Well, I take it since you didn't talk about much in your first argument that we are talking about the top 5 CURRENT 3B.
In that case my list would be
1. A-Rod (can't really argue that)
2. David Wright (.325 30 HR 107 RBI 34 SB)
3. Chipper Jones (.337 29 HR 102 RBI)
4. Miguel Cabrera (.320 34 HR 119 RBI)
5. Mike Lowell (.324 21 HR 120 RBI, WS MVP)
Ny - Ready For Change said 03/16, 09:38 AM
So our differnces are Ramirez and Atkins or Lowell Jones
Now lets compair
Ramirez- 310 AVG 26 HR 101 RBI
Jones- .337AVG 29 HR 102 RBI
Ramirez put up great numbers last year and this year they will be even better.I mean Jones is getting older so theres almost no way that hes going to match his .337 average and 28 homeruns unless hes on the stuff*.Plus Rameriz still hasent reached his full potential so he will hit over 30 homeruns, and have over 115 RBI's.In the end Rameriz is younger and is a better third baseman.
Atkins- .301 AVG 25 HR 111 RBI 83 RUNS
Lowell- .324 AVG 21 HR 120 RBI 79 RUNS
The numbers are pretty much the same again, but like Jones Lowell wont have that great numbers again.I mean he plays in one of the toughest divisons and wont be helped by having to be the redsoxs everyday third baseman.Plus Atkins is a better fielder than Lowell and will benifit by playing in the far worse national league.
BSchwartz07 said 03/16, 11:23 AM
Ok, so your logic is that even though both of your guys didn't do as well as my guys they will OBVIOUSLY do better this year?
Remember this ISN'T "Who will be good in 5 years" or "Who will do better in 2008" this is WHO IS THE BEST CURRENTLY!
To your argument???
Ramirez turns 30 this year, he is no Spring Chicken. If you are waiting on him getting much better, well don't hold your breath on that one.
Also looking at the numbers-
Ramirez had 506 AB, & 157 Hits
Compare that to Chipper's 513 AB & 173 Hits. 16 more hits is a HUGE deal. Think about that if you break that down that's 5+ games where Chipper gives you 3 hits and Ramirez gives you ZERO!
On to the other two.
Are we forgetting that Lowell just won the WORLD SERIES MVP?!
Saying that Atkins is a better fielder is a bit of a stretch, seeing as Atkins Fielding % was .963, compared to Lowell's .961. Not a huge difference.
Add to that Lowell had 9 more hits than Atkins in 16 LESS at bats!
Then you want to say that Lowell can't hit in Boston's line up? WHAT?!?!? He JUST SHOWED THAT LAST YEAR! MVP of the World Series Shows that not only can he hit in that lineup, but he can LEAD that lineup.

I really would have liked to see your argument here. At this point you have even admitted that my guys have done better. If you get a chance to check in before this is done post what you have in the comments or something.
I really have nothing left to argue since I have nothing to argue against.

Report Offensive CommentElway, Miguel isn't the best fielder in the world, Chipper was 2nd in Gold Glove voting last year, so for that and a batting average 17 points higher I picked Chipper over Miguel

Report Offensive CommentI don't think Chipper will duplicate his year of 07. Lowell puts up monster stats in the Boston lineup. Atkins would too.
I'll wait to vote, but leaning --->

Report Offensive CommentI don't think Cabrera will stop eating 12 meals a day, so how do you know he will duplicate his season. Chipper is a vet and will be just fine again if healthy. How can you assume he is on the decline after a year like that.

You disagree with all of BS's difference's yet are still leaning towards him with out arguements.
That is why records mean squat.

Lowell is there, at #5.
Vote goes to the left for including Ramirez, who is great with both the bat and defense.

He hasn't made an argument. I haven't voted. Don't get your panties in a wad!
There is a great argument for ----> that he hasn't put up yet. I know a TON about this topic. Ok?

Report Offensive CommentAramis Ramirez is not that great of a fielder. Don't know where you got the good part from cubs/bears. As I'm sure BS remembers, I recall an extra inning game against the Braves where he allowed the winning run to score as an easy pop-fly landed on his head. He's a decent hitter I'll give you that, but he's at his peak as far as hitting goes.
Cabrera is also a poor fielder. Props to BS for marking him a bit lower because of that.
Vote to BS. Better list, better argument.

Report Offensive CommentI just got owned,my fault, great arguments BS i really cant argue much but Raneriz is still a good fielder no matter what Lilwound says
