Sal Palantonio or however you spell it has no right to attack Favre.

I am not a huge Brett Favre fan but he has had a long and great career. For all the interceptions and bad plays he has had he has made up for them. he is an exciting player to watch.

Sal can't make any remarks about him. Brett Favre played i think 17 seasons of football.... how many has Sal played?

Sal (I'm not even going to attempt to try and spell his last name) is a well respected sports reporter, and no matter what he thinks of Brett Favre, and no matter how much guys like you will hold a grudge against him for it, he can say it if he wants.

Not everybody on tv just goes with what the whole public thinks about one thing. He has a right to an opinion, but you say he shouldn't say that cus he's wrong? So it's wrong to be wrong about something?

Sorry but it's perfectly OK for him to say whatever (well not whatever but you get my point) he wants about Brett Favre. It's called "Freedom of Speech", buddy. Maybe you've heard of it.

No matter how wrong he may be, he's defidently allowed an opinion.

I never said he is wrong, but i don't think he should just out of the blue attack an amazing football player. He has the right to say whatever he wants, but Brett Favre is a legendendary football player, why can't Sal Pjklsbdblhgbd just keep his mouth shut?

The TD is that he shouldn't have attacked Favre with this, not really attack him but just out of the blue start taking away his thunder. he just retired and he finished a great career with many records..... overrated???

Sal thinks that "the last decade of his career was pedestrian". what is that supposed to mean. He played so many games in a row through injuries and anything he would play no matter what. Then some sports writer, right after he retires comes and starts saying that he is overrated and that the end of his career was a "pedestrian" that is just wrong. People rank him among the best of the best and to come out dissing like that is wrong.

Yeah, and al you guys saying down there that he can't make remarks about Favre, i never said that.... i said that basically Favre's career is over so why start going after him now.

Cus it's his job to voice his opinion. Obviously he's going to write about Brett Favre, since he is mainly an NFL reporter for the most part and the retirement of Favre is the biggest moment of this offseason pre-draft. What do you suggest? That he just avoid it?

No he has to write something, and he actaully backed up his opinions with stats. This guy wasn't just talking out of his ass. He mighta even been onto something.

Frankly I think the fact that people go bananas every single time a writer says anything EVEN SLIGHTY NEGATIVE about Brett Favre is ridiculous. If Rex Grossman had thrown that pick in the game against the Giants, wouldn't the American public have crucified his dignity by now? But noooo, not Brett Favre. He's the Messiah! Psh...

And just because Sal said this doesn't mean everythings going to change! Favre is still a first-ballot HOFer who had a great career. The only thing that's changed now is that Sal will never be able to enter the state of Wisconsin again.

Writers critisize players all the time! Just cus Sal is one of the few who has the cahones to critisize Favre doesn't mean its wrong and he should "keep his mouth shut". Thats ridiculous.

Forfeited Turn

And now for the kill...

You presented me with a very good topic, Billie, but I have to ask you, would you be just as angry if Sal Pal had said this about ANY other athlete?

Your saying it's wrong to say that Favre had a bad 2nd half to his career (In other words, you think it's wrong to bad-mouth Brett Favre)

You can't (well, shouldn't) pick favorites like many people are with Brett Favre and say that it's wrong for Sal to say this when 20 minutes from now you won't yell cries of "INJUSTICE" when Woody Paige mentions something bad about Alex Rodriguez in his column tomorrow. (by the way, that was totally random, but if he does, someone let me know and I will go nuts)

Sounds to me like your just saying this isn't right just because Brett Favre, a legend and future HOFer, is at the recieving end of this BAM pancake.

You think Favre is the first HOFer to be critisized? No. But everyone throws up their arms when someone mentions an ounce of negative stats against the Dreaded One (as lovingly referred to by Bears fans)

And I'm not just talkin bout sports. It's neccesary to treat everyone equally (ie Favre after an INT vs Rexy after an INT)

Its Sals job. The End.

I agree Joe Armstrong. He shouldn't be attacking one of the greatest players ever to play the game.

Paolantonio can't make any bad statements about Favre. Right. Only positive ones, right?

You basically want to tell media heads to muzzle themselves when they go against the widely accepted perceptions of the rest of the media. I have the statistics to back up Paolantonio's remarks. Is he still wrong? Well because people can't be objective and get off Favre's jock, nothing anyone will say will get you off of it.

"Sal can't make any remarks about him. Brett Favre played i think 17 seasons of football.... how many has Sal played?"

Wow. So he can't make any remarks about David Carr either, right? Or about Joey Harrington? They played football too. Sorry Sal, you're not allowed to make negative statements about players. Ever.

This is his job. If he wasnt allowed to do his job, you would be more of a sheep than you already are.

I am a huge Favre fan and was a season ticket holder for many years before I moved. Where I think Sal is wrong and looking at the whole body of Favre's career wrong he can say what he wants. Its just one person's opinion. He either really believes it or understands that the timing will get him some traffic. Either way it doesn't matter. We have freedom of the press and I don't like any restriction on that. Sal doesn't need to have played in order to have an opinion. Imagine if we only had players writing articles. The requirements of their two jobs are very different and we can't say that one can only criticize if you have played. Again I disagree but there are worse things being printed and read by people that are much more important and worse than this.

Sal did not attack Favre. He wrote a very intriguing article and used facts and statistics to shed some light on a very popular player. He didn't make fun of him, he didn't say he was a bad player, he just spoke his mind. There's nothing wrong with that at all. Sal made a ton of good points that shouldn't be ignored. Vote right.

COMMUNIST? WHERE? LETS STRING HIM UP

So, Billie Joe, the only person that can say anything negative about Favre not only has to have played sports, but also must have played at least 17 years of sports? My logic mechanism just hit a fault.

Report Offensive Comment

Sal can't make remarks about Favre...really? I thought that was kind of his job.

Report Offensive Comment

sure he does...half of farves career has been average...

Report Offensive Comment

If you muzzle the sports guys and gals, then where would you get s subject for your throwdown?

Report Offensive Comment

Regardless of whether the stats are accurate, Favre is a great player and has been great for the sport of Football as a whole... Even if he wasn't "the best" he's one of them and Sal chose a tacky time to critique his career so shortly after he announced his retirement, the article is fine, but the timing is tacky.

Report Offensive Comment

Steveo was it "predestrian"?

Report Offensive Comment

not but when half his stats are HOF worthy and half are just average...someone then could argue either side of the ball...i don't think its ludacris....
