREER era!!! No bueno.

Peavy has already had to great seasons. He would easily have had 20+ wins in '04 and '05 if the Padres had any kind of an offense! It's not his fault they can't score. Don't hold that against him.

So who had the best years SINCE 1994? Or their entire career stats, as long as they pitched in 1995 or after?

Report Offensive Comment

Entire careers, assuming they pitched in 1995.

Report Offensive Comment

Pedro should be top 3.

Report Offensive Comment

Pedro should be top 1.

Sorry about the wait. Trying to do a little research...

Report Offensive Comment

Santana actually won the Major League Triple Crown...to go along with the AL Triple Crown...

Report Offensive Comment

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! But interestingly enough, it was the highest era since 1984 and good ol' Amie Rusie, for a pitcher that won the triple crown, 2.77! (not bad though)

Report Offensive Comment
